I’ve been making the Petey-Datsyuk comparison for awhile (and granted he hasn’t always lived up to it) but damn we need to lock him up. He’s the type of player that you win cups with.

[Rumour] Ottawa & Vancouver Still Actively Talking Trade

It’s also still November. No reason to jump into a deal unless it‘s an offer we can’t refuse. -

Between Garland or Boeser, I move Boeser. I like the edge Garland brings even if he is a smurfaroo. More than happy to keep either, though. So for me potential returns would factor in. -

If they want to do right by their mental health initiatives they need to smooth this over, for sure. I don’t think firing her was the right call for an organization that promotes mental health initiatives. (Even if I’m not sure she has much of a court case.) She’s not making it easy to extend an olive branch here, though, as she’s in fight or flight and lashing out.
-
The thing got pulled - I didn’t see any confirmation that Yeo didn’t get a little talking to for whatever he said (I forget the example given.) Because iirc that’s all it was, Castonguay called her into the office, told her to knock it off, she argued and Emile ignored her in Whistler. She then needed treatment from medical staff and went to HR to complain about Castonguay. Then was let go - no reason given but Allvin alluded that he “could” have used talking to the media as a reason. I skimmed it, but that’s what it seemed like to me.
-
I think she’s being very honest about being in a mental health crisis right now. And fair enough. None of this is going to help her career at all. On that level I definitely feel bad for her. She’s making some public / social media moves she probably doesn’t do if she’s feeling solid.
-
Oh man. As an aside, I always assume those super snarky Twitter personalities have terrible mental health and yeah, there it is. I do feel bad for her - that sounds very difficult with the heart condition and nobody wants one of their bosses to be giving them the cold shoulder. But it’s professional sports - it’s built on competitive edge, toughness and grit. Castonguay being a bag to her isn’t a human rights violation. Also pretty clear Rutherford is working hard to keep media leaks in check. Nothing wrong with that. She wasn’t immediately fired for it - they just tried to slap her hand and it spiralled. Mental health doesn’t give you a blank cheque to not be sent to the principal’s office. Maybe she has a case because they’re dismissing her because of her mental illness? But they hired her. Gave her a chance. Promoted her. But she really seemed to perseverate on how Emile didn’t congratulate her on the promotion. I get why they made the cold decision to just cut ties even if the best course would have probably to give her some time / space to heal up and try again.

I think they pretty much have to try to move one of them regardless of the plan. That said, they’ll likely have a lot more value once the cap goes up.

I don’t think they’re going to win it all next year with something like that but it would be more balanced. To win, they’re going to need to hit on a home run that isn’t super obvious. Guys are going to need to elevate, some mundane prospects are going to have to show up out of nowhere. We’re going to have to land a real fleecing of a trade or UFA signing. Think of the 2011 team. Guys like the twins, Bieksa, Burrows and Kesler all smashing their ceilings. Ehrhoff being available for nothing. Malhotra deciding to sign. It takes some bounces. -

In a perfect world they’re able to keep: Petey-Mikhayev Bo-Miller as the top 6. Decisions need to be made around which wingers stay and go. They need to find a way to move out Myers. They save 8 mil from Ferland, Virtanen, Holtby and Dermott coming off the books. Bettman says the cap is going up 4 mil. Hypothetically, if they move Garland and Myers that’s another 11 (or 12 if it’s Boeser instead of Garland.) 23 mil in cap space gets eaten up quickly, granted. 2.75 and 2.5 mil raises for Bo and Miller. To get them both to 8. Conservatively, let’s say Petey comes in at 11. (+3.65) Kuzmenko gets 6. (+5) That’s 9.1 and you do need to re-sign Hoglander, Podkolzin, Bear and Schenn. Not a lot of raises coming there. Maybe 2 mil worth? 7 mil to replace Myers and look for a 3C is rough though. UFA RD for Dumba, Severson or Klingberg likely eats that up. Still, you could end up with something like: Mikhayev-Pettersson-Kuzmenko Miller-Horvat-Hoglander Boeser-Dries-Podkolzin Joshua-Lazar-Pearson Studnicka Hughes-Dumba or Severson OEL-Bear Rathbone-Schenn Burroughs Demko Martin To me, Dries and Rathbone stand out as places you’d want to improve but I think we’d need to add futures to clear out, say, Poolman’s contract or Pearson. C UFAs look pretty slim though or guys unlikely to sign here. Probably needs to be addressed via trade. -

Probably because Brock only has 3 goals and Quinn has none… but watch out if those two start turning it on. Really feels like we’ve seen them at another level (or two) in the past. -

I love Brock but he (and Hughes) must be having the two most un-sexiest PPG starts to a season I’ve ever seen. -

Loved what Juice pointed out there. Joshua taking that scrap really did take the edge out of the game.
