[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
If the 3 rumoured persons are true for new Canucks GM, I would prefer us give the job to MacFarland. Seems like a solid candidate who could step into a GM role and succeed, he will have Rutherford to work with and absorb as much as he can from him while he is the President...Decades of knowledge Grandpa Jim has to offer! -
What Canuck themed gift did you get for Christmas this year

Skate hat, toque and t shirt this Xmas. Really like that Demko themed hat, will need to look it up now and see the price -

Try to bring Both in? We got 1 ex Penguin joining Rutherford already I prefer we DIVERSIFY....just like Grandpa Jim said himself, so MacFarland or someone from TB or Carolina please! -
[Proposal] Carolina has what we need.

If that got offered I think we would have to seriously consider it. Necas is a good young player, can' recall if he is a W or C but he is a right shot I believe. Morrow, was one of the many RHD in the draft I was hoping we could someone pick. The 1st will be kind of late most likely but the whole package is a decent offer. I still wait till the off season and talk to him and or his agent July 1 and see what the ask is term and $$$ wise to keep him a Canuck before making a trade -

For me it all boils down to July 1st 2021...Contact JT and ask what his wants are for term and $$$, if he wants near max term AND 8m plus then we have to trade that asset by next years TDL to HELP the team long term. It would be SHORTSIGHTED to keep JT and then see him join the cast of former Canucks to walk away for nothing...bringing nothing back in return, but OH WAIT, the players got to play competitive hockey!?!? Ya...PARTICIPATION ribbons don't win you a Stanley Cup sorr folks, these millionaire athletes need to figure it out without the team being CAP STRAPPED with older players on long term deals! -

Carolina drafts well, lets steal some people from management/scouting etc... AGM: Darren Yourke AGM: Eric Tulsky Director of Hockey Ops: Aaron Schwartz Director or Pro Scouting: Mark Craig Senior Consultant: Mike Futa Amateur Scouts: Bob LucciniDon EllandDaniel EklundCody NickoletEric FinkOleg SmirnovJokke NevalainenRhys JessopIan Meagher Futa/Tulsky/Yourke for GM, they bring Scwartz or some amateur scouts with them to revamp that department -

Sounds like a good candidate if the team wants to go that route. But man, talk about Resting Bitch Face in that picture!! -
Young RD Targets (Crowd Sourced haha)
86Viking replied to aGENT's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This is where we need a big change...we need Canuck Scouts to find players like this outside of round 1/2. We have made so many misses with picks and lacked picks for 8 years there is NO reason why we should still have a lack of prospects like we do now. This player is in the AHL now so lets see if he can translate his game to the NHL but you need your scouts to find NHL players in all rounds in every draft possible to continue to succeed. Those cheap ELC come in handy when you become a legit playoff team and those salaries are near league minimum yet you have effective NHL players who help contribute -

I hope we don't just hire from Rutherford's past for the new GM, but it might be Allvin as his name seems to be talked about a lot. Would prefer we POACH a guy from a team like Tampa or Carolina, they could fill the AGM role but for some candidates that would be lateral, only way I see someone leaving a team is for a promotion -

I would give Darche the GM job I am sure Darche is on a short list for the Montreal GM list, I am assuming he can speak french based soley on his last name -
Lewis with the KO, but then he refuses to want to have a 5 round fight... If you don't have the cardio to go that long, continue to do what you do and add to your KO record then so it doesn't get to those "championship" rounds. Was a silly thing for him to say. Woodley: Guy got knocked the F out tonight, if people still gonna throw a ton of $$$ his way then keep on doing it I guess...otherwise your pro career is over dude time to hang em up! Also, was great to see Cub Swanson back in the octagon and get a big W tonight too!

But we did trade Burrows away already...haha!

[Proposal] Trade for Rasmus Ristolainen
86Viking replied to tan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
No thanks, but what about trading for the guy who got dealt in the Risto deal...Robert Hagg is a 26 yr old pending UFA making 1.6m. bottom pair LHD who can PK, not sure how well he can skate but I want to think he does play with a big of an edge and hits from time to time? -
because some of them might turn into NHL Canucks one day and CONTRIBUTE to the team...hopefully one day leading us to our 1st Stanley Cup!!!

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks | Dec. 16, 2021
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
The players do they...If they don't want to play they inform the team and forfeit all further earnings for that season. Your cap hit is removed from the team and the team moves forward replacing opt out players internally, via trade or FA signing. If most players choose to opt out, then the season is cancelled. Travis Hamonic opted out with Calgary, other athletes opted out in there major leagues as well and forfeited pay while MOST continued to play. Nobody is holding a gun to any players head forcing them to go on the ice and play the game of hockey. BY opting out you lose out on lots of $$$ and possible your spot on the team etc BUT you get to stay safe at home with your family. You can't have it all, many REAL world people would like to NOT have to go to work but we ALL do because we don't make PRO Athlete $$$ to be able to AFFORD to stay in a bubble in our homes and still afford to live a decent quality of life -
[Report] Canucks hire Derek Clancey as assistant GM
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Agreed! I mean it will probably be hardest to Convince JT then Bo then Brock. Oldest to youngest, meaning Brock could sign a 5-6 year deal at 7m or so and still get another 5-6yr deal for that amount if not more depending on the Cap and his production when he hits the same age as JT will be when he is a UFA. If I was GM, after the season ends whenever that is I call all 3 of those guys into my office and I say this... Boys we turned this season around in a big way and there are some great years ahead for this team. Now, that said all 3 of you are eligible to sign contract extensions July 1 (BB6 can anytime). The Canucks organization wants to retain ALL 3 of you, but... 1. there is a salary cap... 2. We still to improve the roster ie: Defence, quality bottom 6 depth 3. Your all part of this CORE but you ages vary so I know JT you might want to cash in for the largest amount you can as this is your last time to sign a BIG long term contract. 4. We will give you all NMC/NTC ala Gillis era but we need you all to take less $$$. These #s come to mind for the 3 of you for new deals...4 JT Miller: 6yr 8m cap hit Bo Horvat: 8yr 7m cap hit Brock Boeser: 7yr 7m cap hit. Try to sign him in season for this? If he lights it up the rest of the way it could cost well over QO long term, right now we MIGHT be able to get him to sign for slightly under his QO if we give him max or near max term and trade protection etc. I know all 3 of the above contract are for less term AND or cap hit than you want to sign for but you all get NTC and we can stay competitive with ALL 3 of you remaining Canucks! -
This! That is why we try to negotiate a new deal with JT this off season and if he wants too much term or $$$ then we keep him leading up to the TDL but we TRADE him for the best possible return to keep re stocking this team with picks that turn into prospects that turn into NHL contributing Canuck players on ELC and Bridge contracts helping us continue to contend and battle for Stanley Cups
-
This!!! That is why it is so IMPORTANT to continually draft well, so you HOPEFULLY hit on some of your picks so you can continue to insert young ELC to your team to fill out the roster and potential be an impact at a LOW cap hit...over exceeding PTS wise by making LESS $$
-
Come July 1st, Canucks NEED to call JT Millers agent and ask what the term and cap hit it would cost to lock him up. If he wants 7 or 8 years north of 8m, man that would make me a bit worried. 4-6 years around 8m I would be okay with knowing that his last couple years he might dip in production. If JT wants 9m or more and long term, Canucks need to trade him as he is a VALUABLE trade chip and could help bring in assets to continue helping our team for years down the road. We CAN'T let him walk as a UFA for FREE!!!

SHHH, don't say that out loud and post it on here...people will say that is a bad idea like they did to my thread!!! But yes, I agree with your statement...depending on what Pit wants from us in return tho!
