  1. Maybe at the end of his tenure he felt like that but as president they walked that path as well. Who knows, maybe loyalty to the Sedins pays off long term as they stay involved with the club.
  2. For Vegas at least they aren’t getting any younger as well. They’ll still be out of our league next year - but after that I think it’s a lot less certain.
  3. Whenever I see this thread I have this thought, so I’ll share it: It’s not good enough to win a cup, but it’s good enough for next year. If we clear space, maybe we add one more veteran D. Maybe two if we move Myers. But I’m happy enough to see if any of the younger guys can carve out a role on the bottom pair and we really need to see it OEL can bounce back. If he doesn’t, I think 2LD becomes as important (and probably easier to find) than 1RD to play with Hughes, who is already dominating without it.
  4. I won’t be upset if we take Benson but I’m personally hoping C and then D before any of the likely Ws. C in particular - why not try and lean into the strength of this draft?
  5. I hear you - and that could make sense. From a genuine curiosity standpoint: does the team think so lowly of Myers that they’d move him for meagre assets (vs deadline trade) and LTIR space vs having him in the lineup? I’d doubt that with a healthy Bear. With Bear in doubt (or not even being signed) I think the safe bet is Myers as a Canuck until the TDL. We’re a team with playoff aspirations and they’re going to prioritize the warm body. I’ll be happy to be wrong, though. Here’s to some handshakes and winks between GMs and UFAs. Might be more than normal with so many teams strapped.
  6. Old Harm Dayal just as bamboozled as I am on the Van Cast regarding us opening up space this year. If you’re giving up a winger - you’re likely doing so at a loss vs their value and need a plan to use that space more effectively. Is that even possible in UFA? Then re: Myers. You can’t really wait for that bonus because who needs the cap space that close to the season? Wish I had heard him talk a little more about player for player trades. That’s the path where I see the best chance of success.
  7. Hopefully Detroit pulls another Zadina and the real prize falls into our laps. (which I’m hoping is a C)
  8. Then we gotta take Matthew Mania too. Fun name mania.
  9. Granlund stinking I think is what makes Pitt interested. It’s not ideal but we do cover off 3C that was going to be very hard to fit given our cap situation. Flipping 1sts gives Dubas the future asset he needs to keep working on the roster in the present. We get a chance to land two elite prospects sooner than later with our young - but not that young - core. Just an idea! Very much doubt it happens.
  10. Yeah. I’d assume they have a few players they’d take without hesitation and don’t really need the extra interview. These are 3 they probably have left on the board after their mock draft or maybe 1-2 they’re interested in and a smoke screen like you said. With our 11 somewhat in play it would be beneficial to keep other GM’s guessing.
  11. To Pittsburgh: Garland, our 2024 1st (top 10 protected) To Van: Granlund, 14OA 2023
  12. I’ve waffled all over the place but if it’s down to Willander, Danielson or Barlow I like the way Allvin is thinking. Particularly the C / D but haven’t looked as closely at Barlow.
  13. Yeah it would take a ton to shake him loose - (I was agreeing with you, just to clarify, “nope” as in, nope they aren’t looking to trade him!) (would be a great target if they were, though.)
  14. Cap gymnastics aside, if you’re selling Hughes you’re basically rebuilding. At that point you may as well keep OEL and bank as many assets as possible. I thought management might look to strongly re-tool around Petey and Hughes after we traded Horvat but the Hronek deal wiped that off the map. We’re moving forward. Good chance OEL will be bought out before his contract is up but every year we keep him takes 2 off the penalty and lowers the hit. In the mean time it pays to see if he can bounce back.
  15. Going to have to disagree there. Garland > Beau as he can actually drive a line and was one of the few players consistently giving a good effort in his own zone last year as well. He’s worth the extra bit of cap. Beau seems like the odd man out once Mikhayev is back healthy from what I can see. Maybe Allvin thinks he can’t trade him either - Lou was trying for a long time as well.
  16. I read that as well and I wish there was more information. What kind of sweetener? Does that mean a deal is on the table if we want it? And is it just an ask from tanking teams who have no interest in the player and just see a 5x3 contract? Strange Allvin isn’t looking to deal Beauvillier’s contract which is a much easier to swallow 4x1 at this point if they’re all just anchors and we’re paying to clear cap. There’s obviously more to this and it’s killing me to see how it plays out.
  17. Yeah, a 1st feels way too rich to me as well and if it’s in play for us we should be looking at a young D or C not a winger. Too bad we don’t have a 2nd in this draft or next - that feels like a better price. Lafreniere is intriguing because he might hit that 1OA upside with a proper coach and opportunity. But there’s other intriguing players.
  18. nope - says in the article as well he’s expected to be a regular for them next year. This guy sounds like a perfect guy to try and land as a player but is part of that hockey Canada investigation. If that’s cleared, he also had a nice playoffs so they might move to keep him.
  19. I could actually see Allvin doing something like this. Would create quite the buzz if nothing else.
  20. Bringing in Hronek, Bear, Johannson and Hirose while D-Petey, Juulsen and Woo made progress was a nice step in the right direction on the back end. If we do anything I hope it’s in the bargain bin while we let Tocchet, Foote and Gonchar see what we have. Maybe we have to buy out OEL next offseason but we can’t replace him yet. We also can’t replace Myers until he’s gone. Unless an absolute steal of a deal presents itself I can’t see much happening. Maybe a bigger veteran 3LD on the cheap but as it stands the right side is full and the top 4 on the left side is also occupado- whether you like the pieces or not. So, the 11OA for Carlo? Or maybe we take a big run at Peeke - though the 11 is a huge overpay there and we don’t have a 2nd. I’d like either of those guys but that criteria is haaaard to fill - and even the two I named have some warts.
  21. Other than being a dink, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here. Maybe explain it to me with smaller words so I can understand.
  22. Nice. I’ve liked the Mantha idea for awhile now. And as an aside: I know the ship has sailed but getting geared up for the draft makes me want to move Miller to the Pens for the 14OA… then take back Granlund and ask for their 2024 1st as well. Then shop one of our 2024 1sts to try and find a new 2C.
  23. On the plus side, Allvin seems to be patient and reading into the rumours a bit, teams have offered to take wingers *with sweeteners* and he’s rightly refused so far. This might test his limits, though. I could see us settling on a winger for Granlund or Johansen. Not super stoked about it but that shouldn’t require a sweetener (if anything, something coming our way.)
  24. He’s led the team in scoring twice and sits at around 25 all time Canuck scoring. He’s definitely “good” and I don’t think management was ever looking to give him away. Given what he’s been through I think it’s more than fair to give him a chance to get back on track under Tocchet, who seems to love him.
