Hope this kid gets some playing time, not ideal for a top ranked pick to ride the pine as an extra forward for large pieces of a season when they are trying to develop. Too bad he can't get out of that KHL contract sooner and at worst play in Utica for a bit

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
86Viking replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
As long as Brock doesn't hold out and not show up for camp and signs a deal I am fine with that. If it leads to him missing some or all of training camp due to holding out over his next contract I wont be impressed. He seems to have great character and class but it would be a mistake for him to miss any time to gel with his new winger and mesh all that much more with Pistol Pete Now that September has hit I think the week leading up to camp opening contract talks will intensify -
Have you ever been betrayed? Tell us about it.
86Viking replied to DarthMelvin's topic in Off-Topic General
Never lend $ to anyone if you truly are wanting it back, it likely wont happen and that will ruin a relationship if its family, friend or significant other. As for being betrayed in a relationship, at some point I am sure everyone has. In today's world there seems to be no real commitment or effort to stay with someone. Just go online and find your next catch so to speak. Quite sad in my opinion -
Surprising they dont have them already as an option as another cash grab. I would consider it if they had more logos available other than the whale. My Canucks gear would be a whole lot larger if they didnt have that whale logo still. Literally have next to no Canuck stuff with that logo, just never liked it from the beginning and flip flopping from no Vancouver to Vancouver to now no Vancouver again on the jersey is just pathetic. Need an updated logo not one that every time I see it reminds me of Keenan and Messier running the ship here...

Should canucks hire a english/russian speaking assistant coach ?
86Viking replied to Nurnge's topic in Canucks Talk
This is where your scouts make their $. Drafting players from other areas of the world where they don't speak english could pose a risk. The way I see it, if these prospects want to play at the highest level in the NHL it goes without saying that having a decent understanding of the english language is going to be needed. When you draft someone like Podkolzin like we did, you have to think our scouts and management knows that the language barrier is going to be an issue and would have had that type of discussion with the player at the pre draft interviews. You select the best coach you believe with fit your team: White/black, male/female, Canadian or different nationality -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
I can see Marner not wanting to sign for less $ then see Point or Rantanen get more. Tampa under Yzerman anyway always got his players signed on the cheaper end. Brock is not compareable at all to Marner tho, so being a tier lower his compareable RFA is what, Kyle Connor? A player who is a more well rounded 2 way NHL player at this time? Brock is more of a sniper, but better defensively than Laine, so not sure if he is better compareable or not -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Just don't structure it the same. Meier would be qualified at 10m or something? I am sure they can sign him early to an extension for less than that tho. Brock should get a W. Nylander type of deal, hoping for less but its doubtful. Even tho the team has all the leverage and NOT the player. Fans will BOO and whine and media will go BONKERS on the radio if Brock isnt signed ad we lose the first few games... Like another poster said, GM's cave in to players demands and can regret it down the road. -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
86Viking replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
These RFA's should just sign, its mind boggling. But hey thats what money does to people. Thought Athletes LOVED playing their sport, they will make millions, but they want to get paid at such an early age now its crazy. GM's need to start to play a bit of hardball with them imo. Look at Zeke Elliott the running back, he CHOSE to be a football player where NFL salaries are NOT guaranteed. He was a top pick and signed his rookie deal and now he wants the team to pay him 2 years early and is going to holdout? Sounds to me like he wants $ and doesnt love playing the sport that under his current deal is going to pay him millions. Then we have the fans...some of us will never even make 6 figures in a CALENDAR year all while working 40 plus hours a week and getting only a few weeks off a year. Boeser is a good player, had 2 years in which he had a couple injuries. He has not proven to be healthy and play a full season and he hasn't produced like the top RFA's/ Rantanen, Point, Tkachuk and Marner are in Tier 1- All have had a season or more above PPG while remaining healthy. Brock falls in the Connor category as a compareable. Be interesting to see who signs between the 2 of them. I think they are compareable, What Kyle has over Brock is more speed and a more well rounded 2 way game? Laine, is a sniper with not much else, let him stay in Finland and play fortnite 24/7. I hope Winnipeg plays hardball with him, heck might even look at trading him if they can find a better fit for their team. I wish Brock a healthy upcoming season, I want to see him sign long term, as playing with Pistol Pete its assured he will put up solid #s. Hopefully whoever flanks the LW on that line can gel well with the 2 of them -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Buy Hossa's old gear and give it to Eriksson. Then we can LTIR the guy... -
Good ole Richardson, decent 4th line C, puts up some points and can PK. Is dirt cheap compared to the overpaid guys we currently have. Man what a good signing back then, too bad we just never kept the guy and saved some $ in the meantime. If Gaudette shows he can play well in the NHL this year, which after last year and his College career this is a big season upcoming for him. So if he can show he belongs Sutter is definitely not needed and way overpaid. Hopefully Sutter can be traded, but with us going all in, that likely wont mean till next off season

