Bob McKenzieVerified account @TSNBobMcKenzie 8m8 minutes ago More Charlie McAvoy has agreed to terms with BOS. Three-year deal, $4.9M AAV. Very similar to Zach Werenski’s three-year, $5M AAV deal with CBJ. McAvoy could make up the $300K difference because his Year 3 salary, and Qualifying Offer base, is $7.3M, $300K more than Werenski’s. 47 replies289 retweets607 likes Reply 47 Retweet 289 Like 607

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Being home with your ill father is more important dont get me wrong. But he can still do that while be signed to a contract, he has not signed a contract. Look at Big Buff he has taken a personal leave from the Jets, a team is not going to deny a player a personal leave especially for someone in Brock's situation. To say he hasn't signed his contract because of his dad is false, Brock still had time to enjoy his summer and do things he wanted outside of being by his dad's side. So he has had time to talk to his agent and the Canucks, fine common ground and get a deal done before it went into training camp -
People are hard on Jake because he was such a high draft pick, lots is expected of him and the players after him have had more success in the league so far. It is only natural for fans/media etc to compare a players drafted close together early on in the draft. 20g should be him having a bad year imo, but I feel his hockey IQ is not as high as other top players and that is causing him to struggle a bit, he looks lost or unsure of what to do on the ice sometimes. An athlete should know they need to come into camp in amazing shape, will there be rust for sure! Jake is no longer a 19 or 20 yr old kid. He must start to show bigger gains as a player at his age now. We brought in players who will surpass him in the line up. I think management knows what they have in Jake and that is why they went out to get some more bonafide top 6 help in JT Miller and Ferland. Hopefully Jake can learn from those 2 guys and improve his game

I agree, these players are still so young and are coming across as greedy with these holdouts. Have any of them won scoring titles or any NHL hardware...been the focal point of a cup winner? Marner, Point, Tkachuk, Laine, Connor, Rantanen- all highly skilled players dont get me wrong, but all of them and their teams they played on did squat in the playoffs...when it counts and the games get more intense. Leafs have over 30m in 3 guys and have 2 high profile D coming up for UFA in the next couple years plus their G, but still can't find a way to win a playoff round with one of the best coaches in the world. $ doesn't buy championships Brock has much to show and improve upon still. His skating is decent but not elite, he is not a pk guy we rely on. Top paid players have to be extremely well rounded imo.
-
To be noted they were a package deal, so probably took less than what they could have got. Today's version is Toews and Kane. Having to elite player up for contracts the same summer is not ideal in the cap world...unless your a bottom feeder. We will have EP and Hughes to sign at the same time, maybe we sign EP next summer and Hughes before he hits rfa the following summer?

I find it puzzling why Jake would duck fans and not sign autographs on back to back days when every other player is willing to do that. If this isn't an acceptable time for him to do that for the fans...I dont know when is. This is a low pressure time, it is the start of camp, not like its the stretch drive for a playoff run or something... A pro athlete has to be professional on and off the ice. If fans didnt pay to go watch the games athletes would make less $. If he doesn't like the pressure of playing here then he needs to go have a talk with JB if he isn't willing to put in the work or be graceful towards the fans and spend a small amount of time signing autographs.
-
Myers...was he not stuck behind Big Buff and Trouba in Winnipeg?
-
Cap was far lower though. Nylander makes under 7m and had 2 solid years. Any Canuck fan would be quite happy if we could get Brock to sign for that same contract imo.
-
No need to rush him, even if he has a great camp let him go get some more seasoning in Utica and help that team hopefully have a better season. Can't see him beating out any of: Edler Myers Hughes Tanev Benn Stecher No point imo having him be #7D. Biega has served that role well and this new guy Fantenberg...who knows he didnt play much in Calgary so not sure what he can bring or do other than be an injury replacement type guy
-
Are you trolling or serious? Myers was 3rd pairing last year when Jets were healthy. SJS Vlasic Burns- That pair easily beats your canuck pair
-
that is too risky in my books, he can walk a year later by accepting his QO. Brock doesn't deserve 7m per unless its long term. He has NOT broken 30g or 60pts. Be a mistake to give Brock 7m short term

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Just a side note but Marner said he wanted to get a deal done to be with the guys at camp. He had more leverage as the team point leader and realized the importance of signing and being at camp. I hope Brock wants to be with his teammates, especially his new winger flanking the other side and wants to start building chemistry asap. Not to be sour, but if Brock wants a high cap hit north of 7m but not want to go into a longer deal then I am fine with him holding out. Would he be missed sure, But this year we have JT Miller and ferland joining the roster both will add enough scoring to make up for Brock and it might give Jake an opportunity to get a look in the top 6 which I would like to see what he can do with offensive players- could be the 3rd wheel that gets points! -
Nice to hear, I hope he plays with more of an edge this year and runs more guys over and can get his shot more accurate. If its not too much to ask, when he drive to the net, hold on to the puck, get passed the goalie and flick it in the air into the empty net!
-
I hope so, going to get paid millions regardless. End goal is to win a cup, that takes an entire team not 1 player. Hope it doesnt drag on too much longer as it will just be annoying to read about daily now that hockey is back! When he signs, either for an overpayment or a steal in CDC eyes at least that will be looked over and we can watch Brock and see how he does. If he score 40g nobody will care if he make near or over 8m. I think he can be a 40g guy in this league so I want a long term deal 6 yr minimum in my books

