Sergachev has the size and strength to allow him to handle the NHL. That's what sets him apart from Juolevi. He'll likely struggle with the speed of the game though.
-
What? Who are they playing the women's lacrosse team?
-
Nice to see Jost with his first goal. Where are people finding the stat sheets for these games?
-
Hopefully not, UND has to defend their championship.
-
That would mean going to school for 3 more years even though he'll likely be ready to turn pro after his year. Doesn't make sense for his career.
-
The more games the better for him, but I don't think there's enough room on the blueline. They'd have to put someone on waivers for him to get his 9 games. I don't see that happening.
-
I'm hoping he can go back to London and develop a more dynamic offensive game. It's great to have a guy that makes good decisions with the puck in his own zone, but we need more than that from a 5th overall pick IMO. We need a guy that can drive the offense from the back end, walk the line on the powerplay and get shots through with ease, and basically play big minutes in any situation. He's got a good foundation for that, but he just needs to keep working at it.
-
And he doesn't look like a Watusi either... He's more of a new age powerforward. I have a feeling Bertuzzi would get exposed badly with how good players skating is now.
-
Sounds like a Terminator.

I think if we had a young player like OEL it might help extend the Sedins careers. Just look at how efficiently they move the puck around playing with OEL and Karlsson. Their skating is not even an issue when they have guys like that rushing the puck.
-
His shot is what's going to make him a player in the NHL. I have a hard time believing that he'll be able to showcase it after an injury like that. Hope I'm wrong though.
-
I think there's a good chance we may have passed on the next Corey Perry in Tkachuk. D-men in the mould of a Letang or Keith are so valuable to winning a Stanley Cup though. If we're going with the philosophy of building from the net out, Juolevi is a great place to start.

223 and speed to burn? Wow hopefully it pays off. Funny even the players realize that line worked. Willie needs to give it a chance rather than putting Horvat with fourth line grinders.
-
Opponents were never exactly scared of Edler when he played physical either, but they knew he could put them on their butts if they tried to cut around him.
-
You clearly missed the conversation then. I said IF Jost rips up the NCAA in his first season and shows great chemistry with Boeser, then the value becomes a little close. I think the odds are high we trade a D-man for a young center going forward, whether it's Tanev or Edler. The majority of people on here were proposing trading Edler for Montreal's 9th. I don't see the difference in value trading him for a recent 10th overall pick who we would have likely taken with a 9th.
-
Yea I get your point, I just like Jost. I wanted us to try and trade down and draft him before the draft. On the flip side I think Boeser could fetch us a top 4 D-man like Tanev even though he's far from being guaranteed first line talent. Sometimes teams are willing to pay a premium for potential. It can end up being alot cheaper than trying to acquire those players once they're fully developed.
-
This is after a season in the NCAA where he has proven he has first line center potential. Again, it's a gamble, but if we end up getting a young future top center for Tanev, that's a good trade. We need a number one center more than any other position right now. We're not likely going to get an established one for him.
-
That's the risk you have to take sometimes if you believe in the player. If he ends up having a calder caliber rookie season, good luck trying to acquire him in the future.
-
No probably not, considering I think Tanev+ could fetch a proven young player like Landeskog right now. If Jost has a Kyle Connor like freshman year it makes the value a little closer. Colorado would want us to overpay to reunite Boeser and Jost though.
-
No idea who that is but that's a sick mask and a nice tribute.
-
I wouldn't pay that much now, maybe if he tears it up this season though. I could see Edler+ being enough to acquire Jost now if they were willing to trade him. I doubt they are though.
-
I hope Juolevi can add an element of physical play to his game. I know he doesn't play that way now, but I think as he adds some weight to his frame he may discover he can play that way when he needs to. I remember Edler early on wasn't a very physical player, until Ohlund took him under his wing. Then he seemed to almost model his game after him. Maybe some of Gudbranson's game can rub off on Olli a bit. It doesn't matter if he doesn't, it would just be nice if he can learn to play that way for when we go against the big teams in the pacific. Sometimes a big bodycheck here and there is necessary. Anyone know what weight Edler was listed at when he was drafted? Just curious.
-
If Boeser and Jost have instant chemistry together I'd love to see the Canucks acquire him from Colorado somehow. They already have Mackinnon and Duchene down the middle, maybe they'd be willing to part with him for help on D.

No professional athlete can just "forget the cardio", it's important for every player whether they're good skaters or not. Sure he may not play 20 minutes a night but there's gonna be shifts that he my get pinned in his own zone and have to spend 2+ minutes out there. That's when good cardio allows a player to dig deep and make sure they don't get caught chasing the play. Virtanen needs to have that ability as much as any player. Coach Willie and coach Green both publicly questioned Jake's fitness last season and made it pretty clear he wasn't at the level he needed to be. That's why he was coming out of the lineup so that he could work with the trainers. In order for him to play at 220 lbs and not have it affect his skating he's going to have to have good conditioning.
-
Interesting. Wonder what weight he's at now. Hopefully he's been studying how the Sedins workout and he comes to camp with great cardio.
