I think the biggest issue with HFBoards Canucks is a pack of very active users who are extremely anti-regime and they tend to dominate the board. And to make matters worse, the mods over there seem to be part of that clique. There are plenty of users with reasonable opinions, but they tend to get shouted down, and the mods just let it happen.

Pretty good company, for our prospects making that list. EDIT: see previous page

He has much better wheels than Granlund, but I agree with the comparison in terms of his versatility, both positional and role.

Says a lot about Hughes or the current state of our defence? Mostly kidding. Hughes would be the best skating defenceman on a lot of teams. He’s that good. But our defence definitely needs some work.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Supersmurfs are a whole different animal. -
I think it’s just that the 3-on-3 is new. They play a five minute 5v5 OT, which traditionally was how games ended. If tied, it was just scored a tie. Now they continue to 3v3 for 5 minutes and play for an extra point (and shootout after if still tied). I’d expect they’ll eventually adopt 3-on-3 fully and count the points scored, but they’re just experimenting with the format right now. In any case, Hughes is deadly in 3-on-3 because he has so much space to work with and he combines elite skating, a high degree of escapability, and superior playmaking, making him a constant threat when he’s out. The points he picks up might not pad his totals, but the experience of playing those 3v3 OTs is certainly preparing him for the extra frame at the pro level.
-
Oh man, I want Hughes here now. That cheeky bank pass to set up to breakaway winner in 3-on-3 OT: Hughes had 2 assists in the 3-2 win, but only one will count officially as 3-on-3 OT points don’t get credited to season scoring stats (NCAA quirk).

One assist tonight. Now 17 points in 25 games.
-
Another assist already for Woo tonight, with lots of game left to play.

Lol, yeah it’s the “Battle of the Ottawa River” series between Ottawa (OHL) and Gatineau (QMJHL). Here’s Mikey pregame:
-
Yeah, I still think he might’ve tweaked something that game a while back when he went down and came up clutching his arm. Didn’t really miss much time, but since then, his shot volume is way down, and he hasn’t scored as much. So maybe he’s was playing a bit hurt and, if it was his arm that was banged up, that could easily affect his offence. Also, they have Vallati who can step right in on PP1, and a much deeper overall D group this year. Gross has been on first pairing and Brassard has played 2nd pairing (at least the past while). And he’s switched between 1PP and 2PP, while last year he’d practically play the full 2 minutes on the man advantage.
-
Brassard with 1 assist, +1, 2 SOG, and 4 PIM tonight. Now at 16 points (6G 10A) in 24 games.

I think you’re right on the money that McEneny “looks like an NHL player,” at least when he’s healthy and settled into midseason form. I’d love to see him avoid any further injuries and possibly get a late season call up, after we move some expiring contracts at the TDL. I think given the opportunity, and if he can stay healthy, he could prove himself to be a good option for us as a third pairing/depth D at the NHL level.
-
Another two assists in tonight’s loss, and now 9 points in his last 10 games.
-
Hopefully we hang onto him. I could see Judd getting poached one day for a management gig.

It’s a few pages back. I think this is the first post I wrote on Leason:
-
That’s gonna be a huge haul if Ottawa pays Windsor’s asking price. Last I heard, the ask was something like 9 picks plus a top player. EDIT: Ottawa will be scary with DiPietro. They’re already top dogs in the OHL, with a 0.828 win percentage and the highest goals for in the league. Add the best goalie to that mix and they’re definitely going to be favourites to win it all.
-
Have to draft him first, but I’m certainly not opposed to the idea (wrote a couple long posts on Leason in the draft thread).
-
DiPietro saved 24/25 as the Spits beat the Gens 4-1. Matt Brassard sat out for Oshawa as the overager scratch (they started Ceci in net and had to rotate one of their overagers out of the lineup). DiPietro picks up his 11th win to improve to 11-8, with a 2.320 GAA and 0.920 SV%, and one shutout on the season. Glad Brassard sat out, so I didn’t have to pick favourites. But he’s been struggling lately to score, with Vallati taking over prime offensive D duties. Hopefully he’s back in next game and putting up points (just not against Mikey D).
-
That should be interesting. He’s been in the Frölunda system a long time, which can be good and bad. Good in that there can be loyalty and value based on the time a team has invested in a player. Bad because players can sometimes get pigeonholed into roles and somewhat limited in what their coaches believe they’re capable of. Hopefully the move means he’ll get to play more, but we’ll see what happens. If nothing else, he has a whole new set of team training records to smash.
-
Matt Thiessen picks up his 5th win (finally) as he saves 22/23 and enjoys some solid “run support.” Dubuque wins 7-1. Thiessen is now 5W 6L on the season, with a 3.27 GAA and 0.882 SV%.

So I guess this game will end in a 1-1 tie. Hughes with one assist. They’ll play 3-on-3 for a 2nd OT (and shootout if needed) for an extra point in the standings, but the game still gets scored a tie, and any goals scored in 2OT don’t count in the stats (weird NCAA). Typical Michigan game for this season. Outshot and outchanced MSU, dominated possession, and only came away with a tie. At least the goalie didn’t let them down this time. But Michigan led 76-40 in shot attempts and 36-18 in SOG, and still only one goal scored through 65 minutes. I can only imagine how many assists Hughes would have if his forwards were converting at a higher rate this season. EDIT: headed to shootout (Hughes and Lockwood failed on their attempts) And MSU takes the extra point in the fourth round of the shootout. Final tallies after 2OT: shot attempts: 80-42, shots on goal: 40-19 Shame that Michigan doesn’t get more on the scoreboard the way the tend to dominate games. But that’s no fault of Hughes.
