  1. Wonder if Tryamkin will be posting about how the Canucks did his buddy Kolya wrong by waiving him and assigning him to Utica? I seem to remember Nik posting something expressing his displeasure with Canucks brass the last time Goldobin got sent down.
  2. Yup. Recall waivers were eliminated from the CBA. Players can be freely called up, and they have an exemption from waivers until they play 10 games or spend 30 days on the NHL roster.
  3. I have a large, but always shrinking, collection. Had to pare down over the last few moves and life changes. I used to be a big collector. Also DJ’ed a bit and did some radio shows back in the day. Since the kids, not so much. I think I’m actually down to about a dozen crates now. Most are stashed away in the crawlspace and I rotate a couple crates out every once in a while. Used to basically need to keep an extra bedroom for storing all my vinyl and gear, but that was back in the good ole days. I’m so out of the loop now as to where the best spots are for digging. Can’t really offer any advice. As for what I have now, I’ve sold and donated a fair amount, but kept most of my favourite new stuff (well, what were new releases in the ‘90s and 2000s). Also kept some of my best used finds, especially those that were rare or mint. Still have some really nice first pressings of early Bowie, Roxy Music, Sabbath, and others. Used to spend most weekends going around the used bins, thrift stores, garage sales, and wherever else I could dig up stuff, but that was many years ago.
  4. Well done JB and company. Credit where credit is due. They just snuck some quality depth through waivers. And in the process, they also massaged the cap within $167K of the upper limit, allowing for close to max LTIR on Roussel.
  5. Haha, I was like “Raptis report?” WTH is that? Thought for a minute that autocorrect had really messed up the word “prospects.”
  6. Plus we have “indefinite” rights on him. If he ever pans out, we can sign him to a deal. AFAIK, he would need to sign a deal with a team in a transfer agreement league for our rights to eventually expire and for him to become a free agent. So long as he’s in Russia, we own his draft rights basically forever.
  7. Flames adding “quality depth signings” that rival the Leafs!
  8. Claim Frederick “Freddy Hockey” Gaudreau while we’re at it?
  9. You are. From the CBA: 13.11 No Loans to East Coast Hockey League. A Player who is not in the Entry Level System may not be Loaned to the East Coast Hockey League without his consent.
  10. So, according to Cap Friendly, we’re $1.72M over the cap with 16 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies, and Gaudette and Brisebois as “non-roster” players. I’m gonna take a stab at what they should do for the start of this season. Demote Brisebois, paper Gaudette, waive and demote Schaller, waive and paper Biega, and that puts us around 100K under the cap to maximize LTIR on Roussel. Transfer Roussel to LTIR, Boeser and Fantenberg go on IR, recall Gaudette and Biega. Schaller stays in Utica. Eriksson stays in Vancouver (for the time being). Roster: F (14): Eriksson, Horvat, Miller, Sutter, Pearson, Ferland, Baertschi, Beagle, Leivo, Virtanen, Motte, Pettersson, Gaudette, Goldobin D (7): Edler, Myers, Tanev, Stecher, Benn, Hughes, Biega G (2): Markstrom, Demko IR: Boeser, Fantenberg LTIR: Roussel
  11. A bit of a shame because during 2017-18 and the first half of 2018-19, it seemed like he got much more offensive opportunities. And he looked good several times I watched him, either in power play or with top forward lines at 5v5. A couple games I’d have rated him their best offensive D (and one of the best on defense as well). I get that offense isn’t necessarily his forte and that part of development is often specialization, but I’d have hoped he’d continue to get offensive looks and build more of a 2-way game over there than just a shutdown/matchup/PK role. Not that there’s anything wrong with a hulking defensive specialist Dman. Just feel like Tryamkin has more tools than that.
  12. It’s fairly common in Europe. I’ve seen prospects in several of the elite leagues get similar treatment. Play a few minutes per game or just sit in the top league, get sent down to tier 2 for a game or two, then back up to the elite league to ride the bench, then down to the junior league for a couple games, and around and around it goes. Not a big deal for a few weeks/months, or even a whole rookie season (on the elite league roster). Different story if it’s continuing for two or three straight years (see: Lukas Jasek’s adventures in the Czech system), but hopefully Pod doesn’t end up getting that kind of treatment. I think SKA is legitimately trying to develop him the right way, but also balancing their desire to ice a winning lineup in the KHL. In some ways, it’s a positive that they’ve chosen to keep Podkolzin around, even at his young age (which is certainly a rarity in the KHL), versus just demoting him for the season.
