At least we picked a busy wire day with a few other claim candidates. Hopefully Gadjovich slips through. -
If they banned for this kinda stuff, I’d have been booted off these boards a long time ago.

I could see that. For me, the first thing that came to mind was Ghirardelli chocolates. Also could a lunch meat like Mortadella. Gambardella definitely sounds like food. Or maybe I’m just hungry? -
Haha, yeah it was fun. “Pie” you say? That’s a tough one. I mean, of course Elias Piettersson, but who else? Hmm… Tanner Pierson Kevin Pieksa Alex Piega Cory Schpieder Doug Wickenpieser Hubert “Pie” Martin

Watched that video and was trying so hard to get the joke, until it dropped right in my lap at the very end. EDIT: My phone screen doesn’t show the full title.

Damn! (or should I say Dham?) Pretty unforgivable omission. Forgot both Hamk and Dhammy.

Ayo! That’s a stereotype, my guy! Don’t label those players as mobsters just because of their names. I’m sure their families earn a respectable living in legitimate businesses… like waste management and construction. -
I didn’t claim it was an exhaustive list! I also forgot a couple famous Russians in Igor Larihamov and Vladhamir Krutov.
-
Dan Hamhuis and Ken Hammond But you’re also forgetting Jannik Hamsen, Erik Gudhamson, Jeff and Steve Hambellini, Brendham Gaunce, Joseph Crhamarossa, and Andrey Pedham.

Fair bet. They need to have a Plan B ready for starting the year without Hamonic, and on paper, the most sensible option right now looks to be OEL-Myers, Hughes-Poolman, [Juolevi/Rathbone/Hunt]-Schenn. It’s a bit of a shame, because OEL-Poolman seems to be working out well, and ideally you’d just continue to let them build their chemistry. But they need to have a partner for Hughes, and neither Myers not Schenn is really a great option. They also need to get OEL-Myers some reps paired together, so they won’t be starting cold, if the season opens without the Hamonic thing resolved, and we have to build the D order without him.

Burroughs? Do we really need him?

Sounds like a frozen pizza, luxury scooter brand, and a type of chocolate. -
I think he wants a bridge and Ottawa has only offered long term deals. At least that’s what I’m seeing around the rumour mill. 8x8 is a lot of money and it’s debatable whether or not Tkachuk has even “earned it,” at least based on his production vs. market comparables (although individual points/scoring rates really doesn’t speak to Tkachuk’s total on-ice value). I suppose from the player’s perspective, he feels that he can make a lot more money over his career if he takes a bridge now, maybe at ~$7M, and then gets paid ~$10M AAV with term on his next deal. It’ll be interesting to see where things end up.

They’re definitely not anywhere near the top tier in D1. I think that program has only had one of their players picked in the NHL draft. Bentley is probably somewhere around 40-50th in the national rankings. Still, just looking at both of McDonough’s goals, those are some pro level finishing skills and scoring instincts he’s showing off, regardless of the quality of competition. He’s really good at anticipating the play and sliding into soft areas. And when opportunities come, he has the high level finishing to really take advantage. And for a pretty big guy, and also a known primary scoring threat who his opponents should be keying on, he seems to find ways to get to open ice, unmarked by defenders, and often inside the high danger scoring areas. -
There’s no doubt he was valued in Utica. Trent Cull always spoke very highly of Jasek, as did other staff. And why wouldn’t they? Jasek was basically “Mr. Everything” for that team: points scoring co-leader, matchup/shutdown centreman, faceoff ace, penalty kill, power play, you name it. And all as a converted centre. In Vancouver, however, I’m not sure the same can be said. Certainly Jasek didn’t feel he was getting the same NHL opportunities as other Comets (and arguably inferior ones at that). Here’s a quote (Google translated) from a Finnish article from this year: “Back in the spring, I thought I’d definitely be close to making my debut in the NHL,” Jasek says. “When it was confirmed that the Canucks would be left out of the playoffs, other Comets dudes were called from Vancouver. I wondered why I wasn't called. I was disappointed and sad when I didn’t get a chance upstairs. I had been in the organization for three years and done everything the way they wanted.” *link (translated) I wouldn’t say he’s been “mistreated” necessarily, but I would stand by my original statement that “he’s been treated by the club as mostly an afterthought, and not really given any indication that the organization considered him a realistic NHL option.” (And I think Jasek would probably agree with me.)

Truscott still showing one assist on the stats feed from Michigan’s 7-1 win tonight but I think they’ll eventually take that away. It’s on the 4-0 goal, which they still have listed as Lambert (from Hughes and Truscott), but it should be Ciccolini’s goal, from Lambert and Hughes (Truscott would have the “third assist”). Anyway, he’ll probably still pick up his fair share of points this season if he stays partnered with Luke Hughes on Michigan’s second pairing.

