  1. Benning constantly references Juolevi's play in his own end more than anything. His poise with the puck and ability to get it up to the forwards quickly. That's why he liked him. Defenseman who put up big points in junior are a dime a dozen. Ones that can put up big points while playing a mature responsible game are much harder to find.
  2. He has also traded 3 former 1st round picks in those two years. I'm just saying I hope Gaunce doesn't get grouped together with players he thinks are expendable. I think Gaunce has more upside than he may get credit for. But it would be easy for Benning to throw him into a trade for a top 6 winger. Hope it doesn't happen.
  3. The Canucks have had 15 1st round selections since 2003. 10 out of those 15 picks have been traded or are no longer with the team... I really hope this trend doesn't continue with Gaunce. You can't expect to have success with this level of incompetence when it comes to drafting.
  4. Tram is simple and fitting. When he throws a big hit you can say they caught the #88 Tram.
  5. Biggest thing with Virtanen is his cardio. Being able to go all out during a shift as opposed to being gassed after 20 seconds is key. You can hardly tell if he's in shape or not from a video. Byflugien looks like somebodies dad, but the guy is in great shape. His speed and strength were already good last season, it's his conditioning that needed work. If the Canucks trainers are working with him every day, I doubt they're letting him slip.

Any player can go on a conditioning stint if they've been out for a certain amount of time.
  7. Baertschi is definitely tougher than he gets credit for. He was constantly battling much bigger defenders in front of the net last season and getting to rebounds first.
  8. Regardless of what McCann did he wasn't going to bump any of the top 3 centers, and he's not suited as a winger. His talents would have been pretty wasted as a fourth line center. Granlund and Gaunce's game are much better suited to that role.
  9. I think the acquisition of Granlund and what they saw from Gaunce last season made them believe McCann was expendable. Between Granlund and Gaunce, one of them should be a decent fourth line center next season. Both can play left wing too.
  10. Well that explains why he wasn't taken in the import draft then. That's too bad, I would have liked to follow him in junior.
  11. So there's a good possibility the coach was deploying him in sheltered minutes in his first season. As long as he's learning a strong two way game that's the important thing. I'm sure his point totals will be higher next season.
  12. Does anyone know Zhuke's ice time? Sometimes it has to be looked at in context. From the looks of it there's two centers ahead of him.
  13. Nice! Gotta love that confidence. Looks good in 19...Too bad he won't get that here.
  14. He did play on the first unit actually, however their powerplay revolved around Marner being on the point and making plays. I think he'll have a bigger role now that Marner is gone.
  15. Gaunce will likely spend at least half a season in Utica. If he can improve his consistency he'll get a call up. He's gotta outplay Etem or Granlund to gain a spot.
  16. Yea he definitely was. From what I can tell it was mainly Dvorak, Marner, Tkachuk, Piccinich, and Juolevi. However the powerplay seemed to revolve around Marner being the point man. So you gotta think with Juolevi taking that role he'll get lots more assists.
  17. Yea I've heard their methods questioned before, don't think they've ever been disciplined before though. And no I'm pretty sure Marner played the point on the first unit, which is why Juolevi's numbers should get a boost.
  18. Tkachuk will still be on the team and Jones and Pu are likely to step up into a bigger role. London never seems to have a problem replacing talent. Juolevi getting first unit powerplay time should pump up his stats even more.
  19. I don't see it as any different than teams offering a premium for rentals at any other trade deadline. if Hansen ends up being a great fit on their team they can always protect him and leave someone else unprotected.
  20. If it's a team that's close to winning the cup Hansen would be a very valuable top 9 piece. I doubt there would be many players as versatile as Hansen available out there.
  21. Even if he was close I think management would send him back to junior. They'd rather be slow with him than risk any chance of rushing him. He would have to have a Hutton like training camp, which I think is unlikely since Hutton was 22 and had much more time to refine his game.
  22. I have no problem with Larsen being waived or traded if Juolevi makes the team. That being said I would give him a 5% chance of making it.
  23. I thought each team only needed to expose one player. The one D would obviously be Biega. For the two forwards just expose Dorsett and Etem.
  24. I think you'll see Hansen and one of Etem, Granlund or Rodin packaged together before the deadline to be honest. It doesn't make sense to lose young assets when you can get something for Hansen while his value is high.
  25. Damn. Well that might increase his chances of getting dealt then if he can't crack the roster. That or we'll end up dealing or leaving Granlund and Etem unprotected.
