  1. You don't understand the importance of a supporting cast then. Virtanen may not end up becoming a star, that doesn't mean these players aren't a critical part of a Stanley Cup winner. You're ignoring how important the Bruins and Kings physical game was to them winning. Lucic and Horton were huge parts of their run, not mention Recchi. The whole team played a north-south game. The same game Virtanen plays. Brown, Richards, and Williams all play the same straight line game too.
  2. I bet Kane will finish his career with more cups and individual awards than Crosby. He's just peaking this year. He could easily walk away with the Art Ross, Hart, and Lindsay. Minus the hype and Kane>>Crosby and Ovechkin.
  3. Look at LA and Boston though. They have lots of those players. That's the type of team Benning is trying to build.
  4. Nylander is like Kane how Kassian is like Bertuzzi. Kane is a generational player. If our goal is to draft another Kane in the draft, we're gonna be waiting a long time.
  5. I'm not gonna defend his play this season. Clearly it hasn't been good enough. But I've seen the type of player he is over the last two years to know that he plays hard and physical. That's always been his game. Right now we're seeing a player that's lacking confidence. It happens.
  6. That's why I really wanted McCann to go. I think he would have thrived in this tournament and made a difference for team Canada.
  7. Yep. The exact type of play that exists in the playoffs. That's what Benning is trying to build. Guys that aren't gonna put up huge points, but play hard, fast, and simple hockey. It's what has made the Kings and Bruins successful.
  8. That and the fact that drafting Nylander would be committing to a certain type of team again. One that we tried building only to have it get beaten by bigger and nastier teams. It's obvious the type of team Benning wants. He will choose players who play hard and physical over skilled guys every time. Alot of things still need to go right though.
  9. This. I'm more disappointed about the quality of games so far. Hopefully the intensity and skill picks up a bit more. There's lots of fans that could be worrying about their teams prospects if this tournament was the be all and end all for them.
  10. Someone needs to relax. He doesn't need excuses you're right. He'll become the player he becomes regardless of you making predictions or not. All we can do as fans is hope for the best and look for positives. Go ahead and b!tch all you want though, it won't change anything.
  11. If he was putting up Hodgson like numbers in the world juniors would everyone be happy? What's he up to these days? I know people like to think this tournament proves which players will be stars and which will be busts, but it doesn't.
  12. He was also playing something like his 4th game in 5 nights, and his team leans on him heavily. I wouldn't judge his speed too much.
  13. In a season that there wasn't much to be excited about for Canucks fans, management needed some sort of story line to attract fans. That story line was having a bunch of young guys on the team. Unfortunately it seemed like they were going to give Jake a spot on the team no matter what. They needed to be able to trot out their prized prospect to the fans and say "here's the future". Problem is, you're right, he's not ready. For the sake of his development, I hope management admits they were wrong and do right by him. Otherwise I'm worried their future star is going to have his development stunted.
  14. Benning compared him to Datsyuk early in his career, but Datsyuk has never been known to hit. He reminds me more of Brendan Gallagher.
  15. I wouldn't say terrible skater, more awkward than anything. I think it was Ferraro that said in the World Juniors he skates like he has bambi legs. It's all part of him maturing physically. I remember people said the same thing about Chara.
  16. Not to mention they have to respect the other teams speed. Especially when they're tired from playing alot of hockey in a short amount of time.
  17. That's just a dumb schedule. They're obviously trying to cram too much into too short of a time frame.
  18. How stupid is that? What does that prove when one team is that exhausted?
  19. Well I was excited to see Boeser and Virtanen be impact players for their teams this year. Doesn't look like that is gonna happen. Hopefully they can step up in the important games though.
  20. 4.4 magnitude quake felt East of LA earlier tonight.
  21. Yea depends if you live in the city or not. I dunno about Richmond though, that place is in danger of getting sucked into the ocean.
  22. I think that's the biggest reason to stay inside. Once those power lines go down your more likely to get electrocuted than crushed. That and if the road opens up and swallows you whole.
  23. It's funny how we have no idea what to do. Your instincts tell you to get out of the building, but then you remember being taught to get under a desk.
  24. Seems to me like Jake is responsible for being the first forward back. Maybe the coach is expecting more from him because he's a returning player? He does have the speed to get back, but like with Horvat in the world juniors, having that responsibility takes away from a players offense.
