Believe Kane has Covid and had some medium symptoms that he probably is past now but I think I saw an article stating that was the reason for him being out. He has such a track record of being a problem its really hard to see any team taking on that kind of cancer. Problem is he is a good hockey player and someone who would look good in our top 6 over say Pearson. So I would take him on our team, but he has quite a bit of term so it is a risk but all depends on the cap hit. Would JR make this sort of trade, my guess is no.

[Discussion] JT Miller, is he tradeable?
86Viking replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Keep JT this year, would take an absolute overpay to trade him. I think his value would be very similar Next TDL. We approach him early this off season to gauge if he would STAY with the Canucks and what the Term and Cap Hit would be. If it is deemed to be TOO long and TOO expensive we keep him still and SHOULD highly consider trading him next TDL, even retain salary if it gets us more of a return. Moving JT would be a loss initially, but if we get the right package in return it could help us in a few years be a more cup contending caliber team. It is great to see the team doing well now, but even if we make the playoffs our team has TOO many holes to outright go and win the Cup...would take Demko to stand on his head for 4 rounds which he Probably could do but Playoff hockey is a Beast. Best to look at being a top team in 2-3 years, but we need to address some big areas of need. We need to find as much cap space as possible to help Address the holes we have and retain some players who need raises at the same time. If I was GM at year end meetings I bring Bo and JT into my office and say look, your both up for deals next summer and we want to keep you both BUT we CAN'T pay both of you 7-9m each long term and retain BB6 and EP40 long term etc...Something will have to give it is going to be mean at LEAST 1 of Bo, JT, BB6 or EP40 will be traded or will walk as FA's. Too many holes on the team we couldn't address if we kept them all -
Anyone with some insight as the what kind of prospect or where Christian Kyrou might go in the upcoming draft? Brother or Blues Jordan Kyrou, Christian is listed on eliteprospects as a 5'11 183lb RHD who has 5g 15a in 25gp with the Erie Otters of the OHL, the same team as Canuck 6th round pick Connor Lockhart. With the blood lines and position alone I would think depending on the round he is projected to go it is 1 of many players we should consider. I am hoping we draft heavy on C & RHD this upcoming draft. Hope we can add a couple extra picks if we move out Halak and maybe someone else at the TDL.

was Bone's injury disclosed to what it was? He has missed a decent amount of time, luckily with cancelled games it hasn't been a ton of games he has missed. I hope he plays for a month or 2 in Abbotsford before we POTENTIALLY call him up this season, which we probably should do so Boudreau can see him at the NHL level as Bone will need waivers next fall. Don't want to see another OJ situation where he doesn't get much chance to play before needing waivers leading to a claim or trade of Mr. Bone

@BB83, where do you find all these jerseys?? Not that I will go and scoop them all from you, just curious and yes I may get 1 or 2 if the right jersey was available and for a reasonable price too. Got to be on a budget with a little one now haha!

Yushiro bring some HEFT...under 6ft but over 210lbs nice! Sounds like he has a fairly hard shot, hopeful can contribute in the higher AHL league and fill a roster spot or at least bring some depth to the farm team

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I agree with this, which is sad if we don't get the BEST GM candidate because Grandpa Jim and his short term 3 year deal is wanting to do what he wants...If that is the case EFF even bringing in a new GM and just let Jim do be Prez/GM. What AGM wants to become GM for the 1st time yet not get the final say as the GM....people who only care about the increase in pay is my guess OR someone who knows Grandpa Jim from the past. Still hoping we get someone from Carolina, Tampa, Florida or Colorado to join the management group. -
We passed on him before when Tampa claimed him, but that was under the old GM regime. Maybe the team that waived him first tries to reclaim him? Would he be more useful than Lammikko? Maybe flip Nash at the TDL for a late round pick to a contender...asset management right!? Free asset to get minus his salary, if we can fit it under the cap. Another big reason to move Halak before his bonus imo, save ALL the cap space we can going into next year imo with more dead weight hitting us but Yes for all you whiners Luongo finally comes off the books too

