  1. Nailed it. For as long as some are let off the hook "because", they'll keep seeing head shots. And isn't the deal that they're trying to get rid of them? Won't be done this way because it leaves an in for those who disguise them as something else but conveniently get the head as well. And those who buy into it. It isn't rocket science. It's like teaching your dog to heel...."well, we'll let him stray because he's smelling the flowers". "And he's still close to my side and trying". No, you be consistent, tug on the leash, give the firm command and set the bar. Every time until it's firmly established. This back and forth and "well...." stuff won't get it done and just sends mixed messages. No one benefits in that, as it leads to uncertainty and confusion. Set a definitive line. Wishy washy is wishy washy.
  2. So stawns....say a guy is batting a puck down to keep it in the offensive zone and contacts the head....why is that different? Suspendable? Contacted the head while doing something else. It shouldn't be. Why the double set of rules here? Swatting at a puck is a hockey play...both players went for it. So if you contact the head during a hit, it's ok. But in batting a puck down, no? Why?
  3. But there are only so many times you can be inconsistent on the job before that needs to be assessed. Especially when related to "player safety"....very little margin for error there. And it's been 10 years of this nonsense in trying to figure it out. I think they get it wrong more than right. So it's a matter of opinion. And Burr, a player returning from injury, was hit in the head. Woops, didn't mean to hit the head when I hit him? So that's ok now? I hope every body check that connects with the head is viewed/treated that way. Be a damn good way to dish some payback. Because remember?...that's what happens when the league doesn't protect the players. Grudges are formed. Resentments are harbored. And payback becomes part of it. Been here, done this. So it's time to remember that you have to take care of all players or it can turn ugly fast.
  4. Oh boy, where to begin. You're jumbling stuff up and throwing red herrings in here. "Two wrongs don't make a right". Two wrongs are wrong. That's more suitable. There are consistency issues and because they've got it wrong in the past and continue to do so, people are upset over it. If they weren't calling similar plays and suspending players for much less (batting a puck out of the air), then there'd be no issue. The issue is that one fairly innocent play will have someone sit 3-5 games while a head shot by way of disguise gets nothing. Justified by the "Safety" team.
  5. It's ok, this league keeps playing with fire and they'll eventually get burned. They'll have another Bertuzzi/Moore incident and, eventually, they'll be called to task for running this gong show. You can only provide lip service for so long before you'll be called upon for accountability. This is how ol'Gentlemen's clubs work. They are untouchable and spew BS to mostly puff out their own egos and chests. We're the boss. But they lose any credibility if they don't get it right. You can only make excuses for so long before it's time to pay the piper. Karma'll visit. Someone will lay on the ice with a broken neck and then they'll scramble like rats in a garbage dump.
  6. I think what makes me angriest is their pathetic "reasoning". I almost wish they'd just say "it's Burr, therefore, no discipline to be issued". This string of BS and using one angle that sells their case....just makes it that much more nauseating. Like they think they've slid this past everyone. My God, it's worse than I thought.
  7. For my sake, love back to backs. Nothing beats hockey and then more hockey (only problem is, nearing the season end and withdrawal is inevitable...feast to famine). For the team's sake, not so much. Let's go boys, one domino at a time. 5-2 Canucks. We are scoring MACHINES.
  8. Sounds like a big bunch of excuses to me. Aw well, in lighter news.... (Burr's having a rough year. This time? Granola bar)
  9. I'm not venting here anymore...I've totally unloaded my thoughts and directed them where they should go...to the deaf, dumb and blind mutes over at NHL Safety. Here, go tell them what you think of their decision: https://twitter.com/NHLPlayerSafety/status/449253385703669760 Maybe they'll eventually get so tired of us nattering them that they'll actually do something right, just to shut us up? I am relentless in this. I've had enough and the game as I knew it is dead. Not just this incident...everything. Every single stinking thing that reeks of corruption, bias, an agenda and an unlevel playing field. Helps to let it out. Burr's been a warrior...whatever, hope one day the lawsuits pile up as players who weren't protected as they should be fight back. They've made a mockery of this game. Guys in suits in a social club who don't have a clue. They'll (fans) drop like flies soon...no one needs this gong show.
  10. The way they show the angle that works for them and then explains based on that? Absolute manipulation and BS. So transparent and utterly disappointing. You can't fool all the hockey fans all the time. Some of us see right through how they slant things to make their case. Pathetic. Over it. WWENHL. I won't ever count on fairness or even winning....just along for the ride now.
  11. Here's another thing: the NHL conveniently picks and chooses which image/angle they present their case with. It reeks of bias and manipulation. Show them all. Show the video. Don't just find the angle that you can work into your agenda. #theythinkwe'reblindfools Anyhow, the league just continues to diminish any faith I have in fairness or a level playing field. Do I feel they're "against" the Canucks?.....if there's something that's 50/50, I can count on them weighing against us. So yes. Is nothing sacred anymore? Sports used to be fun. Moving on. Open season on heads.
  12. I just thought you were a crazy cat lady like the rest of us.