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
2yr 9m bridge deal if Brock doesn't want long term. Like someone else said, his stats will likely look cushy while playing with EP, he did have similar numbers with Bo the year before tho. I actually prefer us to play him with Bo but that seems unlikely -
[Report] Ben Hutton to become UFA
86Viking replied to BertaNuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Does the whole thing not boil down to the structure of Hutton's prior deal. Hence the silly 4m cap hit it would have required with arbitration. Hutton as a bottom pair guy should be able to play in the NHL in a reduced role. His cap hit is just going to have to be lower or he will have to go across the ocean to play -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
86Viking replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If he wants 3 years then I would say max is 5m for me. I agree though, I would prefer long term, 7-8 years at 7-8m cap hit -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
NTC does NOT prevent him from being waived and demoted to the bus riding AHL. 3 years in Utica with 5m in dead cap space is better than a buyout lasting double the years. Likely have to wait till next draft to try unload him to a lower cap deal. -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
86Viking replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
4yr 28m with a 7m cap hit would NOT be a smart signing by GM JB. Buy some UFA years and give him a long term deal. doing a shorter bridge type deal is going to cost us millions and a NMC in a couple few years. Some here seem to think we have some lights out players and we hopefully do...problem is with that in a couple years we will have to sign them to non ELC so we need to be smart and dare I say go the GM Mike Gillis route. Give out longer term deals to try save a bit of cap space going forward. -
[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If that trade was offered we would take that and run...we save a ton of cap for an injury prone, non playmaking C in Sutter. We have our 3m vet C in Beagle, who plays a hard nosed game and I believe is better at faceoffs. For 1 or more people saying they would want more than JP for Sutter...not sure what world your living in, Sutter has negative value with his contract and cap hit. That was another blunder of a trade and extension before he even played a game. Here is hoping Sutter stays healthy, Gaud plays well and we can trade Sutter at the TDL as well as Tanev -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He has 0 leverage to try and do that. If that was what he was trying I know you will still make your $ Loui but you'll be riding a bus in Utica to do so. I just really hope he doesnt play another game for the Canucks. Huge reason why GM JB should NOT have got a new 3 year deal imo. But hey, not our $ and the owners don't care to even speak publicly so it is what it is. All I hope is JB sinks LE in Utica for 3 years -
[Signing] Islanders sign Derick Brassard
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Cheap 1 year low risk contract. Smart move by the NYI -
Only makes sense that a company or employee who is "taxi driving" people around should have their class 4. It isn't an expensive license to get, so if people are too lazy to invest a tiny amount in order to get a 2nd job or career if thats your choice then too bad for you. There are rules for a reason. My biggest pet peeve is Class 1 drivers, I drive alot at my current job and I cant count on my hands and toes in this year alone how many brake checks I have stopped at, while seeing a big rig stop in after me, go take a piss hop back in their semi and continue driving...so much for your brake check eh!! Guess thats what a "professional'' driver does though. That and driving far to aggressive for the size and weight of their vehicle and making poor decisions on the road making all regular drivers slow right the F--k down so they can do 5 km/hr more than another semi and take 2 km to pass while impacting hwy speeds by 20-60 km/hr. The way I see if, if you want to make $ picking up drunk people, drive your friends around and charge them if you don't want to go get your class 4. I want to drive a double axle tree truck or dump truck by my air brakes isnt good enough, so I have to pony up some $$$ if I want my class 3. I cant just go drive one...Get your class 4 or go work for skip the dishes instead haha

