I truly dont believe Brock deserves 6yr at 8m yet does he? I know his injuries are hopefully not lingering or career long affecting him but to get paid big bucks I think you have to prove you can play the rigors of an 82 game schedule. The 3 players you mentioned to me are all a tier above Brock in my opinion. Yes they signed their deals a couple years ago I know -

Sedin's were what 185lbs? great conditioning, but I always thought they were never strong enough or just were too nice and didn't have an edge at all to them. EP has that edge so if he gets targeted in the playoffs one day, he wont just look at the ref waiting for a call he might just go right after the guy if his teammates are to coward to stand up for him. No matter what you say about where the NHL is, if you don't stand up for yourself or your teammates you and your team will never raise a Stanley Cup...in MY opinion. The Ref's just calla different game in the postseason and the intensity goes up! As for Ferraro, we have way too many F, but we need the bodies for pre season and why not push guys with outside competition. If Landon is hungry and comes to camp and plays the style of game Green wants who knows what will happen for final roster cuts/trades etc -

you think EP gained over 20lbs this off season? I have only seen the side shot photo and the interview video doesnt show much. Glad to hear he worked hard and very happy to see he has gained (X) amount of weight. he will need to be bigger and stronger if he wants to be effective in the playoffs and not be pushed around, going to be targeted with hits and slashes a lot for his entire career. -
[Signing] Coyotes re-sign Clayton Keller
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree, if Brock thinks he deserves 7m x 4yrs I stand ground if I am the GM. Long term is the way to go if he took max term 8m would be the max I would like to go, it is a lot to pay him right now but if he stays healthy and is a 35-45g perennial goal scorer while amassing 70-90pts that deal will look good going forward. With EP, Quinn and possibly Marky or Demko needing new deals in the next 2 years add in Bo down the road the sooner we can sign our core youngsters to longer term deals with as low of a cap hit as possible the better imo. Is it a risk to go long term with those contracts...it sure is but we don't want to be Chicago, EDM or Pit having to pay multiple players Elite top end $ if we don't have to. You need to have a well rounded team. Those teams have found cheap contracts to fill the void and have success, they also have drafted well outside the 1st round or signed College FA to cheap deals while contributing. Oh and they traded away good players to gain cheaper assets and draft picks back. Either way, this contract for Keller is a nice compareable for Brock, Conner imo. Sure his pt totals aren't as good But Brock and Kyle have both played with far more talented players. Those saying Arizona overpaid, well they do have to continue to maintain staying above the cap floor or maybe want to try be relevant 1 day again so need to give out some higher contracts. It all started for me when they kept OEL, I thought they would do the typical rebuild forever and trade him for picks and prospects then they went and got Kessel. New owner willing to spend and try ice a better team in hopes of a new arena build? -

to me its hard to tell in the photo. Hopefully with the training regime he was on that was the plan for him to get stronger and put on some muscle mass. I don't think he has the body type to bulk up 15-20lbs in 1 off season like brock or Jake. If he does, a next generation Forsberg would be absolutely amazing for us, I see EP maybe getting to 180lb going off his older brother having a slender build but who knows, work hard enough and you can achieve anything in life! -
I really hope we push to sign and bring him over next spring after his KHL season is over. He is in the final year of his contract with them no?

[Signing] Hurricanes sign Jake Gardiner
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is a good signing, Gardiner has his issues like any NHL player. When you go out July 1 and need or want to improve your team you end up over paying with term, $ or NMC. If your a team willing to wait, you can sign a guy like Gardiner for 4m who can provide some offense. Carolina hasn't been impressed with Bean's development I dont believe so this is a decent signing. Nothing wrong with have good depth at the D position. This deal is for less term and cap hit than many expecting leading up the FA....just like Ferland, pays to wait out the mad rush of free agency sometimes -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
If a player declines a guaranteed long term deal still paying them millions to go the route of a shorter term deal I personally feel they are thinking about themselves 110% only. Yes he might be underpaid in year 3 or 4 of a 8yr deal making 7ish Million per year. But is 7m for crying out loud!!! If we do a short deal with Brock, EP an Quinn do well the next year or 2, we are going to be paying out some massive contracts to a few players....then you will have Bo needing a new deal. Can only hope the cap goes up up up. Mackinnon signed a longer term deal, he only makes 6ish M, its a great contract that should allow Colorado to go out and try to fill the roster and compete for a cup. if he had signed a bridge deal....Rantanen and Mackinnon needing 10m or so each hurts the team upgrading other areas. The way I see it, there is no "I" in TEAM. Athletes want to get paid, but scoffing at a long term deal paying them 50ish Million isnt Chump change AND it still allows them to be a UFA at 30 or younger so still able to get another solid contract if they train hard and continue to play well. I will be shocked if GM JB gets Brock signed long term, shorter term like a 3 year deal is what I am expecting from Dim Sum Jim -

