Both of Rodin's goals were pretty flukey. But give him credit for shooting the puck. Good things happen when you do that. Schroeder had a really good game from the looks of it. Could have easily had a hat trick.

Yep, Wolves won 5-2. Rodin with two and Schroeder with 1! That`s what we need to see more of from these guys. Keep it up!
  3. He's big, he's got soft hands, and he's got a mean streak. The only thing missing right now is a good work ethic, which he will have to learn if he wants to get back into the AHL, and then into the NHL. Anytime a player can do that in a game, it's pretty impressive no matter what league it's in. The guy definitely has confidence.
  4. Nope, actually he went on to score goals in his next two games. So thanks, Lalonde was it? Not really sure who that is.
  5. Right after I post that, he has a 2 point night (1G, 1A) in a 2-1 Wolves win. I guess I should criticize him more often.
  6. I agree, he's a long way from being considered a bust. But it doesn't change the fact that this kid seriously needs to pick it up. He's in his second season in the AHL now, there's no more excuses about being new to the league. He's on pace for about 26 points right now. That's not good at all, that means he's actually regressing, which you never wanna see in a players development. To me, there seemed to be alot of arrogance from Schroeder early on, and rightfully so since he's a very skilled player. But this may be one of the biggest reasons, along with his size, why scouts avoided him. Because a player can have all the skill in the world, but if they don't have the work ethic, they're not going anywhere. I think I remember hearing Schroeder in an interview say that his first season taught him how hard he has to work to take the next step. I think that maybe he thought the transition into the AHL was alot easier than it would be. Hopefully he did put in the work over the summer, and he heats up in the second half of the season as he was known to for the Gophers. I really think that last season for the Gophers hurt his development though. If he had played in the WHL, I think he would be alot further along now. Oh well.
  7. Every highlight package I watch of the Wolves has Schroeder making an unbelievable pass and his linemate not being able to finish. This guy's talents are being wasted playing with AHL plugs. Hopefully other parts of his game are rounding out nicely though.
  8. Archibald was a free signing. Didn't cost us a draft pick. It was worth the gamble for a big bodied power forward like him. He may still work out too. Tochkin, Erixon, and Schneider were all also free signings. Anthony was a 7th round pick and Andersson was a 5th round pick. Ellington was never given a contract by Gillis, he was a Nonis signing. All of these guys are long shots, Gillis is well aware of that. He's not gonna be afraid to hand out contracts though. Contracts can always be moved if they don't work out. The more young prospects in your pool at one time the better your odds of developing an NHLer. If just one of them works out, it will be considered a success.

Rodin splits the D and gets a goal at 2:22.
  10. I'm really surprised with his lack of production. I thought with the way he was rolling at the end of his last OHL season, he would carry that confidence right through to the AHL and dominate. He's clearly got the size and skill, but maybe he just doesn't have the hustle. I would at least hope that MacT is using him as a screen on the powerplay. Anyone know who his linemates are?
  11. Pretty sure he's playing with a bunch of plugs last time I checked. From everything I've seen he's been all over the ice making plays, his linemates just can't convert. It's the reason why the Wolves are one of the lowest scoring teams in the AHL. Not sure if MacT knows how to coach offense...
  12. Schroeder's goal at 1:47. Horrible play by the D-man, but good for Schroeder for capitalizing.

Rodin's snipe show at 1:09. Nice heads up play by Climie.
  14. Nice end to end rush by Schroeder at 3:05, plus a shootout goal by him:

Yea, he was going to be a high first round pick, until GMs interviewed him and realized he had serious attitude problems. It's the same reason he got kicked off his national team. There's a long list of reports of bone headed hings this guy has done like missing practices, being late for the team bus, trashing his home country, refusing to play, jumping on the ice before his coach tells him. You can blame it on his dad all you want, but the kids 18 years old now. He shouldn't be this immature. It's clear that he believes that he is some sort of superstar, when really he's a nobody yet. I wouldn't want him on my team.

