[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
DeNiro replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Michael Stone placed on IR today, Calgary with rumoured interest. My guess is he’s going to Calgary. Whether it’s part of a bigger deal we’ll see. -

I’m prepared to be underwhelmed. Hoping for a 2nd, expecting a 3rd or a 4th. -

22 year old vs a 30 year old. His contract is also very buyout friendly. It could be a good trade if he’s not the main piece coming back. -

Which is often what happens to 35 year old players and why there’s such a risk. You’re ignoring the possibility of flipping the assets we acquire for him and using the cap space more wisely. We could very well turn those things into a young cost controlled center and two D men. Right now I doubt Petey is looking at this team and seeing a winner even with Miller on it. So I don’t think that will play a big part in their decision making. -

That’s what I’m hopeful for but things still need to go right. Meaning making smart cap decisions, smart trades and signings, and acquiring as many assets as we can. In 4-5 years the picks we make in this upcoming draft could be ready to contribute on their ELCs. That’s crucial to pushing us over the top, and why we need to be looking at every option to add more picks. -

More quick fixes. Sounds like the Benning plan all over again. -

Nope and no one’s arguing that. It’s all about what he provides the team in 4-5 years when the team is looking to contend. Bad contracts can absolutely hurt that goal. I think some fans think we can be better sooner than what’s likely. And that’s fine, I’ve been hopeful like that too. But when you stop and look at how long contenders have taken to build it’s obvious we’re not close. -

We’re not close to building a contender. Will we be in the next 4-5 years? Possible if everything goes really well. Thats a pretty short window of Miller being productive and his contract being an anchor. -

And are we a playoff team this year or next year? All that matters is when we’re trying to build a contender is Miller’s contract hurting that goal. Cup contenders have contracts that are providing value, not hurting your ability to add depth. -

When you’ve got inflated contracts it’s hard to fill out other parts of your roster so yes his timeline does absolutely matter. Just look at the teams that are stuck because they signed players to too much for too long. -

All that matters is building a team that can make the playoffs every season, not just once. If trading Miller can build a foundation for that you do it. If you can accomplish that other ways and keep him you can do that too. Holding onto him because we’re afraid of taking a step back is not a good reason though. Those short sighted decisions will keep us bad for much longer. -

He probably injured himself cheapshoting Petey. He didn’t know there was solid steel under that uniform. -

That would have been true before we beat the Flyers. A win by them and we’ll be 1 point back of fourth. Still closing in. -

Sitting players out for “trade purposes” is the new fad in tanking. -

Ducks had no business being in that game. As soon as they turned it on Anaheim folded. Happy they managed to get a point. Good thing is that Florida win moves them ahead of the Isles. Win-win. -

Zaitsev is playing for the Sens. Wonder if they’re revisiting that trade.
