  1. Now the scoreboard reads JYP 6-1 TPS. Neither Juolevi nor Palmu figured in the goal for. Not sure how many minuses they each have from the goals against. Side note: 17yo (2019 eligible) Anttoni Honka has an assist today for JYP and is currently sitting at 9 points in 15 games. Pretty close to what Heiskanen and Juolevi are producing in terms of points/game and probably the best D-1 production by a Liiga defenseman in a generation or two.
  2. Not sure. But they’re definitely in a bit of a crisis now, after the first period. Already down 4-0 to JYP. EDIT: maybe @Jasin23 meant the standings? TPS has lost quite a bit of ground to 1st place Kärpät at the top of the table, and Tappara and JYP are within striking distance of bumping TPS out of 2nd place. Definitely not looking as secure at the top of the Liiga standings compared to earlier this season.
  3. https://canucksarmy.com/2018/01/25/ben-hutton-is-clearly-superior-to-michael-del-zotto-why-doesnt-his-deployment-reflect-that/ Pretty interesting stuff. The stats definitely show Hutton outperforming Del Zotto. Not that this is really surprising. Perhaps more interesting:
  4. I guess if Tryamkin really wanted to make the Olympic team, he would’ve needed to request a trade to CSKA, SKA, or Metallurg.
  5. Thanks! That makes sense. I’d just assumed he’d gotten a touch in when he was initially credited with the only assist. I was mostly kidding anyway (about Dahlén getting cheated). I’m can’t say I’m really all that concerned about him losing a point here or there. He’s done more than enough this season to prove his value.
  6. Looks like they took away Dahlén’s assist on the EN goal. Just vanished from the online scoresheet when I refreshed the page. So 1G 1A today and tied for HockeyAllsvenskan lead with 37 points. That’s the 2nd time recently where he’s been cheated out of an assist. Good thing he doesn’t need the points.
  7. Dahlén adds an assist. Timrå gives up a late PP goal that ties the game at 1-1 with 4:17 remaining. 15 seconds later, Dahlén assists on a goal to retake the lead 2-1. EDIT: And he adds another assist to help Timrå seal it with an empty netter. 3-1 final. Dahlén finishes with 1 goal and 2 assists.
  8. Longer look at the goal: That puck movement. And of course, they’re loving Dahlén in Timrå: “Mannen, myten, legenden.” Jonathan Dahlén: the man, the myth, the legend.
  9. Yeah, I’ve seen credible sources suggest Rathbone could’ve been as high as a first round pick if he’d been playing in one of the more prestigious junior leagues. And pretty much every time I’ve heard somebody familiar with New England prep/highschool hockey talk about him, it’s been a big gushfest about how talented he is and the huge upside/potential he has.
  10. Big Nik is one step closer to the Olympics:
  11. Here’s a little crowd celebration action (and the obligatory high five skate by) after Jašek’s goal made it a 5-2 lead:
  12. Did anyone notice how much Juolevi played in the 3rd? I was following Jašek’s Extraliga game and was just checking the Liiga scoreboard periodically, so I didn’t notice if he was playing late into the game. Just noticed that Olli finished with only around 12 minutes TOI. TPS did go with 7 Ds, so that might have cut his icetime, but 12 minutes still seems a bit low given he’d scored and been pretty active early on. Just hoping he wasn’t banged up and held out during the final 20.
  13. Okay, just watched the final minutes to make sure. Note: full game vid available here: http://hokej.cz/zapas/2524529/video Assist was Redenbach (#90). The online play by play guy must’ve mistaken Jašek (#40) for #90. Plus Jašek was super active in the play leading up to the goal (and also drew the penalty for the late power play). So 1 goal and 1 assist today. 4 goals and 3 assists in last 3 games.
  14. Jašek adds a late goal, making today his third multipoint game in a row! 4G 3A in his last 3 Extraliga games. EDIT: spoke too soon! Jašek wasn’t done. Just added an assist! So 1G 2A today. And 4G 4A and 8 points in last 3 GP. EDIT2: now some disagreement between the play by play and the live stats on whether Jasek got that last assist... I’ll update once the official scoresheet is available Here’s the goal today:
  15. Jašek keeping his scoring streak rolling. Has one assist (his 9th) so far in today’s game.
  16. Liiga.fi game page: http://liiga.fi/ottelut/2017-2018/runkosarja/336/seuranta/ Bottom of page has shot chart and it’s sortable by player.
  17. Juolevi’s shot chart after 40 minutes (darker blue dot is the goal): He’s currently leading all skaters with 6 shots.
  18. It’s definitely a nice clip. Love the way he doesn’t break stride but just keeps skating, reaches back to tip to puck (the pass is a little behind him) ahead into his path, does a quick two step burst to create extra separation, and then just glides in clean for the slick finish. That goal really showcases his skating ability.
  19. Here’s another clip that shows Olli’s end to end rush that led to his goal: And yes, @Alflives, you may very well be right on that timeline. Juolevi definitely looks close to NHL ready and I think he’ll have a pretty immediate impact once he joins this team. EDIT: also should note that the 1st assist goes to Petrus Palmu. He does a real nice job gloving down that high flip at the point, keeping control and onside, and sending the puck back to Olli in the faceoff circle for the PP snipe.
  20. Juolevi currently playing and has the game’s opening goal (his 6th of the season):
  21. Canucks Army generally does a preliminary, midterm, and final ranking every year. They don’t do a pure “analytics” ranking any more, but rather they synthesize the data from a few analytics models, the consensus rankings, scouting reports, and the eye test info from their own viewings. Here’s their most recent 2018 draft rankings (December): https://canucksarmy.com/2017/12/22/2018-nhl-draft-winter-rankings/ And here are their final rankings from 2017 and 2016: https://canucksarmy.com/2017/06/22/canucks-armys-final-top-100-2017-nhl-draft-rankings/ https://canucksarmy.com/2016/06/23/the-nation-network-top-60-draft-profile-overview-and-summaries/ EDIT: For a pure analytics ranking, we’ll have to wait until the final SEAL adjusted numbers come out. Or maybe Jeremy Davis will post a pGPS ranking (but he doesn’t seem to do this as much anymore but rather chooses to list pGPS a just one column in the chart showing data for his rankings). Worth noting that not even the most enthusiastic fancy stats geek would use any single model (on its own) to determine a final draft order.
  22. Especially since he only had 8 points in his first 24 games and zero goals despite being one of the top volume shooting Ds in the OHL. Since then, he’s had 22 points (11G 11A) in his last 21 games.
  23. Been pretty quiet in here so I figured I’d post a highlight, even though it’s from a couple weeks back: Gunnarsson (#6 White) is the one who crushes the player into the boards, waits for the retaliatory crowd, starts mucking it up in the scrum, and then pulls one opponent out and just beats him down.
