  1. Utica twitter said a limited number will be available for online purchase and to stay tuned for details. EDIT: here’s the tweet from earlier today:
  2. I think there’s a guy named Randy who drives the Zamboni in Utica.
  3. Harvard will qualify for the ECAC tournament, which is happening in March. They’d probably need to win that tourney to actually advance to the regionals for the National tournament, since they aren’t a top-20 team and won’t qualify on their rankings. So most likely they’ll be done sometime mid-to-late March (not sure the ECAC schedule this year) and won’t see Frozen Four action this April. TL;DR: they aren’t done this weekend.
  4. JB should circle back and offer Dubas a 3rd round pick for Barrie, just for gits and shiggles.
  5. Yup. If the Canucks really have eyes on Barrie, they should just hold out for free agency. Take whatever assets they were willing to sacrifice for a Barrie trade, and convert them into sweeteners to accomplish the necessary cap dumps on players that are currently dragging down our salary situation. Then use the cap space gained to re-sign Toffoli and add Barrie via free agency (especially if the rumours are true and Barrie really wants to come here and will take a home town discount). Re-sign Tanev and our RFA forwards, and look to trade rights on any players we’re moving on from, to add picks or move up spots at the draft. And while we’re at it, re-sign Marky on a fairly generous one-year deal, with the promise of a long term extension, to be signed after the expansion draft. Protect Demko, and leave Marky exposed, but as a UFA (since he’d actually have to agree to sign a deal with Seattle—which seems highly unlikely under those circumstances—for us to lose him to the expansion draft). After all that, with our bad contracts finally off the books (and hopefully no new ones added), we should still have enough cap space to deal with the coming extensions on our young core pieces.
  6. Interesting swap of 24 year olds. Heinen actually has the superior scoring numbers (career 0.47 NHL points/game to Ritchie’s 0.38), plays a better two-way game, and is comfortable at all three forward positions. Ritchie is obviously much bigger and he has the higher upside, in terms of raw talent. Heinen has the better motor and skating, and, while certainly smaller than Ritchie, is still a respectable 6’1” and plays a plucky style with some fairly good grit and energy. Both players signed through 2020-21 (RFA on expiry), with Ritchie (~1.5M) carrying roughly half the cap hit of Heinen (2.8M). Harder to pick a winner here, than it might have seemed on first glance (with Ritchie’s name recognition and draft pedigree). Could be one of those deals where both teams actually end up winning.
  7. That Luchuk kid has built up a lot of mileage for somebody who’s yet to play his first NHL game. Already been traded from Ottawa to Toronto, back to Ottawa, and now on to Montreal. Former Vancouver camp invite as well. Wonder if he’ll bounce around the Prairies in the coming years, to complete the full Canadian tour.
  8. Chris Drury’s nephew. Jack Drury is Ted Drury’s son.
  9. Good trade, if we can extend Toffoli. That’s the “big if,” though. Not that the value itself is bad, if this turns out to be a pure rental. Toffoli was always going to command something in the range of a 2nd plus a very good prospect. JB did just fine here, on value as a deadline rental. If he can re-sign Toffoli (and hopefully JB has reason to be confident that he can get a deal done), he’s done very well. But if Toffoli is gone after this season, this is a very hefty price to give up for a team at the Canucks’ stage of rebuilding/competitiveness. I rate Madden highly and see him as a future #2C (probably middle-six at worst). I’d value him right now as equivalent to a first round pick (despite us stealing him in the 3rd round of the 2018 Draft). At the same time, I see Toffoli as a very good 2nd line winger, who could potentially prove an ideal fit for Horvat’s line over the next 4-5 years. Basically, it’s a good move (potentially a very good move) if Toffoli gets extended, but bad move (and some serious asset bleeding) if we lose Madden and a second rounder for a rental. And just a sickening move, for years to come, if Toffoli goes back to LA and plays on Madden’s wing for the next five years. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. In any case, it will be fun to finish out this year with Toffoli in the mix. And hopefully this season isn’t the last we see of him in Canucks colours.
  10. Lol, hockey gods right the wrong. Huskies score! 4-2 now
  11. Wow! Solow almost makes it 4-2 but put it post and out on the yawning cage. Still 3-2 NU.
  12. Solow makes it 3-2! Northeastern with their first lead of the game!
  13. Madden’s goal: And McDonough scored to make it 2-2. On TSN5 RIGHT NOW!!! (Shaw 215)
  14. Huge goal by McDonough to tie the Beanpot final 2-2. (It’s on TSN5 Shaw215 right now!!!)
  15. A little late but here’s a good highlight vid of Lockwood’s game winning goal from game one of the two game split versus top rivals Ohio State over the weekend:
  16. I’m recording it. Will try to watch live, depending on how my afternoon goes, and if I can free up some time. Otherwise, I’ll be watching it later tonight.
  17. Just for those looking for viewing info: the Beanpot is on TSN2 (Shaw 212) today at 2pm, Northeastern (Tyler Madden, Aidan McDonough) vs Harvard (Jack Rathbone). EDIT: also on NHL Network, NESN, and TSN Go
