[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM
86Viking replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
there are tons of tough smaller players, from many moons ago but Smyl, Williams, Rypien all tough as nails and not sure on the size of them but they were not heavy weights from their time in the league but all of em were FEARLESS -

Smyl wants us to be hard to play against? -

As a fan I am happy to hear the Canucks owner speak and what he is saying, I have to believe what he says and we will see how this evolves going forward. It sounds to me like he knows they have made some mistakes, now is the time to address that so it does NOT happen again. Thanks Aquilini family for bringing in an experienced coach, I am excited to see how the team performs and the direction the team is headed with new management in place in due time... Go Canucks Go! -
[Waivers] Kevin Connauton, Riley Nash

could flip Nash at the TDL for a late pick to possibly...more picks = more swings at getting an NHL player, asset management! -

How did OJ even go in IR, did he get hurt practicing with the Panthers? Congrats to Connauton for carving out a decent NHL career, has made over 7.5m and as mentioned is a former Canuck -

I don't want him here either, but damn the name calling will likely draw the attention of the Moderators no!? -
I like to think its all the transplant people who now live in BC but are from other areas of the country and grew up fans of other teams and come here to crap on everything....unfortunately I am probably dead wrong with that! Fans have passion here, good AND bad...It was a long 8 years and we have a few nice pieces from that time but many holes still, hopefully we get a President and GM with experience and full authority to do as they see fit!

Agreed! See how he does under Boudreau now!

Welcome head coach Bruce Boudreau, I am excited to see what you can do with this offensive lineup of players. Welcome former Canuck Scott Walker to help behind the bench and welcome back 100g scorer Alex Edler. Go Canucks Go! There should be some excitement for this team now with a fresh face behind the bench with nearly 1000 NHL games under his belt. This is the GDT, sorry if you folks like animated pictures, line ups etc...we know who we got on the team, feel free to post updates

You are correct, believe that was right after he came on board, could be wrong tho -

It is FITTING that you got to start this thread given your username. I know many here might have wished for a throwback coaching hire in AV, but personally I am excited to see an offensive minded Boudreau come here with 0 ties to the organization. It is only a 2 year deal, BB is 66 I think I heard someone on radio say so he won't be coaching for too much longer most likely. Looking forward to his interviews and of course what he does with our team...we have the offensive players Boudreau just needs to get the offense out of said players.

Smyl is a placeholder and is going to help the team interview and find a new GM and maybe even a President of hockey ops?
