"Pickle stabbing". That's a hockey term I haven't heard before (but it makes sense). -
I really get tired of this back and forth, even if I've participated in it in the past. I am a self proclaimed homer but still that term gets thrown around and used to make others seem inferior to the "knowledgeable" fans who claim their stance is based in knowing more. When, really, all of us just have opinions. This post of yours creates more of a divide than bringing anyone together. Us vs them. So...what is the point? Gun fanatics and religious zealots? Seriously? I think what is sometimes lost is "reading the room". I actually love hockey and watch other games but if you come in here after a loss (or string of them) touting other teams' greatness and slamming this one, people are already agitated and it may rub them the wrong way. I mean, if you go to a party and it's lame most would...leave. Not slander the hosts, scream how awful it is. Some people may take a different experience away from it all, despite losing. We don't have to grumble, be disgruntled and miserable in order to be true fans (either). Life is what we make it and some of us like to live that way. The "shortcoming" part is precisely what rubs people the wrong way. Just because some may choose to take away the positive experience (of just enjoying hockey, which was ripped away for awhile), doesn't make it an issue. It's not about rooting people out, it's about remembering where we are...a Canucks fan site. This site is very tolerant in comparison to some other team sites. If you notice stuff, that's what the report button is for....not coming in to a thread to call others out. There's a lot of thinly veiled stuff in your post but it hasn't gone unnoticed. Or confirm that it's correct. Trolling is poking and prodding others...it's not about "not hating all other teams". It's how you present your opinion. And, to be honest, this pointing out of all that's wrong with some fans is more a part of the problem than the solution. Bottom line is, it's ok to still be a fan without meaning we're delusional or have shortcomings. Those labels don't do much to sell a point. If anything, those who stick around despite being utterly miserable and unhappy should really assess that rather than others. The point in watching hockey isn't to prove our vast knowledge...it's for enjoyment and entertainment. Even through the rough patches, of which some of us have learned to weather the storms and not lash out.

I'm bored, it's what I do..... Twas the nights before Christmas when all through CDC Everyone was stirring wondering what was to be The banners were hung from the rafters with care With all but a Stanley Cup hanging up there The members were nestled all snug in their beds As visions of future picks danced in their heads Bo's contract unsigned, damn that dumb cap Where is management (taking a nap?) When out from Twitter there arose such a clatter People spewing off, angry they nattered But away to the rink I flew like flash Handing over some of my hard earned cash The team on the breast of the freshly groomed ice Was a little more naughty than they were nice When what to my wandering eye would appear Things got even worse...what?! Petey's not here?? We didn't have many who were lively and quick How many of the others were ailing and sick? As they took to the ice for warm ups pre game Al Murdoch would, once again, call them by name On Horvat and Boeser, Kuzmenko and Miller Mikheyev and Schenn and some other paid filler Hit the net, top corner, no need to stall Now dash away, dash away, dash away all! Before everyone leaves, let's take out Seattle Boys better be ready to come out and battle If up in the rooftop, scoreboard shows up by two Don't skate with lead skates, we're counting on you Or again, for those drinking up near the roof As even the beer guy becomes bored and aloof But my cowbell in hand, let's turn this around Hear cheering and chanting and happier sounds We want all out effort, from head to foot Not stocking's full of coal and soot Come out with energy, an all out attack No skating like you've got sacks on your backs We want to be happy, we want to be merry The goal light to light up, rosey, like a cherry Our mouths to draw up as they announce goals by Bo Followed by Brock, JT, Kuzmenko We want Vegas flustered, clenching their teeth A big shutout zero, hung up like a wreath Shorty and Garret beaming, together they celly Bellies laughing, like bowls full of jelly We want everyone cheery, including our Alf Who sometimes gives up, in spite of himself Some good solid wins, show the team isn't dead And help us believe that there's nothing to dread Even those always grumbling, who've made that their work To become much kinder and a little less jerk For those in the past who've turned up their nose Will start to believe as, up the standings they rose! As the refs remember how to use their whistles And our team wakes up, firing goals in like missiles My wish is simple, just show up tonight Merry Christmas to all, let's see that goal light!
