Lol at people blaming the Aquilini's and Gillis for the weather. The NHL is running this event, not the Canucks just so you know. The amount of whining by this fan base makes it even harder to be a fan right now. Can we seriously stop with all the belly aching. Everyone has the same frustrations right now, it doesn't help to complain about every little move this team is making.

No, in a perfect world this team would have stayed a contender after 2011. Unfortunately all they've done since then is steadily decline. Keeping Kesler for the last two years of his contract and letting him walk is not what's best for the future of this franchise. We've done that in the past and look where it got us. I think it's best for Kesler and the team to part ways and have it be mutually beneficial. Kesler can go try and get a cup for himself, and the Canucks can start planning for the future. Cause as it stands right now, this team is more than a few moves away from getting back to being a top team.

Did you watch those games? He did everything he could but score for the Canucks. I can't remember one soft goal he's let in in his last 5 starts.

He will need to work on parts of his game like any young player. But his offensive abilities are world class without question. I see him being one of the best skating defenseman in the NHL when he enters his prime. There is always going to be some risk when trading for unproven players, even if we trade for a forward. We can't have both. Either we trade Kesler one for one for a top proven forward, or we're going to have to get a few less proven players. Edler is the player I see us trading to replace our center depth anyways. And I would say Ehrhoff was an elite puck moving defenseman that season, so I don't agree that we were without one. This season we're without one and they can't score to save their lives.

I was thinking more along the lines of thunderdome at BC place. Two men enter, one man leaves. SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! BE THERE!

Despres is a very overrated defenseman IMO. His stock rose after playing with Huberdeau on the Sea Dogs, but since then I haven't seen much from him that screams number 1 D-man. He should be a decent top 4, but I don't see him being a top 2. If we trade for a D prospect it has to be a home run. Without an elite puck mover, it doesn't matter how much offense we have, we'll still struggle to score.

I think Pittsburgh will make every effort to land Kesler. They're the second best team in the league right now and they got their butts handed to them by Chicago. They're not going anywhere without better defensive play. This is their next best chance at a cup this season. There's no guarantee that they'll keep getting these kinds of chances in the future. Hopefully their desperation rubs off on Philly too, and we get ourselves a good old fashioned bidding war.

A week ago nobody gave a crap about the winter classic and it was just another game. Now Luongo doesn't get the start and it's the biggest game of the season and a slap in the face to Lu. Fans really will complain about anything in this city.

Pouliot's IQ is off the charts. He's the best defenseman in junior right now outside of Ekblad IMO. He'll play a complete defensive game like Tanev, plus he can move the puck and put up points. Ask any scout, and there's not a whole lot of "maybe" with him. I dunno about you, but I can wait a couple seasons for a stud puck moving defenseman. You can't win cups without them.

So we should be rewarding Luongo with this game instead of going with the goalie that's playing better? I think the chances that this relationship was gonna end well ended long ago. The Canucks could care less about making Lu happy. They wanna win. Lack gives us the best chance to win right now. End of story.

Historically we have also never owned our own farm team and therefore have never had complete control over player development. I'm more optimistic about our prospects than I've ever been following this team. The next few years will be crucial in rebuilding this team back into a contender.

If we can somehow get a package of Schenn, Sutter, Pouliot, and a couple picks for Edler and Kesler I'd consider that a pretty big win. Suddenly our center depth moving forward looks like: Schenn Horvat Sutter Gaunce Our D depth looks like: Tanev Stanton Pouliot Corrado Add to that potentially having 3 first round picks in the upcoming draft, and we would be in a much better position for the future.

We haven't had much cap space to go after big name free agents recently. Which is probably a good thing. Building a team through free agency is the worst method for building a team. This summer we should have a ton of cap space to sign at least one big name though. The rest needs to be done through trading and developing from within.

Players understand that hockey is a business. Lu was outplayed by a younger, better, cheaper goalie. Not to mention he was the one that requested a trade. From the sounds of it the organization did everything it could to move Lu, but there was no one willing to take on his massive contract. Both sides can share the blame for that one. I don't think Vancouver will have a problem attracting free agents. It's still a great city with a passionate fanbase, and ownership that will spend whatever it takes to win. Those are the 3 most important things to players.
