[GDT] Around the NHL | January (22-28) 2023

I was pretty confident tonight would have been a 0 for night based on the strength of opponents. The fact that Arizona won is a bonus for me. I honestly don’t think there’s a team we can’t catch right now. This teams confidence is shot. -
Ultimately they will be judged by how they build the team and if the wins follow. All the rest of this is just noise. Their next big test is the trade deadline and how they deal with that. If they can make some good moves there I’ll reassess. If they continue to fail at improving the roster then I’ll be critical. This is it though. The work that they talk about needs to happen now. No more talking, just get to work on improving the roster.

Liked what I heard from Tocchett. Seems like he’s going to take a very reasonable approach to the rest of the season. Understands that long term goals trump wins right now. More about teaching, evaluating and getting to know the players. I actually didn’t even mind Rutherfords responses. I know everyone wants to crucify him but I thought he was remorseful and owned what happened. A lot of it was just media speculation and intensity driving it. The one person I was really disappointed with today was Allvin. He’s the most responsible for this mess and he didn’t seem to own up to it too much. Looked disengaged and at times a little intimidated like he had no idea that he was to blame. Did not look like a leader with a confident direction. Seemed like a guy that is putting it on people he hired to fix things.

I just hope Foote gets our D men protecting the goalie. I don’t care if you take a roughing penalty the other team needs to know if you whack our goalie or get in his crease you’re gonna be flat on the ice. We’re way too soft in that department. It will be obvious fairly quickly who’s willing to play that way and who needs to go.
-
I hope not. If you’re making long terms plans based on who your coach is at the time you’re being too short sighted. If they wanna build a contender they need to already have an idea of how they wanna play and what their identity is. That should fit with whatever coach they hire now or in the future.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
DeNiro replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I want more picks too but getting picks at the deadline is honestly overrated. You know the pick is guaranteed to be 25 or later. Those picks are so hard to turn into impact guys. Better to get picks that haven’t been assigned a range yet. Like look at how Montreal got a 1st. They very well could get a top 10-15 pick from Florida. That’s a pick that makes a difference. -

Three pieces is pretty standard. I would assume the two roster players would not be the main piece in the trade. Any team they’re dealing with probably wouldn’t part with top young players from their team. The top prospect is the quality piece. -
Well to be honest nobody thought much of Sullivan when he was here then he went on to win back to back cups. Sometimes a coach needs the right opportunity and right fit to have success. That being said JR and Allvin are so far from having this team look like a contender, that it wouldn’t really matter what coach you brought in right now.

That’s what I’m praying. Theres no way we can have a powerplay that inconsistent that gave up that many SHG, and a penalty kill that is historically bad and not have those two fired. Im thinking they’ll be kept to continue the tank and hopefully whoever they have in mind as permanent replacements can be hired in the summer. At least they’ll have some options there based on firings.

Knowing this ownership and what management has said they wanna win a bunch of mean nothing games against easy opponents to create the illusion that the team is close again. Renewing seasons tickets is the goal after all, not creating a winner. -

Oh looks like they finally remembered they actually have to fire him. Nice of them to finally get around to telling him what’s going on.,. -

He agreed to it. Rutherford was the one who added him though.
