If Hunter cares about his players and their development (which I think he does), I don't think he would stand in the way of what's best for a player. Going to Finland provides Juolevi the challenge and the mentorship that he needs right now.
-
Pulljujarvi or Hischier will win it.

No QMJHL player of the week? Benning can't draft!
-
Sergachev went back to a stacked Windsor team, whereas Juolevi went back to a depleted London team. To compare their performances in their draft +1 seasons isn't really fair. Both of these players can play in the NHL because of their size and strength, but from what I've seen neither of them play a very smart game. It would surprise me if either of them became more than a #3-4 Dman. Juolevi may be more of a gamble but I think his IQ at least gives him a chance to be a solid number 2 guy. He still needs to get stronger and learn how to deal with the physical aspect of the game. Which he'll likely do in Finland this season.
-
Its probably that his opponents are much faster, so laying those big hits isnt quite as easy. He's gotta have the IQ to get to those players before they get the puck off, otherwise he's gonna keep taking interference penalties.
-
Can't wait to see him and Dahlen making these types of plays on the regular.
-
Rodin will get an extended look no doubt. Absolutely no point dumping him on waivers when guys like Goldobin and Virtanen can start the year in Utica.
-
It is preseason remember. There's gonna be that kind of sloppy play in any league. Still like to see those silky smooth mitts though.
-
Definitely not gonna happen on a weaker Oshawa team.
-
Lets start with training camp before we start piling on the Calder and points predictions huh? Have we not put enough pressure on past prospects to learn our lesson yet?
-
Would be a fun line if both guys are ready, but Baertschi has shown too much chemistry with Bo to split them up. Virtanen will have to find chemistry with Gagner, Sutter, or Granlund if he's gonna make it.
-
He can wear cutoff shorts and a blouse for all I care as long as he becomes a player for us.
-
Would have gotten prime playing time in Utica.
-
Sounds like fate. Maybe he's the prophesized goalie that will finally bring a cup to Vancouver and restore order to the universe! Can hockey start already!!

Has anyone else noticed that Dipietro wears number 64 and we drafted him 64th overall... Kind of a crazy coincidence, no? I mean 64 isn't exactly a common number.
-
Thats why I never made the NHL. Forget about talent or opportunity. It was my lack of respect for law that did me in.
-
I'm just saying this isn't gonna impact his career long term. We can make all the assumptions about his character we want, but really it means nothing. I'm just glad we're not hearing about him getting in a bar fight or smashing his car into a tree. That to me would raise a lot more red flags. On a side note, I find it weird he's getting more discussion than Gadjovich and Dipietro, who have way higher potential. I guess CDC loves the underdogs.

Then that makes you the exception. I don't know anyone who hasn't got a fine or a ticket for something when they were younger. If the worst thing I did when I was that age was take a couple fish out of a pond illegally I think my parents would be happy. Regardless we don't even know the level to which he was involved, so to start making assumption about his character is pretty premature.
-
And you know the fact that he's 20 and people are treating him like an adult. If anyone on here says they didn't break the law at 20 they either grew up very religious or they're a liar.
-
Chill out grandpa. I'm sure you did way worse stuff when you were 20 than getting fined for fishing. People b!tch way too much nowadays. I'm sure he's learned his lesson now. I dont see this as a reflection of his hockey career at all. Just a bunch of kids getting into mischief during the summer. It's not like he was shooting down bald eagles with a crossbow. Move on.

Benning didn't think he had the maturity to be an NHLer. Same thing as a the Kassian situation. Sometimes a player just needs a change of scenery. The player he became in Dallas playing with Benn, is likely not the level of player he would have become if he had stayed in Boston.
-
It could definitely be a big part of it. But to me it seemed like his goal was to get to a playing weight of 240-245ish. He wouldn't be the first player to think that getting to this weight is the key to being a powerforward in the NHL. I don't think that he wasn't working out, just working out in an ineffective way.
-
It means he owns your house, and all the houses in town. You must also pay him gold every month and surrender half of your annual harvest.

It seems to me that he got some bad advice or ignored advice about what would make him successful at the next level. Some players seem to think that if they simply pack on the pounds to get as heavy as possible that it will give them a better chance of handling the physicality of the NHL. They fail to realize though that they've got to be able to have the cardio and stamina to carry around that extra weight. And that extra weight doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to be stronger. I think he understands now that being 215-220 of solid muscle is better than being 240-245 of body fat, especially when he doesn't have the proper cardio to skate for a minute and a half with that weight. I think anyone who watched him closely would notice that he'd skate hard for about 20 seconds before he got burnt out, and that's when he would get caught not making the proper defensive plays. It's not that he didn't know where to be all the time, but rather he didn't have the stamina to get there in time. Not uncommon for guys his age to find this balance. Less focus on weight and more focus on strength and stamina will do wonders for him.
