Saying the team has been bad and pointing to one of the best players, who plays a key position, as the reason they’ve been bad is terrible logic. I don't even know what to say to it. If this is a “they need to rebuild” post then maybe just say so. Sure, whatever, it looks like they aren’t going that direction but you can want that if you like.

I get what you’re saying - we need better two way play from the 3rd line and you’re absolutely correct. As it stands there’s Boeser, Garland, Podkolzin and Pearson who can all score slotted for the 3rd line. (I guess you could swap one with Hoglander). We all know Boeser is likely out the door but even then I doubt we’ll be hurting for depth scoring - at least from the wings. Finding a two way guy who can lock down that 3C is a huge issue for this team - as much as the RD in my opinion. Not an easy task given our cap situation.

Knowing this management / ownership they’re going to buck up and give him a solid offer before the deadline. Then we’ll have to see what he does. If he doesn’t accept, we’ll see if management has the stones to get something for him. All the things I (we?) said about not losing Miller for nothing are somehow more important with Horvat.

I was certainly on team “take your medicine” regarding the Eriksson crew’s contracts. I wouldn’t have done this deal. But I agree - I don’t think it’s the disaster some paint it as. OEL is producing at about a 40 point pace despite being PP2. Plus despite some more limited minutes the past few weeks is still #2 in ice time. People get hung up on his contract but you’re going to be paying *someone* around that much to play those minutes and put up those points. It could always be more efficient but I don’t think flopping to the ground and giving up on the next 5 years is the answer.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
ilduce39 replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Schenn is a huge part of the leadership for this team that seriously lacks… character and leadership. This group never really recovered from losing Tanev and Markstrom. Then we lost Edler, Sutter and Beagle. Maybe not all the strongest players or best contracts but every one em was a “good in the room” kind of player. I’d be very careful about moving Schenn. Would have to be a 2023 2nd for me. -
[Discussion] Do You Have the Stomach For a Rebuild?
ilduce39 replied to Warhippy's topic in Canucks Talk
Demko struggling might be a good long term thing for the club, highlighting the weaknesses in structure and personnel. We’re probably in or right there for the playoffs if he’s healthy. Hopefully as the cap opens up management can adjust as needed. Might be slower than we’d like in the current climate though and the more I think about it, what’s the rush? If you’re retooling there isn’t much of a margin for error so need to get it right.. and if we’re rebuilding then who cares. Hold on and get the most you can. -
I don’t care we we rebuild or not, but take a hike with the pessimist hero I told you so nonsense. There’s plenty of quality players in this roster that I’m not going to apologize cheering for. No idea why they’ve devolved into this mess but if they aren’t traded there’s 5-6 guys who will easily be top 20 Canucks points-wise in the next few seasons. There’s some fabulous talent despite being a broken team.

Due to his contract and recent play Demko could have returned a great haul last offseason. I (jokingly) said the Leafs would give the moon for him. But no one is trading for a guy who stunk it up all year and is currently injured. -

I think the top 8 or so in the draft are all C’s besides that Russian kid. That’s what I was alluding to - not just Bedard. -

It’s a hard thing to plan for, but moving Bo and getting one of those really good C’s at the top of the draft might be the best case scenario. -

Two convincing wins against elite teams and we pooped our pants the next two. Squeezing one out against the Yotes… who knows? Management has to see that changes need to be made. I believe the Boeser trade rumours. It’s a tough time to watch the product on the ice but this franchise is still pretty interesting to keep tabs on. -
If it’s his agent reaching out maybe he can discuss Brock’s interest signing an extension around 5 mil. Could be a steal for a 2nd line winger / PP guy who puts up around a PPG. He’s 25, scored at a 65 point pace over his career and in the past was deemed responsible enough to be on the first line. There’s bound to be a market for him, especially with the cap going up.

Some time off might be what’s best for him right now, anyways. Wish him a full recovery.
