I think as nice as Tanev is he is son unreliable injury wise we should just move on. Take the pick with conditions on it or a pair of picks and look at Stralman as a possible replacement for him to play with Hughes. Maybe 3 yr 15m for him, will be 33, Myers is 29 so 7 years take him to 36, If Myers comes in at 6m I would be okay with that but more than that on max term is scary

Yup it was an odd pass by us in my opinion. There had to of been smaller skilled players we could have taken later, maybe not at the level of Hoglander but D are far more valuable and harder to find than an undersized winger. It is a shock to me that our management felt the need to draft 0 D. They are going to take time to develop obviously so we should always be looking to the future. I mean we draft a G it seems every year, I would pass on that considering we have marky and Demko. I dont know if Dipietro will become a full time NHL goalie but we have him too, so taking yet another G when we signed a College G seems odd to me. RHD are hard to find, even harder to trade for. Does this mean we are going to extend Tanev for multiple years and gift Myers a 7year retirement payday? Leaving Stech to man the bottom pair while Woo develops?

I wonder what Hutton wants term and cap hit wise. With Hughes likely top 4 going forward and Edler in that spot for 2 years, I dont see us wanting to commit to Hutton for too long, I would give him a shorter term deal to take him to UFA or look at the trade market and see if you can snag a half decent pick for him. We can find a placeholder to fill bottom pair LHD minutes from within the organization or with a cheape UFA signing

We really should be trying to get C. Miller. The cost shouldnt be high and if JB was smart he would try to take on another contract from Vegas to to and recover a higher draft pick for the next draft. Could we somehow get a 1st from Vegas by taking Miller and another salary dump type player? It also was too bad we couldnt send Tanev to Tampa along with say a 2nd and 3rd to save our own 1st but guess they just wanted to clear cap to sign Point etc. Ristolainen would be another interesting option, I wonder what it would take to get him. 4 straight years of posting 40pts or more and he will only be 25 next year. Could be a nice partner for fellow Fin OJ going forward. Even Justin Faulk would be worth calling about to see what it would cost, although He along with Barrie are UFA next summer. Personally I hope we dont go crazy after Myers this summer but think it likely happens. No need for Gardiner after re signing Edler. If we sign Myers I would trade Tanev then target Barrie as hopefully being the next Hamhuis and coming home as UFA next summer...in a perfect world.

[Proposal] Low key FA signings
86Viking replied to Nigerian's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
All for signing Simmonds, but how many F do we have now under contract or who are RFA? has to be close to 15-16... -
JT knows how much rain Vancouver gets right...coming from Tampa and all, but he was in NY so he avoids the dumps of snow at least. I am joking btw! Nice to see him supposedly say Vancouver is his favourite NHL city, hard for me to believe just based on him being an American but good way to make a solid impact with the fans by saying that. Now, what # is he wearing!?

GM JB is banking on Markstrom playing at a great level again and they feel they are going to fix the D via FA I suppose. With how we are right now the pick sucks to lose but yes in 2 years if its a high teens low 20s pick it wont look as bad. Just hoped we could've got Miller without having to give up that high of a pick, we did just take 5.25m of cap from Tampa that they can go address on their back end...maybe 7yr deal for Myers in the low tax state!? -
he should be a good player for us no doubt, hard not to when you get to play with bo or Petey. But when a team is strapped you try to take advantage and instead of a 1st you hope maybe a 2nd and conditional 3rd would have been enough. To me anyway. but I think he should do well here, hope he workse hard for coach Green

[GDT] 2019 NHL Entry Draft

I am a bit shocked, a team with 0 depth at D we havent chosen a D yet have we? Time to shore that up july 1 with over spending I suppose... -
i agree we have the cap space, I rather take on a cap hit for a 1st that you could then turn into say JT miller than go take that cap $ and over pay Myers...JB trying to save his job by spending and hoping for a playoff appearance next year imo. GM's never look long term they dont have that security its about winning as soon as you can
-
right cause they signed him for over 5m to be a top 6 guy then got passed by younger cheaper contract players and was on the 4th line during the year. Tampa just has a wealth of offensive talent, hasn't led them to a cup tho. Surprised they didnt ask for Tanev retained, guess they want the picks to continue to find gem players that can play on the elc and be effective for them
-
5ft 9 in size, just like caufield went from top 5 ish to mid 1st rounder. size is a factor when you pick early you need that player to pan out
-
that line will get pushed around imo come playoff time. Need to find some gritty players who will drop the gloves or go after guys who target your teammates, not goons just players willing to stand up for eachother. Im personally hoping with his down season we can land Simmonds as a FA, but we got so many damn F its not funny...
