  1. Really could be worse. Even though I wanted to watch him in the worlds, I'm more interested to see if he can lead ND to another frozen four.
  2. Biggest mistake team Canada has made in the past. Trying to build a team out of offensive stars rather than a complete team. The best teams Canada has iced were built on both elite offensive talent as well as defensive talent.
  3. Didn't even really get a legit chance on either team. Regardless, for a 5th round pick to get even that close to the show is pretty good. The average 5th rounder is more likely to toil away in the minors or overseas,
  4. Corrado was a pretty well regarded junior player that was captain of his team. He deserved his selection to camp, but after getting goals in all his games he was cut in place of a higher profile D-man that ended up having a poor world juniors. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if he gets cut regardless of the camp he has. Corrado is still a good prospect, unfortunately the leafs decided to get greedy and ruin his career by claiming him and not playing him. He would likely be playing bottom pairing for us right now had he not been claimed. Not bad for a 5th round pick.
  5. From the sounds of it he took last offseason very seriously. Working with the trainers ever day for two months. Unfortunately one offseason isn't gonna make too much difference if he had poor habits previously. Hopefully he gets how hard he has to work now though. No sitting around playing video games with your friends and eating McDonald's.
  6. Not holding my breath on Brisebois making it. We see this every year with team Canada. They play politics instead of building the best team. As a 3rd round pick and and lesser known player he's going to have a much tougher time despite his play in camp. Same thing happened with Corrado.
  7. Pretty sure Gaudette is out too. Can somebody go and bubble wrap Juolevi right now!
  8. More like he's realizing he won't have much competition for a roster spot next season.
  9. Love Juolevi's wrister. He's got such a quick accurate release. Manages to beat goalies without any screens.
  10. Tonight there was a perfect example of why the powerplay is failing. Sutter was alone in the slot tapping his stick for a shot and Henrik cycles it along the boards to the D instead. Amazing that professionals can fail to realize where the vast majority of goals are scored from. Maybe they need to be shown a shot chart of all their goals to wake them up.
  11. Put a guy with a great shot on the powerplay and he produces. Gee who woulda thought?
  12. Baby steps. Start with putting the puck in the net again, then he can worry about getting back to being a physical presence. We need him to be a goal scorer first and foremost.
  13. Looking more like the player he was in junior. Amazing what having confidence and having a coach that plays you and lets you make mistakes can do.

ECHL players are paid (very little) and that's definitely not a pro league.

Pretty sure pro games include NHL, KHL, SHL etc. AHL is considered a minor league.
  16. Nope. He could potentially still be added, but he'll likely have to wait till next year.
  17. True. Michigan is a great program though. They should be taking advantage of him being there for as long as he's continuing to develop. He could be one of those players who's ready to step right in from college if he puts the work in.
  18. Too soon for him. Speed and strength will need to be added for him to compete in the NHL. I would like to see him in college for at least 3 seasons. No need to rush him.
  19. Lockwood will likely get his chance next season. Remember it's a 19 years olds tournament and he's just starting to make a name for himself at the NCAA level.

That's one area that I'm actually not worried about with this team going forward. In his 2 and a half years here Benning has shown he has a great eye for defensive talent whether it be through the draft (Juolevi, Tryamkin, Brisebois, Forsling), through trades (Gudbranson), or through free agency (Stecher). One more draft where we take a high end defenseman and I think we'll almost be set there. The area that worries me the most is high end offensive talent. We have what looks like a good start with Horvat and Boeser. But it gets a little grayer though with Virtanen, and even more uncertain with guys like Lockwood, Gaudette, and Zhukenov. We need as many offensive pieces in the pool as we can get right now, and if that means sacrificing depth on D, so be it. It's the only option we have right now if they don't want to ensure a top 5 pick.

I know they love Tanev and what he brings, but they need to be honest about where the team is at and what Tanev's value is now vs what it will be in a few seasons. The two biggest pieces missing from this team going forward right now is a number 1 center and a number 1-2 D-man (depending on how Juolevi develops). Trading Tanev for that center would allow us to focus on more top 6 scoring in the draft, or to try and land that number 1-2 defenseman for the future. We can find stay at home D-man like Tanev in the future and his value will likely never be as high as it is right now.

That's likely the only way we get a top prospect or young player. Does Buffalo bite to move Sam Reinhart? He seems to be a little undervalued there right now. Might be the best time to snag our future top 6 center.

It's part of business. You can't always reveal your hand to the public. There's subtle intricacies going on behind closed doors that force him to keep certain secrets, secret. Do you think announcing to the rest of league that we're rebuilding (even if we are) would be a smart strategy? I think that would just bring out GMs that are looking to take players off our hands for cheap.

Benning gave up a 2nd round pick for Linden Vey, so you never know. There's always teams looking for cheap scoring options. With his friendly cap hit there are worse options out there if he can prove to be a scorer at this level.
