  1. would have been nice if he could have been involved in Tampa deal even if we retained and gave up a lesser pick or prospect instead of that 1st. But yes, lets hope somehow Tanev stays healthy, plays unreal and JB does the right thing and cashes in on him at the TDL. Green just has to use him a bit less so he can hopefully stay healthy!
  2. they definitely have some talented scouts and management down in Tampa. Dont see us getting much from our picks other than a few top lotto selections that should be no brainer quality NHL players, even then Jake isnt fitting the bill for his selection and I can only hope he gets a proper shot to play top 6. 3rd liner is not what you want when draft a winger 6th overall! OJ, well lets hope he can stay healthy should be a serviceable D hopefully in the near future. You need a home run player if your taking a W early in the 1st, D and C are so much more valuable and harder to trade for if and when you need one...see the JT miller trade, a team looking for cap relief still managed to get a 1st for him. 1st should never have been on the table imo Life goes on, just please no Tyler Myers signing at a cap hit north of 6m for 5yrs or more...
  3. going to overpay a D man in FA, have 0 room to sign any F we need to dump a few or waive a bunch at camp. Cant even add one as a throw in to a deal had to be a 3rd rounder. Oh well, not JB 1st or last move that I am skeptical on. Hope that mini swede we took can be a Zuccarello type for us, sure wanted us to take Korzak from the Rockets who went next pick
  4. I wish we were able to send some kind of dead weight back like spooner retained or schaller. I dont think we should have had to give up a conditional 1st for a player that was not a fit in Tampa's top 6 regularly and gave them over 5m in cap space. This goes to show me that JB just isnt quite the right guy to be the GM of my Canucks, I dont hate this move I just dont like the cost. We need to capitalize on teams with a cap crunch and get players on the cheap. Eating Marleau on a buyout for a 1st is a no brainer move by Carolina where was JB... Oh well lets hope he can mesh in our top 6 and be a 50-60pt player for us
  5. GM JB out GM'd again...your a fool to not accept a 1st round pick for a buyout...way to go carolina. Time for JB to go imo!
  6. Yup that is who I am hoping for, also was hoping Foote would be around for our 2nd but that aint happening now. Not sure why people want to go after Leason, kid is 20, he should have dominated even more in Junior imo. Maybe I have a sour taste in my mouth from past drafts where we took over agers and they all were duds...
  7. If Nashville is willing to retain 3m of PK's cap hit JB should definitely look at acquiring him depending on the ask of course... Predators willing to retain salary Ty Anderson: Darren Dreger said that the Nashville Predators would be willing to retain up to $3 million of P.K. Subban‘s $9 million cap hit to get a trade done.
  8. I know there is that russian factor and he has a deal in the KHL for 2 more years, But...if we drafted say a College kid or CHL kid they would be 1-3 years away anyway... I would hope they did their homework on him, he will need to learn to speak english over the next 2 years, dont think he can pull a Tryamkin and just not speak to the media... Hope it pans out for us, we need all our 1sts to pan out and hit or break through their projected ceiling. Have a couple that are to be determined still or with Jake the team just needs to stick him in the top 6 and let him learn and develop. I have to think JB would have taken Zegras but Ana snagged him, best of luck to to Podkolzin and hope he can be an elite top 6 winger for us in short order!
  9. JB has been here long enough he needs to make a big bold trade that will bring us a good asset back. He will have to give up players or a 1st next year that people wont like, hard not to acquire a top 4 rhd without doing that. make the 2020 1st top 5 protected (included lottery results)
  10. Trade him now before he gets hurt and cant be daelt next spring then walks as a ufa...
  11. This off season is due or die for him, he has to try and improve this team and not give out max contracts to players like gardiner or myers who are worthy of 7year deals imo. His job might be on the line, he has had enough time here to turn things around, he has made some good moves and poor ones. Time to see what he is made of but I give him this year upcoming and thats it. If he locks up players to bad deals with ntc or nmc hindering us going forward he could be gone next spring
  12. You are correct unfortunately the NHLPA will never sign off on that, only way it happens is if the NHL goes on strike for probably 2 years then maybe the players will bend and say hey, I am willing to bet on myself and at least get to play the game I love and make millions... I also agree that a players 2nd contract should max them out to still be an RFA giving the team more control, it also is more of a sample size for the teams to see if said player is worth 8,9,10,11,12 million dollars per year. These young guys are great but some of these contracts are obsurd, making 9-11m per year after only playing for a couple years in the league. But it is what it is at the end of the day, just hope our team is gets smarter with their spending and we continue to trend upwards but we do need to step up and address areas of weakness. That will mean trading a younger player, propsect or picks going forward
  13. all teams make mistakes, but the more picks you have the better the chance at finding those gems that turn out for you
  14. Ahh yes the Canuck draft pick that went to LA. At least our GM has learned to not give away picks when the team is no good. Too bad he couldnt acquire more of them over the past 2-3 years. We are trending up but we need to be smart this off season with our spending, can't overpay UFA's who arent worth big deals like Gardiner or Myers...would be a big mistake to be locked in to those guys
  15. most teams overpay. When i read an agent was hopeful the Canucks would be interested in his clients because he knows they pay more or add term that was scary..JB can't be a pushover, let our young core grow and we will get better then we can attract FA vs having to over pay in term and $
  16. bottom feeder teams like the high cap hit with lower actual $ that have to be paid out
  17. We miss many players when they are gone, fact is we had those guys during their prime. Edler is going to only slow down and show his age. Smart move is to get him on a deal that is team friendly or move on and look to younger players
  18. any idea on the timeline for recovery with Krebs injury? there has to be a bit of hesitation drafting a player who is injured, it will impact his development for the upcoming season. Good thing is he is probly 2 years away from attempting to make the team anyway at minimum
  19. I will be very happy if we can move him and just get rid of his 6m cap hit so we can give it to Boeser
  20. Hell no to Myers @ 7yr x 7M that is horrid imo Ferland I wouldn't mind, but the last Hurricane playoff series I was very disappointed in his play, would be very cautious with over paying him or going long term. I like the idea of Jordie Benn, I think someone mentioned that, epic beard for one and a good BC boy that wont cost a ton but plays a decent game. Dont think we need to go after Gardiner unless we let edler walk and trade Hutton. I like Hutton but it may be the right time to trade him at the draft instead of giving him a pay raise, like his game but not sure if he can be relied upon as a top 4 D long term
  21. if Boeser turns down 8yr x 7.25m I dont know how committed he is to Vancouver. That is more than slight Willy N got with a longer term deal. Boeser has had some injuries to start his career. A long term deal like I mentioned sets him up for like and still allows him to get another good contract when he is 30ish. But if he wants to bet on himself he might want a 2-3year bridge deal in the 5m range? But I would not be interested in that in any way if I was GM JB. We need to lock up guys for the lowest cap hit possible as we will need to give EP $ and possibly a goalie in a year or 2 then Hughes not to mention a higher end FA. 6-8 year deal is what the Canucks should be looking to lock Brock up too!
  22. Edler was a good Canuck for sure. But if he wants term and NTC/NMC protection it is time to move on. we did this with other D men like Mitchell, Salo, Ohlund. I do Not want to tie up Big $ and full NTC/NMC protection to a D man until he is in his mid to late 30s. This game is getting so fast, he is going to lose another step and be an anchor down the road when we are hopefully a competitive team. Let him walk if he wants more than 2 years and more than 11m total in my opinion. He wants to stay so there is no need for us to shell out 6-7m a year and give him term and trade/expansion protection.