[Rumour] Derick Brassard to sign with Oilers
86Viking replied to drofssalg's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Cheap 1 year deal I am sure. Can't go wrong. Rather have Brassard on the cheap vs 1 of our 2 overpaid bottom 6 C. At worst its a 1 year deal and they flip him for a pick at the TDl if he plays half decent -
LE rated a 79!?!? Whoever decides player ratings has been smoking too much of the GREEN stuff...Guy is waiver fodder should be low 60's, maybe in the 70s rating wise for the AHL is what they meant??

Five Most Poorly Managed Teams(Edm, Ott & 3 more)
86Viking replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in General Hockey Discussion
its a Canuck forum but Vancouver has to be considered. So called rebuilding team, over paying Miller then LE when we should have kept that cap space, 0 need to get into our cap crunch situation if we didn't go out every July spending frivilously on aging or over hyped UFA to TRY make us a playoff team sooner and skip the proper rebuilding process. GM JB- Given out bad contracts- with poor pay structure and NTC/NMC, giving extra years to a deal to get said player, traded picks away when we were rebuilding. We are just starting to hopefully trend upwards and we are a cap team...not ideal for a team that hasn't been in the playoffs the last 4 years. Iffy top draft picks selections considering top 6 picks ( OJ tbd, Jake not looking like a sniping PF yet and he has been around a while. Trading young recent prospects IE McCann or Forsling. Making some poor trades But our owners are the ones who think he has done a good job and gave him an extension so time will tell...big year for the whole organization as a whole tho. Just another tid bit to irk the JB lovers, yes he has made a couple nice draft choices, but where is the 2nd through 7th round nhl players on our roster. Most teams can find a guy in those round who have made some kind of impact. We have GAUD, who I hope has a big year but our picks have underwhelmed imo. Hope Lind and Gadj can have a solid 2nd year in Utica. -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Canucks likely offered Myers more $ and or term than any other team. He was a 3rd pairing D when the Jets had a healthy D core. Benn is coming home and not a sought after player really. Ferland, we waited the initial rush, many other teams did too and his lackluster finish to the year had to hurt the interest from other teams. I dont believe we are a desirable destination until we have a winning record. Taxes play a part in it, which I get. It sucks to see some states have such an upper hand with that. Those teams should have a reduced cap hit or something...never will happen tho! Edler- he got a NMC for a mid 30s D and a 1m raise. I would say he won. Maybe we got lucky with the term of the deal. But if a player like him states over and over how much he wants to be here I think we could have played hard ball all the way to midnight or mid day of July 1. I don't think many teams would have been offer him 6m and certainly not a NMC. Thats my 2 cents that are worth nothing. Friedman isn't always right. Personally, I think Van caved a bit knowing they were going to making some other big additions and wanted Edler as a veteran LHD. LE- to get back on topic. It has been beaten to death, he will be at training camp and unless he refuses to talk to media he is going to get asked all about his comments from the reporters. He will compete for a roster spot, I just dont see any way barring 2 F injuries how he can be on the opening day roster. save the 1m and send him to Utica. -
[Proposal] Goldobin(Van) for B. Lemieux(NYR)
86Viking replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I hope Ferland brings that GRIT level on a nightly basis. Interested to see what he will do for us. Was disappointed in his playoffs, seemed like a ghost when I watched the games anyway. We need these off season moves to pan out. GM JB on the other hand doesn't need to worry. Owners coughed up an extension before even seeing how these recent moves will pan out. Jumping the gun a bit imo. Just like when we extended Sutter before he played a game for us. But it is what it is, lets hope for a good season for the whole group of Canucks. Lemieux would be great as he is a cheap addition, better suited player to have in that bottom 6 area than someone like Goldy. Who unless we had a better 3C then maybe he could do well on a 3rd line here
