Another NU powerplay, another goal. Sikura from Gaudette. Took the big unit 14 seconds to convert. Gaudette with a goal and 2 apples. Sikura with 2G 2A. Gaud those two are deadly together, especially on the power play.
-
Goal and an assist for Gaudette through 1 period. Northeastern leads 3-0 and Adam was on the ice for all three goals-for. EDIT: all three first period goals were scored on the man advantage by NU’s top unit. Gaudette’s goal came on a 5-on-3, which are pretty much automatic goals for NU with the big three of Gaudette, Sikura, and Stevens playing up front. Gaudette went bar down from just inside the slot. Basically one of those goals we’ve seen from him a whackload of times before. But still a nice highlight and I’ll try to post a gif when one comes available. NU scored another early in the 2nd (Adam wasn’t involved in that one) and now leads 4-0

So for the stream, through TSN.ca, go here: https://www.tsn.ca/live#/TSN1 Then find the game listed in the “bonus” section. You might need to use a sign-in partner (like your cable/sat provider). Also can use TSN Go, if you’re already setup for that.
-
You are correct. Thank you. The original scoring summary didn’t have him credited with the 2nd assist on the 2-0 goal but it has been updated now.
-
I think Gaudette’s game today, Northeastern at Boston College (4pm start Vancouver time), will be streaming on TSN.ca and the TSN Go app. I’ll try to find a link later. Also pretty sure it’s gonna be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Palmu just scored an early goal one minute into TPS’s game vs Ässät. That should be his 8th goal on the season. And TPS just scored again (no points for our guys on the 2-0 goal). Crazy start for TPS. 2-0 in the first three minutes and shots are 10-0.

^^Cheers! Busy day for watching our European prospects. Elias Pettersson and Växjö will be playing pretty soon against Örebro and Rodrigo Abols. Game starts around 9am here in Vancouver (18:00 local start). Also in action today: Kristoffer Gunnarsson already playing this morning as Frölunda currently leads Mora by a 1-0 score early in the 3rd period. Jonathan Dahlén and Timrå play Björklöven starting around 9am. Olli Juolevi and Petrus Palmu will both be in action starting around 8:30am as TPS plays Ässät. Tryamkin and Avtomobilist just finished up their game a little while ago with a 3-2 win versus Avangard. And Zhukenov and Omskie Yastreby (MHL) will be playing a game starting at 11:00pm tonight (technically tomorrow afternoon at the local game time). -
Worth noting that Brassard now has 9 points (3G 6A) in his last 10 games (and 7 points in his last 6 games). Hopefully he's finally heating up and he finishes this season strong. He’d been doing a lot of the right things from the start, including putting up a tonne of shots (97 SOG), but hadn’t been getting the results until recently.
-
Good to see Brassard finally lighting the lamp. He deserves a few more and hopefully they keep coming.

I’d say so. I mean, he’s never going to be described as “rugged” or “punishing” but he does play more a more physically engaged game than he used to. Definitely you can see his added strength (coupled with good balance and a strong base) in the way he’s able at times to physically control guys, when it comes to using his body to steer them off, ride guys into the boards, press them to the glass, or go body to body and push a guy off the puck. His game remains more about positioning, angles, reads, and a good stick, so he does most of his best defensive work away from any real body contact. But he engages when needed. And I have seen him battle hard in close quarters. And even put a few guys on their butts when it’s been called for. All in all, I’d say it’s coming along, as far as him playing a more mature game that includes some physicality. Not that it’s becoming a staple of his bread and butter game, but it’s increasingly present, and has been noticeable at times.

