He has the ability to be a top pairing defenseman in the mold of TJ Brodie yes. He'll need an elite defenseman to play with for that to happen though.
-
Awesome. Hopefully Stecher has had a talk with him too.
-
And yet the Oilers wanted him to come back until he refused to play for them. Sour grapes much?
-
Really? I thought the USHL was like any league where the Canucks could loan him to them since they own his rights. It would be like if he wanted to go play on a junior team in Europe no?

The musketeers have produced notable NHLers such as Pacioretty, Dekeyser, Klesla, and S.Gagner. The USHL is a good league and has been gaining more and more respect from NHL scouts. Seems like Benning and co are scouting the USHL and college teams very heavily. Wouldn't be a bad move for Brisebois since the team he's on seems pretty bad and he didn't really improve as much as we would have hoped he would this season.

Can Brisebois not just go the college route and sign with UND now?

There's the other half of the problem. Not only do fans create silly rumors, other fans just assume they're true because so and so said so. Apparently peoples cousins are considered valid sources on here. Remember that come fee agency people. I'm willing to bet that it was just some dude that he thought was Virtanen, and the guys an idiot.
-
Remember how much "character" Cody Hodgson had? Enough character to demand a trade at age 20 apparently. Fans that expect these kids to be perfect are ridiculous.
-
This is what's wrong with Canucks fans. Needless rumors obsessing over players in their personal lives. Something tells me "out of shape" for a hockey player is still in way better shape than 90% of people out there. I doubt he could have gotten that out of shape in less than a month anyways. Pot is no worse than going and having a drink in the offseason. There's worse things he could be doing if true.

Finland has a deep roster dummy. Let me know when Shinakruk gets a sniff at a world championship invite. To even be considered for his national team shows that you have no idea what his talent level is.
-
Amazing how some people just jump to the conclusion that a GM is completely incompetent without knowing anything that is going on behind the scenes. What value did Corrado have? A 7th round pick? I'd assume they'd rather try and sneak him through waivers than get the pick.
-
They didn't want a 2nd round pick. The whole point was to get a player who was further along in their development. Benning continually talks about filling the 22-26 age gap. That's what he was doing here.
-
I think they're hoping he follows a similar route as fellow Finn Valterri Filppula. At Granlund's age Filppula was looking like a fringe NHLer as well. He had only put up 17 points in 73 games as a 23 year old. Pretty much the same point projection Granlund had this season. The following season he put up 36 points and scored 19 goals. The biggest difference was he got stronger. At the same height, Filppula has almost 20 pounds on Granlund. That's going to be the biggest difference for him taking the next step. I hope the Canucks take serious initiative to make sure that he puts in the work this summer in the gym. There's no reason he can't have the same type of breakout season next year with added speed and strength.
-
Neither Granlund or Shinkaruk play physical in any way. As far as being aggressive Shinkaruk probably has the edge, but that's not saying a whole lot. Either way I don't think we've seen the best of Granlund so it's too early to judge.
-
Then we'll build him into something and trade him to a team looking for skill. I have a feeling this move will go better than the Vey trade. Granlund just needs to put on some muscle and he'll have more success. Wait till his second season here before we start saying that he's a bust. We gave Vey that opportunity after all.

McNally stayed in school all 4 years because he was focused on getting an education in case he wasn't good enough to make the NHL. It was a good move for him since it's unlikely he makes it. I don't see Boeser having that same thought process.
-
Pretty sure he said he would let the Canucks know in a few weeks. Still like a week and a half to go.
-
Really? We developed one of the best young goalies in the league in Schneider. Turned an undrafted backup goalie from the Swedish league into a legit NHL goalie. Salvaged Marsktrom's career when it was looking like the once blue chip prospect was turning into a bust. I would say they've been a goalie factory over the last 5 years.
-
No, but only because it will conflict with his school schedule.
-
The same thing goes for Duncan Keith yet he rarely gets drilled with a big hit. Wanna know why? Skating ability. Smaller guys that make it to the next level learn how to not get hit. You really think Patrick Kane would still be playing hockey if he didn't have that ability?
-
He wouldn't be the first Scandanavian player to come into the league with a raw skill set. Still lots of time to improve his skill and strength. It all depends on how committed he is.
-
The 2014 development camp which Stecher took part in was when Benning was in charge and was a Benning invite. So no, no ther management can take credit for this signing.

News1130 Sports puts the Province to shame. Not that that's saying much.
