Palmu adds an assist (secondary on TPS’s 5th goal) to finish with a three point game (2G 1A). That should give him 27 points (13G 14A) in 46 Liiga games this season.

Yeah, I see the same potential in Gaunce. Like he says, he’s now established himself as a player who can be “trusted defensively,” which carved out a niche for him as a 4th liner. People talk about hockey being a results-based business, and criticize Gaunce for not getting results on then scoresheet. But the article makes great points about how Gaunce is actually getting excellent results out of his deployment. Heavy Dzone starts and he’s still the best goals-against suppressor on the team. Avoids danger, prevents chances, clears the zone, moves the puck in the right direction—that’s valuable to any team. Of course to move up in the lineup, he’ll need to work on the other aspects of his game that he mentions, but he’s shown offensive upside at the lower levels, and he’s definitely not afraid of hard work, so I still believe he can get there (eventually becoming a really solid 3rd liner). Also, can I just say what a joy it is to hear Gaunce talk about the game? Such a smart player. He never disappoints with his comments and observations. I’ve said it before, but I really believe this kid has a career in coaching ahead of him, if that’s something he wants when his playing days are over.

Finnish speakers, please translate: Twitter translation says “dropped from the configuration” which sounds like healthy scratch, but hard to say.

Palmu with two goals so far today, his 12th and 13th of the season. Third period just started, TPS vs Lukko.

Gonna comment on the dust-up in this thread from earlier today (I guess yesterday now), but I’ll hide my thoughts inside a spoiler (since this is the Pettersson thread after all). -
Conditional pick. If the Sens 2018 1st is top-10, they keep it and give Colorado their 2019 1st.

For anyone who missed it, PITB had a feature on Gaunce that’s worth the read: http://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/brendan-gaunce-wants-to-be-irreplaceable-1.23155184 Some key excerpts: Here’s the thing about Gaunce: he plays a role in which no one expects offence. He has only been on the ice for 31 offensive zone faceoffs. “That many?” Gaunce exclaims when I mention the number, laughing. He’s well aware that he doesn’t get many offensive opportunities. “It’s hard to create offence in the league and so you do things for your team to win,” he adds, explaining that sometimes his job in the offensive zone is simply to get a long shot on net to create an offensive zone faceoff of which another line can take advantage. “You can’t cheat in terms of trying to create offence when you’re job is to start in your own zone and take draws,” he says. “Sometimes you don’t stand out in a positive way, because you’re not on the good side of bounces.” “The biggest thing for a guy that’s in that kind of a role is detailed hockey,” he adds. “It’s definitely a different role and it’s something that if you’re going to do, you have to take pride in the role you’re given.” On the defensive side of the puck, players need to be able to rely on one another. It’s not just that one player making a defensive mistake causes a breakdown. “That’s part of it,” says Gaunce, “but if you’re playing a detailed game and someone does have a breakdown, you’re in the right spot to help them out. That, a lot of the time, goes unnoticed as well.” “It’s trusting your teammates, that if you go to be aggressive and misread something, that the other four guys are going to make up for it,” he adds. So far this season, Gaunce’s teammates have been able to rely on him. No one on the Canucks has been on the ice for a lower rate of goals against than Gaunce. At 5-on-5, Gaunce has been on the ice for 1.58 goals against per hour. The next closest player is Bo Horvat, at 1.88 goals against per hour. “The path that I’m trying to go down is to be trusted defensively, which I think I have established that I am now,” he says. “I just want to be adding little parts to the game where there’s times that you can think offensively and think to score and create offence and be on that side of the puck.” When asked what he needs to work on to get back into the lineup and stay there, he says he needs to “play a confident game, be aggressive all over the ice” and “be someone that’s irreplaceable.”

Yeah, it’s definitely the kind of “problem” you like to have. They could be deadly together (like the configuration you’re hinting at) or provide RH shooting options on two separate power play units. I was just thinking about how good Gaudette has been in “his office” and I honestly can’t say who I’d prefer (between Boes and Gaud) taking shots from that spot. I suppose the “why not both” girl has the answer I’m looking for.

Another assist tonight. Brassard now has 31 points (11G 20A) in 46 games.
-
He’s scored so many goals from that spot and he’s gonna score a bunch more from there as a pro. Only question is how Gaudette and Boeser will share “office space.”

Gaudette with the primary assist on the Davies power play goal. Tied 1-1 after 1.

It’s bugging me now because I can’t track down the quote. But I remember Lind saying sometime in the last few weeks that he believes he could slot in at LW/C/RW, wherever needed, and be comfortable and effective. Here’s something similar from the summer but it’s not the quote I’m thinking of: What I remember is somebody asking Lind where he sees himself playing as a pro and he basically said any of the three forward positions and that he’s totally comfortable on either wing or down the middle. Seems that he prides himself on his versatility and his understanding of the different forward positions and what’s required to be successful at each of them. EDIT: it’s interesting because when you look at Lind, he’s really lean and definitely has some filling out to do. But when you think about him possibly topping out around 6’2” and 200+ lbs, and with his skill set, it’s not completely outrageous to imagine him having the potential to be pretty great as a centreman. Which would be pretty interesting, given he already looks like a steal, and if he had been drafted as a centre, he’s have easily jumped much higher in the rankings (given how teams value C vs W).

Looks like Gaudette’s game (7pm EST) will be free streaming on the GoNU portal. I’ll come back and update when the direct link is available. EDIT: ESPN3 broadcast so stream won’t be available (unless you go to the dark side and use one of those services I’m not allowed to link here)

Just a bit of a side point, with all the centre talk, but didn’t Lind say recently that he sees himself as being able to play all three forward positions? Not suggesting we look to convert him. He’s really great on the wing. Just more speaking to the depth of young hybrid forwards we have in the pipeline, with Pettersson, Gaudette, Lind, Dahlén, etc all potentially being C/W types.

Could backfire. We all start wearing Avto jerseys and Aquilini decides to move the team to Yekaterinburg! I’m of Nordic descent, so I don’t mind the cold. But I’d still prefer not to have to brave -40 temperatures to get to the rink for Canucks games.

Jack Rathbone | #3 | D
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME replied to Tomato Pajamas's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Dhaliwal being Dhaliwal. Gets the interview with the mystery man. Glad to read Rathbone is hitting the gym hard and working on his strength. Also good to finally get the scoop on his injury. Early reports were just a “tweak” so I was surprised when he missed so many games. Hairline fracture to his knee cap makes more sense and fits the timeline for how long he was out. And Kris Letang is a nice comparable. Wouldn’t mind adding a player like that to the lineup in a few years.- 3,880 replies

Glad you said it. I saw that “give D a chance” post and told myself, “I’m not making a joke, I’m not making a joke, I’m not making a joke...”

Rare win for Timrå today without Dahlén contributing to the scoring. 3-2 in the shootout. No points for Dahlén and he missed his shootout attempt. Dahlén had 6 shot attempts, 3 on goal, 2 blocked, and one sent wide. He was the team high in TOI, playing over 21 minutes total.

Jašek’s points streak ends at 3 games. Didn’t score today but had some good chances, just couldn’t beat the goalie. Played around 14 minutes including over 4 minutes on the PP. Liberec continues their winning ways with a 3-0 victory. Lakatoš-Redenbach-Jašek remains intact. They are the 3rd line at evens and seem to stay together for the most part as the second power play unit. Hopefully they continue to work well and that line stays together for a while, because it seems to be a good fit.
