  1. Quinn Hughes with a legible autograph....good on ya kid! Nice being able to read the autograph rather than a couple lines and a number sometimes to go along with it. I get they sign a lot of things over their career, so I hope Quinn keeps his the same way.
  2. High expecations when you are selected 6th overall. And you will never get away from "tools" if you are using the interwebs or any social media
  3. I agree he was drafted as a LW in junior. He is built like Ovie, who also plays the off wing. Would love to see him get a long look on the LW, but we are quite deep on the right side...
  4. you need to have more tools that just speed tho. but yes he is quick
  5. he shows glimpses but like coach Green said we need to see that on as close to a nightly basis as possible then yes he will be an effective, useful, productive player for us. Minimum 20g a year if he can be engaged, wonder if he can turn into a PK specialist using his speed and be a scoring threat like former Canuck Grabner?
  6. That is unfortunate to hear. I think it was Craig Button that had him way lower in the draft due to his low hockey IQ, maybe Button was right about that. Kind of sad if he doesn't know where he needs to be after being around the club for a few years now. I want him to succeed but his chances are running out with the Canucks, 1 maybe 2 more years before we might see him moved if he can't improve
  7. Sad to see his dad looking that frail. If the outlook was grim I would understand Boeser wanting to be by his side. What would be wise tho is for the team to come out and say Brock is taking a leave of absence to be with his family during this difficult time. That would put 0 pressure on a deal and 99.9% of fans, media and his teammates would be totally understanding. I am not sure if it is that dire but his dad looks quite frail, hard to battle illnesses when it takes that much out of you
  8. Of the remaining RFA's none are a true compareable to Brock. All have been healthy and all but Konecny have produced more offensively or in Connor's case has a very well polished 2 way game with PK reliability
  9. Trading a cheaper #3C for Sutter and overpaying him before he plays a second for us was a smart idea? Trading a young McCann with a wicked wrist shot for a big, slower RHD was a smart choice? Trading draft picks when we were suppose to rebuild and stock up on picks for waiver fodder players like Vey? Moving a promising young D prospect after a strong WJC showing for Clendenning? Overpaying a cup winning #4C for 4 years with a ntc when we already had Sutter and you could have signed countless other C for half the cost. Structure of Loui's contract to make us stuck with him, let alone the term...we were rebuilding at the time of the signing.... Giving Edler and Myers NMC so we can't try to move them. I don't mind the 2 signings but both players didnt deserve NMC, limited NTC max, neither are Norris D, Edler even got a 1m raise. For a guy who didnt want to leave the city we should have played hardball with him and said sure we will sign you but take a pay cut, a big one if you want a NMC. Signing Miller to a 3 year deal when we really should have just stayed the course and got a higher pick and sold of other players? That along with LE signing was us trying to sign a couple players and try make the playoffs with an aging team past its prime and no prospects. yes he made a couple decent trades, and struck gold with EP, lets see how Quinn holds up he has the skill, just needs to be elusive and keep his head up. What about the Jake or OJ picks? Neither have proven their worth considering who we could have selected. How can you not include Gagner, we traded him away and had to buyout the guy we got in return... Schaller was a NOT needed type of signing. The structure of Hutton's deal was poor. Where are our 2nd round picks or later who are helping us? Gadj has foot speed issues in the AHL, Lind, I have some hope for still. Gaud is the only player outside the 1st round we can say is on or is close to being on our NHL roster who wasn't a 1st round pick. That is over 5 years...that ain't so impressive. Now I am being harsh, but some Canuck fans need to take the elton john rose coloured glasses off and realize this team should have started a full on rebuild and gotten way more picks and prospects over the last 5 years to have a shot at finding more NHL caliber players. There is no crystal ball or magic formula to take over a team and win a cup, mistakes are made but to say GM JB has excelled at his job would be a lie imo. . I have some hope, since BB is not signed it leads me to believe JB is not bending to get a deal done.
