  1. It's not that complicated. It's about getting more production out of players that get paid less by analyzing stats. Having youth in the lineup is a must in the cap era.
  2. "Decline" being the key word. This is not decline, this is a complete drop off. Kesler was on pace for 40 in the first half of the season. But then he went cold at the same time as everyone else. It's not just the core players we're seeing struggle either. It's across the board. This team looks lost in the offensive zone. You would think they don't even practice with a puck in practice.
  3. When you see a drastic dropoff in scoring like this the season a new coach is hired, I think it's safe to say the coaching has something to do with it. This team is not as bad as they're playing. And when it's the entire team struggling, it's usually an indicator of poor coaching.
  4. In 06/07 we were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league. So he coached a style that would allow us to win, which was trap hockey. (it helped that Luongo had a Vezina caliber season too). Then in 10/11 he made a 180 with how he coached his team and they were the highest scoring team in the league. That's adaptability right there. Something a coach has to have. Tortorella's gotta adapt his coaching for this group, because no one on this team is playing well right now. That's on the coaching staff to get these guys rolling again.
  5. Well the good news is I think Tortorella has become a much more honest and reflective guy this season. So hopefully he's smart enough to realize his old ways aren't working and that it might be time to take a new approach with this team.
  6. Having players with cheap ELC's contributing more than their salary? I would argue that's exactly how the moneyball system works.
  7. With only 6 goals in 5 games, you would have thought this would be a good time to give Jensen a game. This guy is a goal scorer and that's why we drafted him. He's been playing great lately, and I can't see him playing any worse than Daniel or Burrows. That was a missed opportunity to sit Daniel for a game IMO.
  8. We never went on a stretch of only 4 wins in 20 games under AV. AV had a system that utilized his players to their strengths. This team looks like it has no system, and I'm convinced they don't even work on offensive zone plays in practice. The powerplay is also the worst it has been at any time in the last 6 years.
  9. Bottom line is you can't have your top players go 20+ games without scoring and expect to win. This team goes as the Sedins and Burrows go. The fact that we've been in most of these games with zero contribution from them is promising. If these guys can ever get going, we're going to win games. You gotta think that they'll pick it up soon. Hopefully the break will get Henrik healthy and refreshed, and allow Burrows to get that stupid cage off his face and reset mentally.
  10. Schroeder was drafted in 2009. He's been pretty solid, but he's not a first liner yet, and it doesn't help that he's playing with two guys that can't buy a goal. Hodgson also got us Kassian who was a 2009 pick. But I agree, we needed more role players and depth guys to pan out in those drafts. Sauve was a big swing and a miss when Schultz was still on the board.
  11. And we're only 5 points out of third in our division. I'd rather look up. As bad as the Canucks have been, LA has been almost as bad during this stretch. Even if we have a small chance to do something in the playoffs, I would take that over a top 10 pick that may not even develop into an impact player.
  12. No players who can play grinding "chip the puck out" hockey. Not to mention this teams ego is still pretty fragile. You think yelling at them and calling out respected guys like Hamhuis in front of his teammates is really gonna improve things?
  13. Yep, I hate to say I told you so, but Tortorella was not the right choice for this team. Everyone loves his interviews, but at the end of the day he can only coach one style of hockey, and the Canucks just don't have those types of players.
  14. This team needs this break badly. They look like they're toast. Hopefully they can reset and pull an LA to end the season. That's about their only hope now.
  15. lack of scoring is the GM's fault. Our forwards have been healthy through most of the slump.
  16. Horvat ends the night with 3 points, two of them while short handed. Domi ends the night with 3 points, all of them on the powerplay. That's the difference between Horvat and Domi.
  17. That's the story of this team this season. Lots of pressure with no finish, then one breakdown and they get scored on. Unbelievable.
  18. I would even take a couple lateral moves at this point just to get some new attitudes in the room.
  19. Is just making it enough though? I haven't seen anything out of this team to tell me they can go all the way. They just don't play smart hockey, and that's a recipe for failure as we're seeing.
  20. Hopefully getting blown out by the Bruins will be the last straw and some decisions will finally be made. Time to stop pretending. Either add some pieces that will make a difference or pack it in and start rebuilding.
  21. At least we have some good young pieces to build around. I could care less if we trade any other core player. If they don't wanna show enough heart and compete, why should I support them? Time to start the rebuild this summer, if not sooner. These guys have shown they just don't have what it takes.
  22. Haha, f*cking refs... Kesler mauled and gets a penalty. Zetterberg jumps into the boards and Burrows gets a penalty.
  23. If the team played with half as much heart as Lack they would be winning alot more games.
