  1. uh no player in the league is even close to 2ppg, teemu pullkinen is the top scorer at 1.3ppg. ryan johansen was under a ppg at 21 in the ahl. Taylor hall during the lockout was @ 1.3ppg the ahl is not some scrub league you go too and dominate.
  2. Im not sure how this devolved into a pissing contest over what the definition of a 1C is but the basis for the original definition was 50+points being borderline for a "1C" something Girgensons is nowhere close to being at this point of time. This is not really something that can be argued as the 30th centre was at 54 points last year which includes the 5-8 #2C's that are really #1's like malkin pavelski etc. This balances out the 5-10 teams that dont have a #1c. So yes 50points is "borderline" #1c. Is it a topend #1C? no. But it is borderline which was the original point that you have argued into oblivion for no purpose that anyone else can fathom.
  3. Really starting to see him takeoff, like i said the other day hes using his offensive skills now, i think that was our first true bodrag in the nhl last night?
  4. 10points in 34games now he has really been coming on strong as of late. More important than the points though is the fact he is carrying the puck with authority and isnt just throwing it away like he was earlier in the year.
  5. 5on3 1minute into the game followed by what seemed like half a dozen more penalties. Larkin put one in the US net, i thought demko couldve had it but its tough when your own team redirects a shot top corner.
  6. brutal game by team usa so far, dont think demko has been as sharp as he was against canada, but the team in front of him has imploded.
  7. no he should have led them in scoring, hits, takeaways, not allowed a shot against and had 100% offensive zone time since they are "only" cis players. ./end sarcasm.
  8. you are awesome, btw if you have paypal id be willing to chip in a few bucks for your efforts since it is costing you money.
  9. i thought bo had one of his best offensive games tonight, was very involved, cycled well had a few good chances off the rush. Then you add in his backcheck and positioning and the kid is starting to look very comfortable at this level.
  10. i think many would disagree, but regardless this thread provides a great place for people to talk about Bo and judging by the last 3 weeks there is lots of people who wish to express their opinion on his play and role regardless if he is a "prospect" or not.
  11. i wonder if benning isnt so concerned with the 9game mark and burning a year off his ELC as he is about the 40game mark and burning a year off his UFA eligibility. I think that date may be the real deadline for Bo.
  12. real nice defensive play (i think thats the one you guys are talking about)
  13. yeah its quite disconcerting to watch a canucks prospect be a physical PITA on the ice. His hands look rusty still like on the PS and a few in tight plays he had but the raw tools looks tantalizing. On that play that caused the PS he made up 10-15 feet on that defenseman before the kid even knew what happened, can see virtanen causing havoc in the NHL just on his wheels alone.
  14. just finished watching the game, was my first time seeing virtanen play. I was really surprised at just how quickly he explodes into holes on the ice and how physical he is. Very unusual to see a highly skilled player play with the kind of physicality that he does.
  15. Clearly people here talking about barry brust have never seen the guy play. Barry made Tim Thomas look like a technical genius. The two are night and day. Markstrom is stopping the puck due to his athletic ability and newfound structure in his game. Barry Brust stops the puck due to throwing his body at the player and having a ridiculous hotstreak(ala david honzik). Anyone with any goaltending acumen would know that Brust has little to no concept of angles, spacing, or economy of motion.
  16. most international tournaments are on well - international ice. Patrice Bergeron is one of the most impactful players in the NHL but in the olympics and international play he suffers just the same as Bo does on the big ice and with the lack of true defensive structure in those short tournaments. They rely on positioning and smarts and neither of them have the topend speed to truly drive the play on bigger ice surfaces against the elite of their leagues. Bo looked much more comfortable in this game than anytime i saw him play in the WJC last year. Doesnt take anything away from Bo or Bergeron they are great players in their own respect but their games are tailor made for the NHL and not so much for international play which is more free flowing than the NHL. Just my opinion but that is the way i see it.
  17. id say so, if you multiply minutes by games played virtanen at 71games 17.8 minutes = 1263min ehlers at 63 games 26minutes = 1638min so virtanen played 8more games than ehlers but virtanen still played 375minutes (23%) less than him according to that data. if you look at the whole package of virtanen's year from his late birthday(almost 2015 eligible), shoulder injury, second pp unit and less than average icetime and linemates for a topend pick and it starts to paint a picture of a player that could have a lot more to give than what he has shown so far and he has shown a lot which is exciting to think about.