Luci is definitely a crazy cat lady. I wonder if she refers to them as "familiars" however. That would tell us a lot.

hmm.. looks like you need to clarify things in here deb:

  13. So Toews...what if the guy making the decisions has an off day? Has an agenda or is biased? Needs his eyeglass prescription renewed? Leaving it open to interpretation leaves it open. So, well, no crying foul when someone incurs a brain injury then, right? The league is NOT doing a good job in this....this was a head shot and nothing is happening. Fail.
  14. This is likely what will happen. If the league continues to fail players like Burr because they have a (pardon the pun) burr up their butts, then that is inappropriate. They are failing to do their job and protect their employees. And perhaps one day it will come back to bite them....they seem to feel a sense of power that over rules all, but there are other options and it seems that professional athletes are looking at that. Just as in any job place, those in charge must ensure workers' safety and allow them to do their job without risk (obviously, in a contact sport, to some degree...there will be a certain element of risk assumed). However, if the head is off limits there should be no decision making process even available beyond "you did it". Not "well, he was angled this way and the guy leaned that way and the wind was blowing in a Southerly direction at 3 mph with a tint off someone's glasses affecting things". It then nullifies the whole process because it's allowing for some headshots. And some will be bad. Anyhow, enough on this from me....won't change things but it's ridiculous that we are still even having these conversations. That, in itself, proves there are unresolved issues in this. What, 10 years or so of trying to figure it out? Who's at the helm here?...get some new captains on board steering the ship.
  15. Agree 100%. I don't think his helmet would have been slightly ajar with the chin strap out of place if it's a body hit. And they HAVE to rule out any "decision making"....if the head is contacted during a hit, it's a foul. Until they do that, this is all for nothing.
  16. So where is this thinking when it's Gagne? When it's Hossa? I'll wait for your answer.....
  17. It's nice to be excited about hockey again. It was floundering there for a bit. Thing is, I don't expect that we'll be perfect which is what is required. So I've already set myself up for the disappointment that may come, but as long as we have the team out there giving it their all, I'll stand behind them in that. Hoping they can end their season on a high note and take away something from that in comparing to how it felt for the couple of months when they were down and out. Injury was a big part of that but, even so, the young guys now stepping up are learning how to do that. The future looks bright.
  18. This is all over the map. He did, well maybe he didn't. He should but I don't think he should. You've just demonstrated, perfectly, how inconsistency works (or doesn't). If the league decides like this, then we're all doomed. Make clear lines in the sand and then don't waver. But this wishy washy thinking is dangerous...it protects no one. And where is this front angle? If you have something, post it because these angles show he did come up (one of his skates actually leaves the ice) and got his elbows up too. A game or two would suffice. It keeps the message of "no head shots" consistent. If they keep leaving it open to interpretation, it won't do away with it. I thought that was the point - to get rid of head shots. Only some? Well that bloody well won't protect anyone. Used to be that guys didn't wear helmets too but, in learning about the lingering effect of head shots and concussions, the league is supposed to be protecting against that. I'd like to hear explanations for ALL of them, even the ones they try to ignore and move quickly past. I want to hear why. This was not the worst head hit ever but so what? It's a head shot. Some are targeting Burr as someone who's just had a broken jaw and going high in that. His elbows are up, connect with his head and Burr's helmet moves out of place. That happens with contact to the head, not the chest. Don't be so quick to excuse every single thing against the Canucks.
  19. What an absolute joke this league is. Pathetic. As long as they pick and choose, they send a message that "you can get away with it". So much for cracking down on things...more that they're seeing which ones they can continue to ignore and sweep under the rug. Just glad Burr wasn't hurt. If this was on Crosby?? Someone will have serious injury again. Maybe the next lawsuit will be directed at the NHL and a workplace that doesn't know how to set clear boundaries that protect workers. Two bit hacks doing this stuff.
  20. Hey, he made a great save tonight! Back up for Eddie.
  21. Don Taylor suggested he'd have a visit with Shanny. In this climate in the NHL, I'd have to agree.
  22. You ain't been slashed till you have to have your nailed burned off slashed to get to the gash. -Burr
  23. I don't give a flying frisbee what our status is, winning sure feels good. As does seeing some goals scored...good work boys.
  24. Yep, that uneasiness will take some time to subside. 9-0 maybe? Maybe not.
  25. Can't let up...we know how that ends....
