  1. I am glad you have popped up again in this topic. I know you are a smart empathetic person. Do you think Will should have done it? over a joke. Chris claimed he didn't know about the condition, so I will take him at his word Do you think Chris might have some emotional scaring from the slap? He was attacking in front of millions.... what does that do to his psyche? Would he have been reminded that he was a small person that had to just take it from a bully?
  2. It really made Hollywood look bad. Different standards for people of so called status and apparently males/females.... still. Jim Carrey has released a good statement, I think Rup posted it
  3. I used to know a guy that prided himself on knocking dudes out with a slap, nevermind a punch. Then again he was 6'6 and 320lbs. Of course another reference from my managing nightclub days. We were good buds too for a while until he started to act like this...he went on to be a criminal with a certain biker gang. I doubt he is still breathing these days.
  4. I mentioned that earlier. GI Jane came out 25 years ago! Come on Chris.
  5. I understand. Wasn't missing the fact but wanted to just give my personal opinion on the look. She could have worn a wig but was brave enough to not and looked great for that decision. Did not mean to offend. As, I have stated I shaved my head for most of my adult life. Will laughed at the joke. That gets overlooked. Then he must have realised it hurt Jada's feeling so he went of to attack a person. It doesn't seem right to me and not an honest response to what Will actually thought, due to his laughing. There's something that doesn't seem to have equality here. Jada can stick up for herself. Shes a grown woman in the public eye. Equality also isn't there for Chris, I mentioned in the world thread If it was Dwyane Johnson saying the joke Will wouldn't have done a thing ( I've since seen a meme saying the same). Will would have had to use his words but for a smaller man to say the joke...Will gets to be a bully. What I found almost as bad as the slap was the yelling from the seat by Will. It sounded like that high school bully that doesn't let you speak and raised his voice as a warning like he would do more....
  6. I'm kinda joking but I got under a posters skin for my opinion on the Will Smith slap. I respect the poster but am confused with her take on what I'm saying. So makes me a bit sad.
  7. Please win Nucks I feel sad. I have spent too much time in the Will Smith thread and don't want any more proverbial slaps to the face.
  8. Defend? it was an assault. Maybe you can call the physical violence horrifying. Just like Will said in his apology. It's not the man he wants to be. He was talking about being a better man. This is a problem that men have. I know more men that have assault charges than I can remember ( 15 yrs nightclub work, granville). So maybe men in this thread can have an opinion? We need to try to be better and evolve. We need to talk and have empathy. Chris' joke was in bad taste if he knew about her condition. But it didn't deserve a criminal violent act to be committed against him, in front of millions of people.
  9. I didn't mention alopecia, just the aesthetic. I just said I think bald heads look nice. Men too, I have shaved my head for most my adult life. I think Jada is cool and brave for the look. She could have worn a wig maybe. I have mentioned Chris' doc 'Good hair' it's eye opening. Have you seen it? Most black females weave in Indian hair or even wear wigs. I wish his little daughter had not felt sad at such a young age over her natural hair. He's a good man for doing that doc. I just think Demi was pretty in that movie. I know girls that think the same. I didn't say all girls. In a different reality Jada might have thought it was funny or even smart for Chris to compare her to someone a lot of people find attractive. I dunno. I don't know why I have irritated you so much but it makes me sad. I have always found you really cool. I did what you asked. My wife has read our convo of you asking me what kind of man i am, you told me to get her to read it. She thinks Will was way out of line and she would be embarrassed to be his wife. I dont know what kind of woman you would think that makes her but I feel I am so lucky to be married to her.
  10. I think females with bald heads can look really good. I think Jada looks good. I had a friend that had that style for years in the 90's. She was an actor and got lots of parts, very pretty. My wife used to consider it. We have always enjoyed people brave enough to rock a different look. And as far as saying you look like a bald Demi Moore. Wow what a huge diss. I know many girls that would have taken that as compliment.