Kabanov is a head case and doesn't have the drive to make it in the NHL. He'll likely sign some big contract in the KHL and we won't see him again. They've definitely got the makings of a serious offensive core though. Maybe a little bit too soft, but they've got a ton of speed and skill. They still need to add to their defensive core and get a serious goaltender in there, and then they're set. The question is, do they get to that point before the team goes under or not.

You may have defended Grabner when he was here, I can't remember. If you did, you and I were in the minority. The truth is, most people on this site thought he was a bust and were constantly including him in trade proposals. (kind of like they're doing with Hodgson now) Funny how so many people were willing to throw him away in trade packages before he broke out. Then Gillis does and now everyone's whining how we should have never traded him. Let this just be a lesson to not give up on players too soon. Rodin will be a great player, but he might need some time to get there. Be patient!

I don't think too many players have the speed that Grabner does. But Rodin is pretty fast, and has a great shot like Grabner. I think Rodin has better moves than Grabner though, and can also battle for pucks better. Both are great players, but I think Rodin will develop into a better all around player, whereas Grabner wil become more of a pure goal scorer.
  19. They do have really great scouting don't get me wrong. It just gets annoying that everyone seems to think that everything they touch turns to gold. Since they drafted Datsyuk and Zetterberg in late rounds, it's like every pick or player they sign is going to be an automatic star. When in reality, the draft is just as much of a crap shoot for them, as it is for every other team.
  20. Because players have never developed past the age of 20 right? Detroit has given up on lots of players that have went on to do well, Ville Leino being one of them. I'm sick of people pretending like Detroit are the masters of scouting. They have made some pretty bad moves to go along with their good moves, just like every other team.

The SEL and the Danish League ARE pro leagues whether you consider them ones or not. The fact remains that both Rodin and Jensen have played against much bigger and stronger players. As for Archibald, he's only played in the OHL, but he dominated with his skill and his physical game. Depending on what kind of work he did this summer, he could be closer than people think. There's a difference between weighing a certain weight, and being physically strong. Sweatt needs to work on his physical strength so that he can win more puck battles. We'll see what kind of shape he comes to camp in though. I hope he does do really well.

I already assume that Hodgson and Tanev will make the team, so I'm not even including them. Who's gonna replace Kesler in the first month of the season? If the team decides to try Malhotra, Lapierre, or Higgins, and not their highly touted young centerman, then this franchise is going to have a hard time developing players. A better opportunity like this for Hodgson won't come along. I also see Tanev having more faith placed in him from the coaching staff than Sulzer will get. He's proven that he can play on the biggest stage, and I don't see him learning much more in the minors. Tanev will stick as the 8th defenceman. Sweatt is also not ready from what I've seen. His decision making with the puck leads to turnovers, so he needs to work on that. He also needs to bulk up a bit if he wants to play the style of game that he does.

How are they controversial? You seemed to agree with me about Rodin. Archibald has the same size and skating ability as some of the other potential fourth liners, but he has better junior numbers. When his competition is Victor Oreskovich and Byron Bitz, all he has to do is be as physical as them since his skill is superior to theirs. Don't underestimate Archibald, he's got skills and can skate well for a big guy. Like I said, Jensen is a long shot. But at the same time, everyone expected Hodgson to make the team after he was drafted. Even though he was drafted 19 picks lower, I would argue he is more NHL than Hodgson was at 18, purely based on his combo of size, skill, and skating ability. If he has the confidence, don't be surprised if he makes some serious noise.

My three picks for prospects that have a chance to stick with the big club are Rodin, Archibald, and Jensen. Rodin because of his skating and work ethic. He has the ability to be a more skilled, less physical version of Hansen. Archibald because of his size and nastiness, and our need for good fourth line players. Jensen because of his combo of size and skill, and our need for a temporary replacement for Raymond. He's more of a long shot, but he has the confidence of already playing in a men's league, so you never know.

It's just his body adjusting to the rigors of being a full-time hockey player. The tendinitis should go away in time, and he'll be fine.
