Yeah, and he had one going into that deal. You give him another so he signs with you. Otherwise he walks for nothing. and you’re the one who named the twins on there. What contending team was going to have 12 mil in cap space for a couple of defensive liabilities to shelter and trot out for PP2 duties. For a guy who seems to think it’s easy, you really haven’t put a lot of thought into it.

Edler and the Sedins had full no trades with zero desire to move. The rest of those players? You’re talking about leaving a 5 dollar bill on the sidewalk and scoffing line he should have been a millionaire… not to mention as if you aren’t the type that would have been excited over Dahen and Goldobin.

Yep I watch, I just don’t play “spot the mistake” with OEL and feed into the confirmation bias that he’s what’s dragging the team down. He was good last year and his struggling this season coincides with the entire team struggling. It stands to reason he’ll look better if the team improves it’s two way play.
-
That wasn’t my comment though - people act like OEL is getting in the way of the team’s success and he isn’t. Over the next four years he’ll get better if the team gets better. He played well last season. This year he’s putting up more points. The entire team can’t defend. It’a dumb to just point the finger at one guy when it’s clearly a team issue. He can’t do it all himself.

Honest Conversation With Those Who Still Support Management
ilduce39 replied to JohnTavares's topic in Canucks Talk
Benning and Weisbrod left the team with a 2 larger bad contracts on the books in Myers and OEL. Some guys like Dickinson, Pearson, Poolman who could go. And some wasted cap in Holtby, Virtanen and Ferland that lasted 1 year. Plus a pretty thin prospect pool but some good young NHL’ers like Hogs and Pods. The team has a deep forward group, including a pretty good 1-2 punch at C. Weak defence but a franchise guy in Hughes and a good starter in Demko. Contract wise, everyone can play so if you can’t move them and arent expecting to contend, just take your medicine and keep them. There’s worse fates than having Pearson and Dickinson in the bottom 6 of the roster. The team was ripe for a re-tool. Trade a forward piece or two, particularly Miller and try to rebuild the back end. The problem is, new Jim kept everyone. Plus bring in Mikheyev. And the one guy he decided to move in Dickinson, cost a 2nd to ship out. Weak prospect pool? The Chytil, Lundqvist, 1st return would have given us a big, young LW/C to replace Miller… a 1st and a RD who was worth a 1st to the Stars. And who knows what else was out there since it’s clear they didn’t really want to move Miller. Then, moving the rights to Boeser and/or simply letting him go to FA frees up the cap needed to add guys like Bear and/or Marino if you want to add young RHD. For a lot less than the 14+ mil those two are going to command next year. Now, that’s with the benefit of hindsight. At this point looks like we should sell on Kuzmenko and Horvat, whom I’d rather have than Boeser/Miller but it is what it is. I think they need to trade Schenn as well while circling back this summer. But these kinds of moves needed to be made last offseason. -
It’s a huge pet peeve how the social media fanbase loves to just pick on one or two guys. Meanwhile, 3/4 of the team is untradable because of how poorly the team has played. We likely get value for: Bo, Hughes, Petey, Kuzmenko and Schenn. Due to contracts / team play I’m not sure anyone else is bringing back a return - maybe some contract for contract stuff.
-
Take OEL out and replace him with any defenceman in the league. Is the team magically transformed into a playoff-lock contender? Of course not. The issues in the locker room are way deeper than any one player and need to be addressed before you can really tell how anyone has “declined” or whatever. He’s probably just bummed out that he left Arizona for an even bigger mess.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
ilduce39 replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lots of tempting deals out there. I hope management changes their tune and considers futures as the principle return on any deals they make. -

Chris Gear had a good tweet about how management has just come in and let everyone know Bruce, Horvat and Boeser are all basically out the door and everyone else not named Elias is on the block. Not an easy dynamic to play under… and even going back to the summer they snipped Bruce’s balls and ignored Bo to chase a Miller deal. Add to that the rumoured deal getting nixed on the draft floor and the Garland, OEL-being-asked-to-waive rumours and this team’s effort level makes a lot more sense. -
[Discussion] Do You Have the Stomach For a Rebuild?
ilduce39 replied to Warhippy's topic in Canucks Talk
What does a rebuild look like? Who has value? Trade Bo, Kuzmenko and Schenn. That’s the rebuild 2022-2023. If they’re lucky maybe you can do a hockey trade in the offseason for Boeser or Garland or both… and try to get a contract back + a minor future consideration but I’m not sure. -

I’d say we miss Shaw but the Flyers are actually doing worse than us. (I do think we miss Shaw.) -

Sadly, nothing is likely to happen for a few more months. I wouldn’t expect big moves before the deadline and even then I everyone is so capped out it’ll be tough. -

It’s amazing how a team that in the bubble looked like it was on the rise (and had that kind of hype from media across the league) has just catastrophically pooped their pants. I know some players like Edler, Tanev, Marky, Sutter, Beagle etc were good on the ice but it’s so much more than that. This team needs to be smashed apart and rebuilt around certain guys. Which ones, I honestly have no idea besides Petey. -
I remember there was a lot of uncertainty around Makar heading into that draft because he was playing in some lower tier Albertan league. But rumour had it we were going to take him. Ah well. I agree management should be looking at an “everyone but Petey” approach here. I also think with the inevitable coaching change + a major trade or two this group has a lot of potential to turn it around quickly. To that end I’m glad management is going to give it an honest effort to stay competitive, at least for the short term. As long as we aren’t letting guys walk for nothing you can always sell for picks.
