  1. AHL teams are going to go through their ups and downs just like NHL teams. Especially when prospects graduate. If anything, not having good prospects down there is a good thing because it means Utica is doing it's job of producing NHLers. They should be absolutely stacked in the 18/19 season, that will be their new window for a Calder Cup run. It's not like they had to wait too long.
  2. Isn't qualifying a pretty standard thing that just allows them to keep negotiating? Pretty sure this literally happens all the time. It has nothing to do with pushing back. Contracts like these always take a little longer.
  3. I would say those people are an exception. Don't know too many people that weighed the same amount at 18 as they did at 25. You have to have a pretty fast metabolism for that to happen. Point is lots of these young guys come in weighing 160-170 pounds and they end up adding 15-20 lbs no problem. Gotta remember these aren't just your average people, they have access to world class trainers and dietitians. He'll be fine. And as for overrating that league, Pettersson was playing against men vs Patrick who was dominating kids as young as 15 in junior. Each of them have their flaws, including Patrick's injury history. Bottom line is, teams do shy away from smaller weaker players. If Pettersson was as big as Patrick, I don't have any doubt he'd be in the conversation for top 3 at least.
  4. People focus on weight a little too much sometimes. These are 17/18 year old guys who are obviously going to fill out. If Pettersson was 6'2" and 190 lbs I doubt he even makes it past 3, might even go ahead of Patrick with the numbers he put up. I have no doubt he'll put in the work to get his weight and strength up.
  5. Outscored 19 year old Nick Merkley this season. Better numbers than Eberle in his draft year as well. Will be interesting to see what he can do in his draft +1 season.
  6. Watching Pettersson and Dahlen tear it up in the youngstars tourney should be fun.
  7. Kronwall without the offense? I'll take that.
  8. I would not mind Pettersson don't get me wrong, but only if Vilardi and their top D choice is gone. We can't afford to pass on a player who looks like Horvat 2.0. Having two two-way centers like this is our key to competing in the Pacific.
  9. If we pass on Vilardi for Pettersson it will be the reverse of passing on Nylander for Virtanen. Taking the hard nosed player over the highly skilled player vs taking the highly skilled player over the hard nosed player. DO NOT PASS ON VILARDI!
  10. I don't see how projecting him to be a solid 4th liner is overrating him. He may be the one prospect who has realistic expectations attached to him. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep a player that we drafted and have developed for 5 years, who by all accounts has worked his butt off to make the NHL. Creating a culture involves keeping players like this who understand what the organization expects of them on and off the ice. This may seem like no big deal to some people, but I see it as a big positive.
  11. I like the idea of drafting players that have won championships at a young age. If we draft Vilardi that would give us 5 Memorial cup champs in the system, plus a couple NCAA champs on the big club. Can never have too many of these types of players.
  12. Hischier is not dropping, he's going first overall. Only chance at Patrick is if we get the third and Philly passes on him for Vilardi.
  13. Having a one two punch of Horvat and Vilardi would allow Green to put out our top two lines in any situation. That's a coaches dream.
  14. He's 18, I'm almost certain he will get better. A top 4 D-man in free agency will also cost you 5+ million.
  15. My hope would be he takes Vilardi at 3 and then Heiskanen or Liljegren at 5. I don't think we can afford to pass on the best D-man available if if there was another center he liked. Best center at 3, best D-man at 5. Coming out of the draft with those two pieces would be a major home run for Benning.
  16. Based on Green's comments about there being no excuse for a pro to come to camp out of shape, I have a feeling Tryamkin would be in his doghouse right away.
  17. Yes an agreement could be made with his KHL team. However I don't want him back here unless he wants to be here. Right now it doesn't seem like he does.
  18. What is the CCM team? Is that just a sponsorship deal?
  19. If junior reffing makes him sick, imagine how he'll feel about NHL reffing.
  20. I initially thought that JB would for sure take the best center available at the draft, but after watching the impact of D-men in these series, I have a feeling it's going to be between Liljegren and Heiskanen for us. Unless a highly rated center drops out of the top 4.
  21. Wow, I've seen players take penalties hard before but nothing like that...
  22. No way Benning takes that big of a risk at number 5. I'm pretty sure we'll be taking one of Vilardi, Mittelstatd, Heiskanen, or Liljegren.
  23. It's not the program he was on, it's the person he is. Sadly not every prospect has the work ethic and commitment that Horvat has.
  24. Developing in the Czech league is much better than him being a fringe AHLer next season. In two years we could very well have a fully developed prospect ready to step right into the NHL. Nothing wrong with this at all.
  25. Nope not at all. The kid looks like a stud that would be a good backup plan if Demko doesn't pan out. He'd also be a bluechip prospect that could be flipped for another high end prospect at a later date. Hopefully we can snag a high end D prospect at that spot though.