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
its not necessary bad but he will have arbitration rights and if he has a 40g season or ppg he is going to cost a fortune in a few years compared to locking him in now. Kind of like the Bo contract. He didn't quite prove he was worth 5.5m when he signed but he is now and the deal only looks better. If Bo had to be signed this summer...he would have cost 7ish Million per year I believe, maybe more who knows with these rfa's all sitting and waiting. If weeee Willie got 6.9m I would have to think Bo is definitely worth more than him if he needed a new deal, so much more well rounded and a bigger piece to the team -
[Signing] Coyotes re-sign Clayton Keller
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It was brought to my attention he didnt play C for them. Not all players with a decent sized contract can be a plus 30 and be offensive. Also, if he has played pk then that could hurt his stat line too. But Im not going to get into it with you, I usually dont mind what you say but your a bit harsh on a young kid who broke into the league earlier than expected. Still is a quality player, just needs a better overall team around him to help imo -

what about the D who are -20 to -40 who are over 6ft? Should they convert to goalies due to that stat? Disregard the team they play for and all that -

Bit harsh no? We have a smaller smurf on D that everyone is clamoring is going to win the Calder and be such an amazing franchise D for us. Keller has no quality teammates, now he has a bonafide player in Kessel, be interesting to see if he can get 60-70pts with Kessel. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Goldobin, 1 year/900k
86Viking replied to HerrDrFunk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think Bo and goldy got a bit of playing time together last year. Don't think Goldy meshed well but it was likely a small sample size. Also, I believe Goldy is more of the playmaker type than the shoot first finisher -

Arizona has a hard time keeping players or attracting quality UFA. Maybe they are going to change that and try and hope AM wants to go home when his contract is up in TO. I would love to see that personally, so anti LAFFs! -

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Rick Dhaliwal @DhaliwalSports 5m5 minutes ago More It is time for the #Canucks to have some serious discussions with Brock Boeser or he won’t be at camp next week. Due to lack of cap space, I get the feeling talking to various sources today, a 3-5 year deal could make the most sense. Hope your DEAD WRONG Dhaliwal. Wont be impressed with that kind of a deal -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Agreed, in reality Brock shouldn't get more than Keller. Being a C, and the teams best player puts Keller slightly above imo. But most will just go off of his pt totals and drop in pts and ppg last year. I think Keller is more valuable as he is a C and as of right now the face of the Coyote franchise going forward. whereas Brock is a key piece but Pistol Pete is our new Franchise cornerstone player imo. Brock is a solid piece tho dont get me wrong. Whatever JB does in the Brock signing is going to dictate if he is the right man going forward or not for me. If he doesnt go long term and does a shorter deal but still pays a fairly high cap hit then it just solidifies the poor GM work for me -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Goldobin, 1 year/900k
86Viking replied to HerrDrFunk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nice cheap contract, I would have preferred a 2 yr deal for slightly more based on if he doesn't make our opening night roster he may be more likely to be passed on waivers due to the 2nd year AND if he does somehow impress coach Green and win a spot and has a decent year he is signed on the cheap for the following year and we avoid Arb rights with him next summer. That all said, I personally believe barring injuries in the pre season I put Goldy's chance of making opening night roster at less than 50%, I hope I am wrong but we sure have a log jam...let the best 13 F win their spots. Here's to hoping Schaller and Eriksson are the ones who DONT make opening night roster!!! -
[Signing] Coyotes re-sign Clayton Keller
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I like this deal as a compareable for Brock Boeser actually. Keller is the best player on his team, I know his ppg is not as good as Brock's but he doesnt have anyone good to play with. So if Boeser is to sign for the max term like Keller an 8yr deal around the same 7.15-7.5m per year max should be a fair considering what Keller got imo. I'm sure CDC will agree to DISagree with me though -

Good old pre game with Taylor and Valk was good stuff....now we have to listen about the Laffs up until puck drop it is very disappointing. How do you watch Canucks games not on cable or not with SN Now?
