[Report] Canucks sign GM Jim Benning to contract extension
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
At the end of the day I don't pay $ to watch GM JB, so don't really care about the extension. Personal opinion, I dont think it was deserving...I would have waited to see how this season plays out before giving him the extension. He is a rookie GM, he has no leverage to not want to be a lame duck GM and go through the final year of his contract. He made some big moves this summer and capped us out...if any of them falter and we miss the playoffs I would have wanted so see him fired. Its about results and so far he hasnt been able to get any. Now pro JB fans please go on and on about why he deserves it, I wont be back here to read or reply tho -
Straight up trade Goldy for B. Lemieux I know NYR are tight to the cap just like we might be after we sign Boeser etc. But we swap a skilled player who doesn't seem to fit with our team and gain a bottom 6 guy with grit. Could expand the deal to NYR sending Namestnikov (1m retained) 3m cap hit and we send them back Schaller. 1.9m cap hit. That frees up another 1.1m in wiggle room for the Rags. We can then try to flip Namestnikov before the season gets going or at the TDL. I am sure most will say NYR wont do that deal but it would give them a bit more cap space flexibility Or... Just Goldy for Lemieux

Great expectations can lead to bitter disappointment
86Viking replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
I expect our team to be competitive night in night out. We should have some better secondary scoring and a better PP. Our D may be better, but I don't have huge expectations for Myers, I hope he and Edler can live up to the 6m price tag and NMC they come with. Let's hope for another season of solid goaltending. Its not playoffs or bust for me. But JB job has got to be on the line -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
86Viking replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Brock wants 7m short term he won't be playing opening night. What rookie coming out of lets be honest 2 shorter nhl seasons gets a short term contract at high $. If he wants a bridge deal his cap hit should start with a 4. 6-8 year deal the cap hit is between 6-8m. Brock can't expect the moon in a short term deal. He is a fine player who has a knack for scoring but he doesn't warrant a massive payday short term. I don't agree with much of what GM JB has done but I will compare Brock to the Horvat contract negotiations. Now Bo didn't have the offensive #s yet as Brock does but he is a more valuable player position and deployment wise. Bo does it ALL, Brock is an offensive guy. Those scorers do get paid but fact is he has NOT hit 30G in the NHL. I know you can project his injury shortened years to have exceeded that but until you go out and proove that you cant get paid big $ for being that type of producing player without having gone out and done it. Smells like a 2 year bridge deal in the 10m range maybe? -
I am hoping season 50 in 2020-2021 will be epic, season 49 should be interesting to see what we can do. Lets see how Edler and Myers do with their new big $$$ contracts. The future looks bright, lets hope they can put it together

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
With enough digging you can almost always find a positive about a player. That said those stats above are nice, but aren't expected to be his best stat line for a player making 6m. Basically, the LE experiment was an epic flop. Euro ice is bigger when LE and Sedins had success add to that they were younger too! It was just a horrible contract to hand out by us for a rebuilding team. Half way through it now, 3 years left to go... -

Fresh start...start with a new proper adult haircut? Ditch the MopHead, that kind of hair is for teens and I suppose the young millenial early 20's. -
We should have an exciting team to watch. Let's hope the new guys gel well together. as for Boeser, I say go long term with him. Not saying he can produce like Mackinnon in Colorado, but look at his deal now, its a steal. If Boeser can stay healthy he is a perennial 30-40g scorer and probably 65-75pt player. Could put up even bigger #s but those are his low end stats I think if healthy all year. So long term deal for Brock is my choice! Just wish we went 7-8 years with Bo instead of 6.

If we under perform this upcoming season, would have to think the blame goes on the GM who put a basement team in cap trouble. JB will be fired before Green I would have to guess. How many times can a GM hire and fire a coach before he gets kicked to the curb...

Goldy got the tough love Hutton got the year before. Maybe he comes to camp and wins a roster spot?