Feeling a bit of the holiday cheer (or maybe it’s just the magic of the Pettersson thread) and decided to buy everyone a round. Beers for everyone! Also, I’m curious if the hydration rep button is infinite because I’ve hit 15 pages already and still haven’t run out of beers. EDIT: alright, I’m capping this thing at 50 pages of beers. Sorry if I missed anyone. Just seemed like handing out any more free beer in this community would be irresponsible. Plus, the purpose of this whole thing was to randomly celebrate Pettersson while finding out if beer rep was infinite (appears so). Feel like I’ve accomplished the first one and I don’t need to risk carpal tunnel for a definitive answer on the second. -

Latecomers are welcome. Although the seats are quickly filling up. -
No points, 2 SOG, and a -1 for Jašek today in just over 9 minutes of icetime. He remains stranded at 9 points through 28 games. After some early production and various stints in Liberec’s top-6, Jašek is seeing his opportunities dry up this season. Liberec is going with a veteran heavy top-6 that often plays 45 minutes out of each 60. And the first unit is getting 75% of the PPTOI. So he’s left fighting for scraps right now. Of course, the opportunities are there if he starts making more out of his limited minutes. But lately, he hasn’t really shown the ability to impose his will on the game, and at this level, you’d hope he could (if he’s going to show NHL grade talent). He’s also been pretty snakebitten and when he does have good moments, unfortunately he hasn’t been able to see them through to the back of the net. That all said, he remains effective on the checking line and works hard during limited minutes. I’d just like to see him converting some chances because I’m pretty sure he could work his way back into top-6 minutes and some first unit PP looks if he was putting up points/minute numbers like he was during the beginning of this season. Maybe a big game in leg#2 of the Champions League quarters will get him back on track offensively. Here’s hoping.

Juolevi tasked today with playing the right side on the second pairing with Martin Berger (an undrafted, 21yo, 10 minutes TOI/G player in Liiga). Pretty big ask, but really shows the trust the coaches have for Olli as TPS deals with injuries to Tallinder and Eronen (two of their top Ds). So far, 1-1 through one period, and no points yet for Juolevi. EDIT: game ends with a 4-3 TPS win No points for Juolevi but he was solid in the portions of this game I saw. Broke up some dangerous plays in his own end. And moved the puck well on offense. Got caught for two early goals against, but as I read those plays, more of the blame fell on his D partner (Berger) than on Olli. Also earned back a couple pluses on the 3rd and 4th (GW) goals, and probably could have had a “3rd assist” on one of them. All in all, not a bad outing, and helped TPS eke out a win today despite a depleted defense.
-
One assist today playing first line LW for Omskie Yastreby (MHL).
-
Makes sense. Just strange it’s not coming up on the KHL website with the other suspensions this week. I kinda forgot about that 5+20 penalty (for offensive gestures) he got earlier in the year. Last game was his second 5+20 penalty of the season, which I believe triggers an automatic 1 game suspension.
-
So Tryamkin didn’t play in Avto’s game today. Not sure why. Maybe the match penalty last game triggered a suspension (although I haven’t seen anything to this effect from the KHL’s disciplinary body). Or maybe injured?

Can’t say I was watching a tonne of Swedish hockey in the 1970s, but Uffe Bodin (Hockeysverige’s editor-in-chief) recently mentioned that teams in that era were often scoring 10 goals per game, so in his opinion, Elias’s current scoring rate is already more impressive than Nilsson’s at the same age. It'd just be amazing to see the kid take over the all time U20 records, regardless of era. And thereby lay down a claim to the most dominant U20 season in the history of Swedish hockey (and without any kind of asterisk). -

Getting closer... Elias is currently at 1.4 points per game but he has been scoring at around 1.8 points per game for his last 10-15 games. If he maintains that kind of pace, he’ll pass Nilsson’s 1.5 points per game (the all time best SHL U20 scoring rate) in 10 more games. And he’s on pace (if he stays at around 1.8 points per game) to set a new record for total points (SHL U20) in 11 more games. -

Could be strategic for the opponent. Färjestad are a very good team and so Växjö might want to spread out the scoring and try to avoid certain matchups. Or it could be about limiting minutes, if Pettersson has some lingering effects from his minor injury. It’s not the first time they’ve slotted him into the second line for a game this season. -

Yeah, he’s listed in the lineup too (on SHL.se) so looks like he's gonna be fine. EDIT: Lineup posted on Växjö’s Twitter (he’s 2LW): -
Don’t give Putin any ideas.