  10. None of what I posted had an reference to Mr. Boeser. I was talking about the Goalie
  11. It would, for me its 2/3 year bridge deal or minimum 6 year deal so we buy at least 1 year of UFA
  12. I think Werenski and McAvoy are betting on themselves and will be making a couple M more than Provorov annually on their next deals if they continue in the right direction. Provorov, Morrissey and Keller too guaranteed longer term $ security
  13. The remaining RFA are all still in a slightly different class than Brock. Konecny is the only RFA that will likely make LESS than BROCK. BB can't compare the these other RFA's as much as he and his agent might like to think so. He doesn't have 30 or 40g seasons under his belt, he doesnt have near or over ppg pt average over an 82 game season. With our additions in the summer, Jake lurking with some potential and GAUD possibly impressing enough in camp they slot him in as a RW. I don't see why Brock holding out will do him any good. It is just a topic we will discuss to death until he signs, but we could easily go into the regular season WITHOUT him and be quite a bit better than last year. Stay strong JB don't cave in to a bad deal...
  14. Has to suck to be a G in camp, so many breakaways or man advantages, little D play in front of you. As for Gaud, maybe he shifts to RW and slots in for the holdout? I'm sure Gaud could score and play well alongside Pistol Pete, who can't tho...
  15. I think BB wants a shorter term deal. JB likely wants a deal taking him into his later 20s. Brock's agent is trying to avoid that with the cap going up like some have suggested with the new TV deal. I just dont get why this drags on. Make an offer, its rejected and likely a counter offer is presented. At this point they have to say okay can we at least agree on the term of the deal, then you work out the cap hit and how the SB will work. These negotiations shouldn't take weeks, months etc to complete. Do they not talk for weeks at a time after an offer is submitted!?
  16. Not that I know of, has anyone met Hughes in person and gotten an autograph to get a in person perspective of how short/tall he is?
  17. Chia Pet, Neely and JB. Chia did horrible on his own, JB hasn't done that well here really, made horrible signings, trades are a mix of some good more not so good. Helps when you have some prime players who just keep playing well as they age in boston's case. Good coaching too
  18. Hard to say with that though. Brock is a great sniper and he should be a perennial 40g guy imo with Pistol Pete as his C creating offense. We haven't hit a home run with all our top 10 picks either so who knows if we were to pick a stud or a bit of a dud with that compensation pick. Not worth the risk, Montreal should have offer sheeted Point vs Aho imo, Carolina had lots of cap space vs TB, either way it would get matched, it would have had to gone to the next bracket for a team to let go of Aho or Point imo
  19. If this was training camp of 2020 and we missed the playoffs the year before and we HAD to give TB our 1st rounder I would agree moer with your opening line. But as of now we have a year before that becomes a bigger issue
  20. Keller took a lucrative life changing guaranteed long term contract. Brock may have had a similar offer from the Canucks in July of 2018 and he chose to bet on himself being healthy all year and scoring 40g to cash in big this summer, that didn't happen though. I think Keller was smart, he took a great contract offer and signed it. All it takes is 1 injury to potentially screw up or even end your career. Arizona seems to be trying to keep guys and get more competitive. They signed OEL who I thought they would deal, traded for Kessel and now signed Keller long term. Doubt they will ever be a power house but they are trying to be competitive and with the Keller signing they may be paying up big now for him but they hope he can get better and will produce more offensively going forward.
  21. Too much imo, and to be honest we dont miss him, its training camp. we would miss him a few weeks into the year if we were struggling to score goals, which I think we have added some depth in that department anyway. I am not a very big fan of GM JB, but if he is playing hardball to some degree with Brock and not caving in then I give him mad props for doing that. You got to prove your worth to net a nice bige fat payday short or long term
  22. 5.5m short term is paying up for Brock imo, not by much but it is by a bit. He doesn't have much leverage imo. With our additions this summer we could start the year without him and would still be a better team. All the rfa's have proven more than Brock, Laine is his closest 1 dimensional compareable and he has a 40 plus goal season and 2 - 30 or more G seasons under his belt. Brock hasn't achieved any of that, sure you can pro-rate his stats over a full 82 game season, but that shouldn't be how you give any player a contract. He needs to prove he can be healthy all season and then produce at a higher level.
  23. He does yup, but next July we could extend him. It is not wise to gift these young kids a burnt year off their contract, it really shouldn't be allowed. We did it for Brock, he played a handful of games, got to see what the NHL was like, fans got a short glimpse of him. Now, after 2 non full years he is an rfa holding out so far wanting a contract the Canucks are unwilling to give him. I hope history doesn't repeat itself with hughes in a couple years
  24. Boeser sign a similar type deal!? That is probably what he should get for a bridge imo. Good signing for Boston, McAvoy like Werenski can cash in on next deal if they perform well