Lol, I’m gonna do it again: I won’t try to post stuff quicker than Vintage does, but figure people might still enjoy seeing the NU video clips (in addition to Faber’s gifs). -

I tend to agree, when you’re talking our RHD. (Not looking to start any arguments here about Myers ) I think Poolman has looked good enough with OEL that he should be able to hold his own in top-4 minutes this season. And Myers always seems to get 20+ minutes per game, no matter where he’s deployed. But it’s far from ideal. Especially since, without Hamonic here, our current best option for Hughes appears to be Schenn. Unless we put Myers with OEL and Poolman with Hughes. Or roll the dice on Hughes-Myers, but that pairing was pretty ugly last year. We could play somebody on their off side, but knowing Green, this seems unlikely. I just don’t know if there are better options out there, beyond looking at waiver claims for more “3rd pairing” level RHDs, and then hoping they somehow outperform expectations. We could take a run at Demers, and hope he bounces back from last season. He was pretty awful in 2020-21, but he’s only a year removed from being a fairly capable top-4 (albeit with some worts and signs of decline). He might be available on a cheap one year deal and probably provides the closest thing to a safe (aka veteran) stop gap, if Hamonic isn’t here. Otherwise, we’re basically looking to cobble together that right side with unproven/questionable players, and hope that the overall result is greater than the apparent sum of its parts. RHD was always going to be the weak area on this roster. Possibly losing a top-4 RHD in Hamonic, and also RHD depth in Keeper, is definitely not something we can easily compensate for, at least with the current personnel under contract. -

The Canucks should at least consider a claim on Fleury, depending on how they see the Hamonic situation finally playing out. He didn’t play in the NHL last season, but he did manage to get into 41 NHL games in 2019-20, and wasn’t out of place in a third pairing role. Didn’t really create any offence to speak of, but was analytically neutral on 5v5 defence, which is pretty much all you expect from a 3rd pair/spare defender. As for upside, he’s still only 22 years old (turning 23 this season), has good size (6’1”, 211 lbs), and skates rather well. Has a strong two-way toolkit, and still has time and room to develop further. Young, two-way, RHD with size, good wheels, and physical play. Fleury threw over 10 hits per 60 5v5TOI during his 41 games played in the NHL, which is a significantly higher rate than we’re seen from any Canucks defenceman since 2018-19 (when Schenn was last here, and also the “Hitz King” aka MDZ). Could give him a look over the remaining preseason games and see if he’s a fit with one of the LHD lineup regulars. The price is definitely right, as a “free asset” waiver claim, and $750K league minimum salary.- 75 replies

I can’t really think of a good reason why the club wouldn’t confirm it, if Hamonic was vaccinated. They could immediately shut down all the speculation and “antivaxxer” accusations, with one brief press statement. There’s really no downside. If Hamonic is vaxxed, confirm it, and all that noise disappears. The fact that there’s been no such announcement suggests either that (1) Hamonic isn’t vaxxed, or (2) Canucks PR are doing a shockingly terrible job, and choosing to let a media firestorm continue to burn out of control (and greatly damage a player’s reputation in the process), when they could douse it with a single tweet. I find (2) highly unlikely.

Kind of a shame that Jasek isn’t here, because this camp/preseason probably would have been his best opportunity since joining the organization to actually get noticed and change some minds on the coaching staff and in the front office. With Sutter out and Pettersson holding out (until yesterday), we’ve seen some depth/AHL guys getting pretty good opportunities at centre. Have to imagine if Jasek had performed at this year’s Canucks camp the same way he’s been performing in Finland (leading Liiga in scoring while also playing a significant defensive role), he’d be one of the guys getting a look right now. Maybe he’d even be one of the few players Green regularly mentions positively in his pressers. If he was here, Jasek could be making real progress moving up the depth chart, possibly even staking a claim to that relief 4C role, at least until Sutter is ready. Not that I blame him for going overseas, given how he’s been treated by the club as mostly an afterthought, and not really given any indication that the organization considered him a realistic NHL option. It’s just unfortunate that now that the situation has changed, and the Canucks seem to have a bit of an opening (at least temporarily), Jasek isn’t here to compete for the role. I just think he’d probably be making some noise right now, if he was actually here. Oh well. Hopefully he continues to rip it up in Finland. There’s more than one way to get noticed, and leading Liiga in scoring definitely should earn him some attention and NHL consideration for next season.
