  1. Uh oh, this isn’t sounding good. EDIT: Not sure if Zanier (if indeed this account is from the former player and current analyst) is a solid source or if this is just a hot take. Official word is just lower body, day-to-day, and sounds more precautionary (for now anyway):
  2. Maybe sooner? IOC bans Russia, KHL responds by banning its players from Olympics, Tryamkin voids his contact, plays for the “brotherhood without banners” team (OAR status), and then returns to Vancouver for 2018-19. Hey, it could happen.
  3. Hockeysverige’s Mathias Andersson is reporting Pettersson was injured. Sketchy on details. Hopefully nothing serious.
  4. He’s only played around 7 1/2 minutes so far (due to the reasons above). Managed 3 attempts on goal, one was saved, one went wide, and one was blocked.
  5. 21:35 TOI, 3 shots, 1/1 faceoffs for Jašek today in Liberec’s loss (1-0) to ZSC in their home leg of the CHL quarterfinals. The White Tigers will need a strong road game in the next leg if they hope to advance. Jašek earned first line duties for this game. Unfortunately, no detailed report from me this time as I didn’t have a chance to watch more than a few minutes here and there.
  6. Live-streaming on TSN website. Go here: https://www.tsn.ca/tv#/TSN1 Then look for the “bonus” section and there’s a link to the game. EDIT: this will only work on desktop/laptop. For mobile, probably need to use TSN Go app.
  7. Looks like the game (Växjö vs Bern) starts at 11am Vancouver time. Free streams are already available on the CHL website for the earlier quarterfinal starts, so I’d expect there’ll be a stream up for Pettersson’s game once we get a little closer to game time. Jašek and Liberec also play today in their quarterfinal game one starting at 10:15am (versus ZSC).
  8. Big Nik working on his PIM stats as he was assessed 27 minutes in today’s game. Got 5 and a game for “tripping” (which usually means a slew foot) and another 2 for slashing. Avto ended up losing him for the last 5 minutes of regulation and then all of OT, eventually falling 2-1 in the shootout. Despite the penalties, Tryamkin still played 19+ minutes, 4 SOG, 3 blocks, 3 hits, plus those 27 PIM.
  9. So did Stealth come in and just give everybody a timeout?
  10. Speaking of which, why’s the Tryamkin thread locked all of a sudden?
  11. Rough. Guy blows out his knee during his draft season and goes from highly ranked to slipping through undrafted. Now, just as he seemed to be breaking through as a pro, another season ending knee injury. On the positive side, his 2011 injury is what allowed us to sign him in the first place (as an undrafted free agent). Maybe this injury will be what allows us to keep him in the system (as he’ll be less likely to get claimed on waivers next year after losing this season).
  12. Oligarch owners help. Although this does create some instability based on various whims like the global oil market and whoever Putin decides needs poisoning any given week.
  13. Kind of amazing that Yekaterinburg, Russia’s 4th largest city with a population of roughly 1.5 million people, can only draw ~4,200 a night (and that’s in a 5,570 capacity arena).
  14. Dahlén held off the scoresheet as Timrå falls 2-1 to Troja-Ljungby. He had 5 shots on goal (and another 2 shots blocked), his line attempted 14 shots, and he was on-ice for about 20 total team Corsi events, but only one shot (the goal by Dman Jesper Dahlroth) made it past goalie Robin Johansson, who saved 29/30 today.
  15. The Finns contacted the Canucks in October to let them know Juolevi was being considered for their Olympic team. This was before he really started putting up numbers and playing high minutes for TPS, so I’d imagine his chances have only improved. The Finnish roster for the Channel One Cup (which will be kind of a tune-up for the Olympics this year) just came out. Juolevi isn’t on the list. But (as the tweet notes) neither is Heiskanen. Both will be preparing for the WJC before turning their focus to any potential spot on the Olympic Team. There’s been some discussion as to whether or not Juolevi would be eligible, as he’s signed to an NHL contract. But the last statement I read from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly suggests that NHL contracted players currently playing in Europe will not be precluded from participating in the Olympics. However, the NHL has reserved the right to reconsider this ruling at a later date.
  16. I think sometimes we need to remember that, of the elite hockey nations in the world, Russia is about as far away you can get, both geographically and culturally, from the NHL. And that in the KHL, Russian players have potential opportunities and a pay scale that’s unmatched by the professional leagues in most the other top hockey nations. Also, I’d imagine that if Canada had regional professional leagues that offered high salaries and a level of play pretty close to the NHL, plenty of good ol’ Canadian farm boy types would ask for out clauses in their contracts. And if things didn’t go as they’d expected in the NHL, many of those “high character” prairie boys would opt to return to say the “Elite Saskatchewan League” to earn top dollars while playing high level hockey in their home towns.
  17. I posted a reply on this in the Pettersson thread, but there’s a good chance Dahlén decides to stick it out with Timrå, given they’re having such a strong year. He could play a big role in helping them move up to the SHL, which would be a nice parting gift for the team that’s helped develop him the past four years. He could also switch to SHL or AHL sometime in the next few weeks, and by no means have those doors closed. But recent speculation has suggested he might just stay where he is (for the reasons I mentioned above), so long as Timrå continues to roll as the top team in Allsvenskan.
  18. Quite the little shift disturber, isn’t he?
  19. Last I heard (I believe from Uffe Brodin), Dahlén might stick it out with Timrå so long as they stay tops in the Allsvenskan. He has a chance to be part of elevating Timrå to the SHL. And given that he’s spent 4 years with that organization, he probably feels a strong sense of loyalty and might not want to pass up the opportunity (even if it’s not necessarily the best move for his career).
  20. Dahlén playing today. Timrå vs. Troja-Ljungby. 1900 local time (so it should be a 10am Vancouver start—although I just woke up so the time zone portion of my brain might not be working ): http://www.hockeyallsvenskan.se/gamecenter/qTJ-87AI10Uk2d/articles/pre
  21. I just like how it’s an exhibition game against a bunch of 17 year olds from the U18 squad of his own country. And Lockwood is like: there’s a guy carrying the puck and not looking, let me introduce him to the boards, and hard.
  22. 2 year deal IIRC. His contact should end just before his draft rights expire, so the Canucks would have a small window (with exclusive rights) to sign him to an ELC, if he proves himself deserving of one.
  23. Yeah, Allsvenskan isn’t all that far off SHL. In terms of equivalencies, you generally see a conversation factor of 0.8 for the “value” of each Allsvenskan point in the SHL. It would be pretty amazing to see both Pettersson and Dahlén make the Swedish Olympic team. Definitely would make for some tough decisions on who to cheer for (even moreso if some of our other top prospects make other national teams). Should be fun. And as to Dahlén’s 1.38 points per game, using 0.8, that would convert to 1.1 points per game, which would be 5th in the SHL (obviously conversation factors are imperfect and represent an average value, but they nonetheless give a pretty good indication of where Dahlén stands versus the other top players in Sweden this season).
  24. Jašek played 9:37 TOI today at 3RW. No points. 2 shots on goal. 2/3 faceoffs. And 1:18 PPTOI as he saw time back on the 2nd unit power play. 4-3 OT victory for Liberec. This game was all about Bakoš (2G 2A) and Kvapil (1G 3A), who both played north of 22 minutes, and the first unit PP (all the goals came on special teams).
  25. You can get mono twice (or more), although it’s rare, and usually less severe the second time around. I caught mono from my girlfriend at the time when she had a recurrence after an initial infection years previously. She barely got sick. I was wrecked for quite a while. But given how long Lind was out, I’d bet you’re right that his initial diagnosis was a false positive and that this time around was probably his first case.