  11. I mentioned in the worlds events thread that Chris Rock is very conscious of hair and the cultural pressure on black women. He made a great documentary about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Hair According to Rock, he was inspired to make the movie after his three-year-old daughter Lola asked him, "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" She has curly, wiry hair typical of many people of African descent. He realized she had already absorbed the perception among some black people that curly hair was not "good".[3] Rock delves into the $9 billion black hair industry, and visits such places as beauty salons, barbershops, and hairstyling conventions to explore popular approaches to styling. He visits scientific laboratories to learn the science behind chemical relaxers that straighten hair.[3][4] Chris has said he didn't know about Jada's condition. Maybe, just maybe he thought she would like the joke? Maybe, he spotted that she wasn't worried about having 'good hair' and was showing that strong women can have any style that they want? maybe. Maybe he actually thought that looking like Demi Moore was cool instead of the overdone good hair styles that he discusses in his doc? Maybe. What isn't a maybe is the idea to physically attack a person over a joke. Will has admitted he was completely wrong and has directly apologised to Chris. Maybe more people should give it the thought that Will did and see the error in their support of violence. One thing that hasn't been said about the joke is that it's a bad reference because GIJane came out 25 years ago, not because it's teasing bald heads.
  12. Of course. That's why it's such a good discussion. However in daily lives, usually someone doesn't get a pass because of who they are.
  13. Agreed. But it's not about a dumb award show. It's about allowing assault based on some peoples perception of wrong and right. About a status in society of one person vs another. About one of the last bastiens of free speech, the ancient art of comedy.
  14. I doubt it. As time goes by more people seem to becoming around to the obvious, that the act was wrong. Simple as that. I think it has been a good thing to have this happen. The discussion about if/when violence is acceptable apparently needed to be had. I have made my opinion very clear in the world events thread but this was obvious from the get go. Will was wrong. He ended up being lucky because Chris Rock is such a ...well, rock. It's also nice to see the Oscars get the ribbing they deserve, such as Carrey's comments, for their pathetic response.
  15. Agreed. this... "I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation. I felt like Hollywood is just spineless, en masse. It really felt like, 'Oh, this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore," said Carrey
  16. Totally. I have already stated that a bad joke doesn't deserve a physical attack. But the extra twist that Chris may not have known about the medical condition and the fact that he has specifically made a documentary about the nature of hair in the female black community should show where his heart is. He made the doc after his daughter had questions about her natural hair ( if i recall correctly) He had the same questions. Really recommend it. Maybe my life competing in fighting sports or the 15 years working in the night clubs has exposed me to assaults and violence more than some. I bet I have seen more knocked out people than 99% of this board. Some stories are awful. Just one, regarding just a slap...A young man was challenging a bouncer from the other side of the velvet rope one night. Doorman lost his cool, slap. Young buck fell backwards and hit his head on the sidewalk....brain damage. Ok one more, just to even up the sexes....girl fight in front of the club I managed. One girl being held, one girl lying on the ground from the initial fight. Poor doorman, the girl he was holding wriggled free and booted the downed girl...in the temple....she died right there. I have too many of these stories. I'm 5'11. 200lbs cut with a resting heart rate of avg 58bpms. I hit the gym 6 days a week. I'm a blackbelt. I was asked what kind of man I was yesterday. I asked my wife. She's seen me in too many situations in the past. She said last night that if i had budged from my seat like Will Smith she would have been pissed. She's the real deal. I love that woman.
  17. My wife read last night that Chris Rock didn't even know Jada had alopecia. I know I didn't, barely had heard her name before. So, now it was maybe just a joke about hair... It's possible...I wonder if Chris thought of her hair in reference to his Doc he made. It's great, called 'Good Hair' . I saw it years ago. It talks about hair culture and black women. I wouldn't be surprised if he was hoping Jada was rocking that look for pure style... He might have loved that if it was the case, again if anyone sees the doc you would know what I mean. Edit: Also, I agree with this opinion piece. What Will Smith did isn't what women want https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/28/opinions/will-smith-jada-pinkett-smith-chris-rock-thomas/index.html
  18. The only thing worse than his fighting style is his persona. I referenced him to point out that even if someone tells you to leave your home town and if they meet in the street they will slam you on your head so bad that you will never be the same. ...AND that person is a top fighter on the planet....if you punch them, and they press charges, you can face serious punishment. Hope Mas gets the mutual combatants plea.