  18. booth was on a trajectory to be a very good NHL player until richards took his head off. Jake i think has a better shot that booth and hopefully more willingness to work on his game. I think its a pretty fair comparison. If your comparing him to booth of the last 3 years then heck no. But booth predecapitation was on the way to be a solid top6 forward if not topline winger.
  19. people talking about jakes hockey IQ need to remember just how young he is for this draft class. To put it in perspective Jack Eichel a #1 or #2 pick next year is closer in age to Jake (72 days apart) than jake is to almost all of the top rated prospects in this draft. Nikolaj ehlers (185days) sam reinhart (285days) Ritchie (256 days) draisaitl(295days almost a full year) bennett&dalcolle (58days weird both have same bday) nylander (108) for me that is a great bonus for Jake that he is close in development to some of the prospects that are much older than him. If you look at sam reinhart's month by month totals from 2012-13 it tells a very clear tale he went from barely averaging a PPG before xmas to almost 1.5ppg after xmas in 2012. that 9 month difference at that age are huge in development and maturity and physical growth. For me it is another piece of the puzzle to look at when evaluating prospects for a draft. fun fact: bo horvat is closer in age to reinhart, draisaitl and ritchie than jake is.
  20. perlini needed to impress a lot of people after the way he played down the stretch in the CHL. some scouting services have him outside the top20 now. http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/roster/gameByGame/id/10377 his month by month totals you can see a clear dropoff in his production as a the year progressed, not something scouts want to see in a top10player. Couple that with what most seem to be saying was a poor playoff performance and the U18 was very important for him to show what kind of prospect he really is. Quotable: “He’s what I call a scout killer. He can either extend your contract or possibly make it your last one.” – NHL Scout (from the blackbook) some team is going to get him around 20 and if he figures it out and puts his game in order he will be a steal but most teams dont want to take that much risk on that high in the draft.
  21. it all stems from the 40goal season he had, people figure he should hit that every year to be a 2C. Little do they realize that only 4players in the entire league are likely to hit that total this year. back on topic 74points in 57games is a good stepup for bo production wise. almost half a ppg up from last year. Hopefully he can elevate in the playoffs and mem cup again this year for the knights.
  22. "In addition, I will be inviting you to participate in a webcast after I get home from the GM meetings and upcoming road trip. I want to articulate our plans with you openly and want to give you an opportunity to ask questions so that you have a greater understanding of the vision. " if anyone has good articulate questions they want asked i will do my best to get them asked during the webcast
  23. sure looked that way for london tonight. i suspect they wont enjoy the hunters practices this week.
  24. glum because i have a bad feeling we will pick 6th and miss out on the elite of this draft class. seems to be a large dropoff in talent after 5th ekblad, reinhart, bennett, dalcolle, draisaitl are the clear top5 6-15 are wide open this year imo.
  25. your post is comical, what was wrong with the ryan parent for obrien deal? we got a serviceable #6 defenseman for a player that never played in the NHL on a regular basis? Shirokov for duco - shirokov hasnt played in NA since and probably wont Duco played a few games for us and was a serviceable player in the minors. Derek roy was a good trade for a good player that was utilized horribly by the coaching staff. Roy played with what seemed like 12different linemates in a 12game span. No wonder he didnt develop any chemistry. even the booth trade we gave up a broken samuelsson and a broken sturm for booth who has massively underachieved the only negative part of that trade at the time was booths term on his contract but that is why we got him for nothing. deal with it and moveon which is exactly what the canucks will do this summer with a buyout. not sure what people try to accomplish by dissecting each move by a GM, they all make mistakes they all have their own strengths and weaknesses even the great ken holland. What matters is the body of work by a GM over a 5year span and for MG that 5year span has been better than most and worse than others. Think of it this way what would people be saying about pete chiarelli if boston didnt win game7 and then lost again to chicago, instead because his team won one game he is regarded as one of the best GMs in the league.