  13. Yeah, all three teams are part of the SKA organization and play in St. Petersburg. Basically, think of it like this: KHL=NHL, VHL=AHL, and MHL=major junior/u20.
  14. I’m pretty confident Rathbone will sign (assuming he’s offered a contract). He’s made a number of statements since being drafted that demonstrate his commitment to Vancouver. He’s a very loyal and high character individual and he’s already shown that he feels obligated to reward organizations that take a chance on him (like Dexter). He’s really the last person I’d ever expect to hold out for college free agency. Assuming he continues to develop well, he’ll be a Canuck when he’s ready to turn pro.
  15. Yeah, for those who don’t know the story (from 2017 article): https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.bostonherald.com/2017/06/15/west-roxbury-nhl-prospect-jack-rathbone-has-priorities-in-right-place/amp/ So, if you didn’t already love Jack Rathbone, you do now.
  16. AFAIK: Expansion teams are free to negotiate with any unsigned RFAs and UFAs that meet the exposure requirements. If they can reach a deal with any unprotected RFA during the signing window phase, that contract becomes their expansion draft choice from the team that owned the rights on that player. EDIT: This is off memory and I haven’t checked since the last draft. I could be remembering wrong. I know there is a window for expansion teams to sign free agents, and any such signings become their picks. Not sure about the exact procedures. EDIT2: It’s called the “exclusive negotiating window” and lasts 48 hours. The expansion team may negotiate with all pending free agents, ahead of July 1st (and before the expansion draft), and if they reach an agreement with a player, they forfeit their expansion draft pick from the team that previously held rights on that player.
  17. Counts as two pro years, so he’s expansion draft eligible. Even if he’s still not under contract, Seattle would be eligible to negotiate with him as part of the expansion draft’s free agent window, and if they reached an agreement, that contract would count as an expansion draft pick. Doesn’t really matter though, as I doubt Tryamkin will be the guy we lose in the expansion draft. We’ll have other players exposed that will be considered much “safer” picks for Seattle.
  18. Trading Jake is such a bad idea. Thankfully, I expect it’s one that only media types really entertain. I doubt management is considering it, barring some outrageous overpayment offer. At this point, the team has invested so much time, energy, and assets (as in the pick itself) in Virtanen, and it’s highly unlikely they can ever really recoup what they put in. Better to just stay the course and keep working with Jake until he realizes his potential. He’s likely never going to be the top-6 scoring winger they hoped they’d drafted. But he can be a really useful and valuable player still, and of a rare variety that can be a significant impact player in a 3rd line role. Maybe not the result you want from a 6th overall pick, but nonetheless a valuable piece on any roster, and one that not every team has (but that most covet). I still see Jake becoming a key role player on a Cup contending (and winning hopefully) team one day.
  19. I’m really excited for his upcoming season in Utica. Have a feeling this will be the year he really settles in completely and starts to truly establish himself as a player in North American pro. Hoping to see Jašek get a regular role in the Comets middle six, build chemistry with some regular linemates, and hopefully some consistent power play opportunities. He also talked recently about hoping to earn the coaches’ trust and getting some PK time, which is an area where I’ve always believed he had real potential. I still think a Jannik Hansen type of career is possible for Jašek. He just needs to continue to work his butt off, play bigger than his size, compete hard at both ends of the ice, and then let his skill set shine through whenever he gets opportunities to score. Obviously I’ve been in this kid’s corner from day one, but he’s really starting to show why I had such belief in him early on. Still a ways to go, but I continue to believe we’ll see him play in the NHL one day, and possibly for quite a few years, if he continues to grow and develop along the trajectory he’s been on for the past few years. Most of all though, I just like seeing other people finally appreciating his game. I don’t have to talk to myself for pages and pages in the Jašek thread anymore. Now other people pump his tires. Makes me happy. My boy has done me proud.
  20. I would’ve loved to have seen that goal live but unfortunately had plans tonight and missed the game. Just catching up on the highlights now. Looks like he had another solid outing. Now up to 1G 1A in 2 preseason games.
  21. “Hey, Ben, uh y’know, you’re really like being an ******* and stuff right now.”
  22. Nah, that was the wrong Hughes. Jack defected from New Jersey and is coming to play with Quinn in Vancouver.
  23. Thought you’d say you’re filling the front of your pants, but to each his own, I suppose.
  24. Edit: @hammertime asked for highlights Oh and here’s the Eliot goal too:
  25. No points for Podkolzin in that VHL game, but he had 4 SOG, and a late penalty (2 PIM) for elbowing.
