  1. As long as he can show up when it counts in the elimination games.
  2. Oh right, mixed up who played who. The Swedes.
  3. I thought Schmaltz and Boeser would have hit the ground running since they already have chemistry. It's good to see the coach trying Boeser with Matthews and Tkachuk though. That line had one dominant shift where the Swedes couldn't even touch them.
  4. Not NHL success no, but I was hoping it would at least be a big confidence booster. Still lots of tournament left though.
  5. Yep. When Nigel Dawes and Cody Hodgson can lead tournaments like this, it's quite obvious it's a different game than the NHL.
  6. Disappointing game for him today for sure. He needs to get way more involved in the play. It seems like he's lost right now. That being said, I saw the same thing with Duclair early on last year. It takes awhile for players coming from the NHL to adjust to this level again.
  7. I'll critique how a player is playing right now. I'm not gonna pretend to know their future though. I may have used to try and make predictions, but I realize it's pointless now. You'll always be wrong, there's too many variables.
  8. He doesn't need an excuse it was one game.
  9. Neither is a good way to predict a players future.
  10. Cue people overreacting and predicting his future based on one world junior game...
  11. I thought his second goal actually showed quite a bit of skill. The commentators didn't even really talk about it, but he took the pass on his backhand behind the goal line and quickly got it to his forehand and tucked it in. A pretty basic play but at the same time it showed that he has quick hands and poise with the puck. Some players might have panicked and bobbled the puck there. Hopefully this is a springboard for him to be an offensive leader for team Canada.
  12. I wonder if they're experimenting with Gaunce at center for a possible call up.
  13. Well unless he's a racist, nice people are nice people regardless. We also value nature and the outdoors here as well. That's a huge part of Minnesota lifestyle.
  14. I got that part thanks. I'm saying people (regardless of race) who have integrated into Canadian culture. The people that are polite and friendly and have certain values.
  15. I would say people from Minnesota and North Dakota are the most Canadian out of any of the states whether they realize it or not. I'm sure he'll feel right at home.
  16. There's definitely some huge differences. But there's also some similarities. People in Minnesota are pretty outdoorsy. Same with Vancouver.
  17. Minnesota is only a 3 hour flight from Vancouver, it's not like he's on the other side of the world.
  18. Kane will be a free agent at age 26. By that time if things go well we'll be in a position to challenge again. We can sign him then and not unload a bunch of prospects.
  19. I mean you hope he gives it his all no matter where he plays. But you would think it gives players a higher level of pride to play for their hometown team. I'd rather have players who really want to be here, rather than having players like Kesler who probably always imagined himself playing for an American team.
  20. He also wears a letter for North Dakota. Definitely a player Benning will be keeping an eye on.
  21. That would be great for Boeser. Not good for my hockey pool though. I was hoping Dvorak and Tkachuk would play together since they do in London.
  22. They may play together on the powerplay. I'm interested to see what Matthews can bring to this tournament. I'm sure Benning will be looking very closely at a handful of players there and determining whether it's worth it to sell at the deadline for a better shot.
  23. Lol. The fact that his scoring has basically been cut in half after being sent down shows that he likely doesn't have the character to be an NHLer. I have a feeling Willie probably vouched for him and was pushing Benning to get him. I don't think he'll be taking Willie's advice on trades in the future.
  24. I thought Vey was alright as a winger but as a center he was too soft. You can't get away with the same stuff you can as a winger. If they're basically the same, I go with Baertschi because he's younger and at least has more time to figure it out. Vey knew what he needed to do to get better over the summer, and I didn't see much improvement from him at all.