5 years would take him to UFA tho no? I would go 7-8 years. Or if its a bridge deal 3 years I suppose as in 2 years we need to sign EP, Quinny and Demko -

You'll never get sensibility throughout on this forum. I know what your saying tho! If this thread gets locked someone else will just make one. Mods leave certain topics open for nostalgia then nit pick others if you have the wrong brackets in your post. Its a tough job to be a Mod, they cant monitor all the garbage 24/7...they basically do it for free afterall. -
I hope Goldy is given another shot, but its going to be tough to making the top 13 F. He isnt a 4th liner or 13th man type of player. If he is on our 3rd line do we have the right fit for him with Sutter and Jake? Still think it may be best to try get some kind of asset for him instead of waiting to waive him where he will get claimed by a team. Goldy plus to Edm for JP just makes sense, they need skill in their top 6, Goldy has that. JP doesnt want to play in EDM, Holland gets a player plus a pick or prospect for potentially the next Yakupov. We are hoping it turns out another way for us tho

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on

While Utica is where I want to see LE, I see the Canucks waiving someone else and potentially keeping LE in the NHL. Just a hunch, just dont see JB having the Kahonas to waiving him with 3 years left. Could also be the owner telling him not to do it also But if we want to ice the best most competitive team, LE isn't on our opening day roster -

the logical trade was always Lucic. Other players with a similar high cap hit under producing output are: Ryan, Okposo, Backes, Ladd and Neal-traded for Lucic. Unless we are willing to take back 1 of those contracts we are likely stuck with LE. If we retained 50% LE at 3m should garner some interest. especially from the fans on this board who say he is a valuable bottom 6 player. So if he is valuable as a bottom 6, why have we not been able to find someone to take him at 3m for a conditional 7th round pick? -

86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Waive LE, no point buying him out we save half as much as him being down in Utica. Use that 1m in savings and allow someone who will put forth effort in the lineup instead. Let LE play out his 3 years in Utica if we can't find a trade partner for him before the season starts you go back to that every off season until his deal is off the books. We have a ton of F, LE doesn't try hard enough to be gifted a spot. If for some miracle he comes to camp and actually plays decent and earns a spot then you waive someone else instead I suppose -
[SIGNING] Tampa Signs Kevin Shattenkirk

Most predictable move to see happening. Called it right after he got bought out that he was Tampa Bound -
[Rumour] Puljujarvi to play in Finland until he is traded
86Viking replied to The_Rocket's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sutter is an Alberta boy, also is a defensive minded C, something the Coil could use. Yes he has had injuries, but a veteran C is a veteran C. The Coil could use someone like Sutter. If we didnt sign Beagle then I would be fine keeping him but 7m plus for your bottom pair C is just not ideal. Maybe we hold on to him for 1 more year or part of it if Gaud steps up maybe Sutter is dealt at the TDL or Draft -

86Viking replied to The_Rocket's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
the swap of those 2 does make sense, difference is Jesse is younger and was a higher pick so his upside seems to be higher and he gets a bit more leniency due to being younger too? It would be an ideal swap for us, but we still need to dump some dead weight out of our F group via waivers come pre season (LE and Schaller at minimum) Goldy, Sutter for JP, Manning & pick/prospect? We waive Manning, frees up 1 F spot by us sending out 2 -

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
86Viking replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree, EP is a young guy hungry and loves the game. LE is a veteran, has made his $ and plays like he doesn't care. LE use to be an effective player in Dallas when he was younger, heck I even picked him in my pool he was just that reliable consistant point getter. Not any more. If at all possible we need to move on from him and he most definitely wants a fresh start -
[Rumour] Puljujarvi to play in Finland until he is traded
86Viking replied to The_Rocket's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I wouldn't mind trying him on EP's wing, slide Boeser back to Bo's wing where he had great success in his rookie season. Leaving ferland and Miller as the top 2 LW options. Making a deep team on paper when healthy -

if we would'vs got Neal for Eriksson would that have not sat well due to Neal's extra year on his deal? Unless we retain 50% and even then it may be hard to find a taker we arent moving him unless we take a bad deal back. Personally with our roster additions this summer, I hope I never have to see Eriksson in a Canucks uniform again. Utica for 3 years worst case imo