Why The Avalanche Defensemen Score So Many Goals
86Viking replied to Rindiculous's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I am fine with that, Alvin would be a mistake on paper if that is who we wire. Hoping Grandpa Jim sticks to his DIVERSITY comments and doesn't just mean 1 hire would be a woman or different raced person but the bulk of hires would be former Penguin colleagues -

don't people here say the Canucks are deep at C? EP is #3C for us, who is Colorado's? Sad about D scoring tho, look what 13.2m in Myers and OEL gets us...65GP combined playing lots of minutes for a combined 2g and 16pts OUCH!!! Time to put OEL a more proven reliable point producing D man in more situations to score imo, Hughes AND OEL on PP1 and 3 F's, sliding 1F down to the 2nd unit strengthening that unit more as well. -
A heartwarming story for the first day of 2022
86Viking replied to PetterssonOrPeterson's topic in Canucks Talk
It was great to hear about for sure. What saddens me is 2 NHL franchise teams COMBINED donated $ for a measly $10,000 towards her medical school. $10k is not chump change for a regular person but for Billionaires running sports teams...they could have easily split paying off all her schooling! Heck I bet the Canuck trainer who got the cancer removed would have been willing to pay $10k out of his own pocket for crying out loud! Teams could have written it off too no!? Either way, good on the medical student for seeing that and telling him about it! Props to her! -

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I believe he was mentioned by Frank Seravelli as being connected to the Canucks GM opening. Unfortunately there seems to be a lot more smoke around Pens Allvin, don't see a great background their to have much excitement about and he is another Grandpa Jim former co worker...something I don't want as the new Canuck GM, fine for the recent AGM hire but we need more fresh eyes for this team not a few from the same organization who once all worked together imo -
Sad news! This is when I wish I was a lot older so I could have had watched years more of his gameday commentary, his Madden games use to be a must play when I was a kid...no idea how those Madden games are now though. RIP Big John!!!

There is a big difference between the 2 regimes though. 1. Gillis had a cup winning caliber team so he traded picks and signed players to long deals with NMC to lower the cap hit a bit 2. Benning had an aging team he chose not to trade veteran players for future assets, then went out and signed numerous expensive UFA's tying tons of cap space up long term, all while not weaponizing that cap space to take dead cap on to get good young players or picks in return. He selected a handful of current Canucks via the draft but traded away too many picks during a rebuild. We are in an okay spot, but we have nothing in the propsect pipeline nor do we have exta picks for the next GM to try to fill that hole. Be interesting to see who the new GM is, hope its not another Grandpa Jim old buddy and we get someone else here. Then, let's see that persons vision for the team going forward and what they chose to do with the current team and some key players needing new contracts over the next 2-3 years ( JT, Bo, Boeser, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Pettersson)

Hopefully with a new President and soon a new GM running things they will see it that way. Dipietro needs to play, play him through his struggles in my opinion and like you said your DEVELOPING him not a 26 yr old Martin who is doing well for us. That said this question needs answered...Do we want to just win as many AHL games as possible WHILE risking prospect development OR are we willing to play prospects DURING a SLUMP to help them keep active and work THROUGH said slumps... IF the management and coaching staff in Abbotsford are NOT on board then things need to be changed. Silovs AND Dipietro barely played last season...now we are running 3 G in the AHL and the one playing the most lately is NOT named Silovs or Dipietro...instead they sit cold on the bench or press box and they are PRACTICING but NOT playing as much as they likely should. I agree, bring 1 G up to taxi squad for a period of time to work with Ian Clark, then send him back down and allow the same to happen with a different G. As much as fans would like to see Klimovich get a call up or NHL game this year, do NOT do it! Let him learn the game in the AHL with low expectations...sounds like he is learning quickly from GM Johnson's comments he is impressed with the kid, so let the KID stay on that same path.
