  1. Well it's up to Gillis to call these young players up from the farm, which he hasn't been doing. I would say AV has given the young players a pretty fair shot when they earn it. Grabner was given quite a few chances in the top 6, Hodgson was given PP time and at point was right in the mix for the Calder. And then there's Tanev, who was used regularly, and earned a spot on the bottom pairing. Kassian is still a work in progress, but he's still only 21. The only player I don't think AV realy gave a fair chance to was Shirokov. I thought he deserved a little bit more of a chance to see what he could do. Oh well, not every player is always gonna be given a fair shot.
  2. 4 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games. Not too shabby. He's also on the front page of the OHL website for being player of the week.
  3. 6 points in 9 games in December. 2 points off last years December pace, but he is playing a much better all around game. He has always seemed to play best in January and February, so expect him to continue rolling. He could really use Sweatt back. Those two have great chemistry. A Sweatt - Schroeder - Kassian line would be pretty good.
  4. ^^ Yea he's on a great defensive team that's going to help him become an elite two-way player, which is an aspect of his game that seems quite well developed. People say he's on a bad team because they don't have alot of high end offensive talent, which is true. And they have relied on Subban quite a bit. But it's the system that the team employs that makes them so successful. And also makes them the lowest scoring team in the league. But ultimately it will make Gaunce better suited for the next level. Because the thing most players struggle with at the next level is their defensive games. He'll have already had 4 years in the OHL perfecting that aspect. His offensive game is something that can be developed more at the AHL level.
  5. Gaunce having a great game so far with 1 goal and 2 assists. these are the types of games he should be having in his third year in the OHL.
  6. Just to give some perspective, Schroeder had 9 points at the 23 game mark last season. He has 14 points at the 23 game mark this season. So there is improvement no matter how slight it may be. He also went on to put up 25 points in 34 games after the first 23 last season. So look for him to start picking things up now. He's always been a slower starter, ever since he was on the Gophers.
  7. Tell us oh wise one, who else will be busts in the future? Maybe you can call up Gillis and help him with his selections in the next draft.
  8. Landon Ferraro is better? No chance. He couldn't even put up a point a game in the WHL, and had a grand total of 20 points last season in the AHL. He has 1 more point than Schroeder in the same amount of games this season, and Schroeder has more goals. Ferraro will be a Mason Raymond type player at best. Johansson was most likely on their list, but they decided they couldn't pass on Schroeder because many scouts had him ranked much higher than 22nd. He doesn't look like a homerun pick yet, but time will tell if he becomes a decent NHLer.
  9. Yep, Pinizzotto left Saturday night's game and didn't return. Hopefully it's not his shoulder again. Archibald and Kassian up front on the powerplay wreaking havoc. And it's pretty sad we have to call up Blain to run the powerplay. If Connauton was doing his job they wouldn't need to.
  10. Finally a player that can hold his own in front of the other teams net. Kes can fill that role, but he's too important to the team's success to be the only one standing there taking the abuse all the time. We need him healthy for playoffs.
  11. You ever heard of trying to increase the value of your assets? Gillis does that sort of thing with our prospects and players all the time. Florida doesn't wanna trade either of these guys because they are the succession plan for Florida for the number 1 and 2 center. There's no way they trade either one unless they get a top center prospect back.
  12. He's their top center, and he's a shutdown guy. He plays against the OHL's best forwards, which is quite a talented group of players right now. I wouldn't worry too much about it. He struggled a bit getting on the right side of the +/- early, but since that bad start, he's rarely a minus player.
  13. Classic case of someone undervaluing our players, and overvaluing other teams players. The guy has probably never even seen Bjugstad play. He just sees that name tossed around on here, and assumes that he's a star prospect. Bjugstad is a top prospect, but he's still very unproven, and it's not like he's setting the world on fire in the WCHA. There would have to be more on their end for that deal to ever happen.
  14. He's back already? I thought he was out till December... This guy's a fast healer. Great to see!
  15. It's just a numbers game right now, and he was one of the casualties of it. He's better than a guy like Desbiens, I can tell you that. He'll be the first call-up for the Wolves once the NHL season resumes.
  16. I agree he definitely needs to shoot more. He's got a wicked wrister that he doesn't use enough. His problem seems to be getting in a position to shoot though. He's gotta get better at moving laterally and getting around defenders to get in better positions.
  17. The thing is, Schroeder is a setup guy. He can only get points if his linemates finish off his passes. So him not piling up the points is just a testament to the lack of offense on the Wolves. They are currently 15th in the league for goals for, and last season they were 16th. So their offensive problems really haven't been solved, and having their captain do nothing isn't helping either.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Nice bit of stick handling by Rodin to set up a goal.
  19. Goal by Schroedr against the Admirals. Only video I could find. Nice stick handling by Rodin to set him up.
  20. They said the exact same thing about Hodgson. Skating can be improved.
  21. Are they at a bowling alley? Just some good old fashion wholesome fun for them!
  22. Ebbett was horrible. I don't know why he was the first line center. Kassian made some nice plays to him and he had no finish. Kass needs a better centerman. Time to drop Ebbett to the third line and have Schroeder number 1, and Mallet number two.
  23. He obviously wasn't agile enough then... Schroeder's got some moves, but he needs the confidence to use them more. He's a more skilled played than just playing straight line hockey, but he needs to start showing it.
  24. I was a little disappointed in Schroeder's game. Sure he was noticeable and was using his speed. But he wasn't using it in an effective way. Too much Raymond style, going to the outside and circling the perimeter. He's gotta learn, that for a player his size, the last thing he wants to do is get in puck battles. Stay AWAY from the boards. He's gonna be most effective driving up the middle full speed and forcing defenders back. Then he's gotta use his agility to get into areas that he can get the puck on the net, or set up one of his teammates. If he thinks he's gonna win battles along the boards, he's not gonna be very successful in the NHL.