that happens daily

[Signing] Wild re-sign Jared Spurgeon
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yup, that is why I would rather go long term with Brock, EP and Quinn in future years. If we sign Brock to a shorter deal his next deal would command max years and be a high ticket player into his late 30s, not ideal likely not going to live up to the contract thru the end -
That skate tank top jersey Benn was wearing...where does 1 buy that!? I saw some chick rocking one last week when I was driving. I would buy that for sure
-
He has the size, looks good when he was in the OHL, but now he is against men and slower foot speed is not a good thing in today's NHL. I hope he can carve out a role as an NHL player one day but it will be a process by the sounds of it.
-
How did Demko look, let in the 5 goals, but did he make some nice saves? Hoping he has a solid year and will be our #1 going forward and not have to pay Marky big bucks long term for a goalie nearing 30. My take on Jake is this: He is never going to be thin, he is built like Ovechkin. Who also happens to be a pure sniper, who hits and skates well...to this day in his 30s with the frame he has. So Jake may get more gassed then other guys and it is to be expected at the beginning of camp. The key is how quickly can he up his cardio and be than hard nosed forechecker who finishes his checks by using his speed to create mayhem...that can also snipe goals if he can pinpoint his shot more and pick those corners. I hope Jake can put it all together, but I can see why fans would be uneasy about his start. Trade him now for JP is what those people will be wanting. Jake knows our coach, he knows what to expect so he has to put that effort in and do what the coach wants. If he does he hopefully will get rewarded...if he doesn't the leash is only going to be so long, eventually all teams cut ties with players who dont seem to "get it" in the teams eyes of course. Goldy is in the same position but will be let go or moved on before Jake
-
looks like elf p40 DO any hockey players sign a legible autograph?
-
Yup, I agree that is a move that needs to be made, we all wanted Eriksson gone but JB didnt deliver moving him out. He has to move out some players/cap somehow. Guess he can just do the easy thing and waive 1,2,3 players and save slightly over 1m on each of them...Not a very good GM move or lose a player like Goldy on waivers for free. Our biggest goal after the regular season ended was to sign Brock Boeser, ideally to a longer term deal and to AVOID a situation like W.Nylander. Now I do NOT believe it will drag on nearly that long, but missing camp is missing camp. Especially when we have some new players that are suppose to be good and just so happy 1 of them will be flanking Brock on the opposite wing. If we are indeed able to sign him to a higher priced deal and not risk cap issue by paying him north of 7m long term then I am not too sure why this deal is NOT done. Tkachuk has performed better and should get more than Brock. Connor, thats a compareable type deal imo for Brock. Same as the recently signed Keller, not the same pt totals as Brock but has NOT had good linemates, see what he can do with Kessel this year?
-
I don't think Winnipeg is going to overpay Connor. They have done a decent job resigning their players to a good cap hit. Connor is a good player, but he plays on a line with very good players. Wheeler makes 8.25m and has posted ppg totals Scheifele makes 6.125m, signed his deal a couple years ago but has also proven to be a ppg in recent years Maybe with the cap going up since the above 2 deals, Connor may get a contract somewhere inbetween those 2? So maybe a 7m or so cap hit, possibly. What Connor's agent will state is Kyle is much younger and has yet to hit his peak. It will be interesting to see what player/team blinks 1st and inks a new deal with their respective team. Due to Brock's shorter seasons due to injury, I believe he or his agent will want to sign a shorter deal. Realizing he is playing with Pistol Pete he knows he will produce well if healthy and they can cash in more on a shorter deal. The agent will push that as he is paid a commission I assume on the overall contract signed. Players also would be happy making millions more. I would have never guessed Brock would have been this problematic to sign. He seems like a class act, good character and seems to like Vancouver. At worst I expected him to sign around a similar time to Bo did...a week or so before camp.

[Rumour] Julius Honka requests trade
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If we didn't have stecher on the roster or if we didnt sign Myers I think Goldy for Honka would have happened earlier this offseason. A totally different way of looking at it, could we try something like this... Tanev(50% retained) 2.3m cap hit for Honka- rfa 2021 2nd round pick Canucks sign honka to a 2yr 1.9m deal (950k per) Canucks save 1.4m or so against the cap and gain a future 2nd round pick. It leaves our D like this: Hughes Myers Edler Stecher Benn Honka Biega fantenberg -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Im a fan who pays to watch the team? I doubt this holdout lasts long, but imagine being a season ticket holder and the team sniper not being on the team opening night... All good, Benning wont be here forever...I hope -
