[Report] Canucks name Patrik Allvin as GM
DefCon1 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
They are support players but there would be lots of holes to fill. So if Hughes is your number 1 and Schneider number 2 from NYR trade, then we would need 2 to 3 more top 4 D while still being stuck with a declining OEL. For Forwards, we would need a 2nd C, a 1st C if Pettersson is moved to wing permanently, 2 top line wingers if Boeser is traded, and 3 to 4 bottom 6 forwards. It wont be easy to fill those positions in 5 years unless Allvin gets everything right. -

Miller should be traded ONLY if we get the right pieces like Braden Schneider Ottoman and 1st. Also trading Miller doesnt guarantee a cup so I dont see how your question is valid when you ask Miller or cup? We can trade Miller to fill holes but Canucks need to have a contingency plan on how to get a replacement for Miller. -

2-7 years? Problem is tbat this team was built to compete now with the way Benning made the team, getting OEL, Myers, Miller, Pearson etc. I would imagine OEL being awful in 4 to 5 years while still on our team and we would need to replace basically most of our players like Myers, dickenson, pearson etc. So in 7 years I see pretty much a rebuild if you think about how old all the supporting players will be along with Horvat. Not sure they would be able to fill all the positions tbrough draft but I dont see how we would be contenders in 6 to 7 years. Only players that would still be in their prime would be Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes and Demko with Podz and Hogz. Basically what am saying if you want to trade Miller, Horvat should be traded also, along with Myers, Poolman, Pearson, Dickenson, Motte, OEL. It would signal a rebuild that we should finish 5 years later. The problem would be if Pettersson would sign in 3 years. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
DefCon1 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Personally I am looking at NYR because I see Schneider as a legit top pairing RHD who would be awesome with Hughes. He is huge and great defensively. If Byram has concussion problems I would be a little iffy. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
DefCon1 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The Avs will be desparate if Nate is out for a long time and they would want an impact 1st line center like Miller even as backup insurance in case Nate gets injured again in playoffs or Kadri gets suspended. Miller would put the Avs over the top with the Nate, Kadri, Miller, Newhook down the middle. Canucks would be asking for a 1st and Byram in any Miller trade talks as Miller has one more year in terms while Kadri might price himself out. That would be a perfect transition for Avs to contend this year and next year. The Avs wont be able to get someone like Miller from any other team so I see them being forced to pay 1st and Byram. They still have great D depth to take that hit with Girard, Towes, Makar, Barron, Johnson and Johnson. They could even add Schenn or some other depth D to alleviate the loss of Byram. -
Proposal- Pearson, halak and Hamonic
DefCon1 replied to Paul-walker's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Unless Poolman, Dickenson and Pearson could be moved without any assets being added to them, then I say they should move them even as soon as this year at TDL. Those are deadweights on our team that dont contribute much while taking valuable cap space we need for more important signings like Horvat. OEL eventhough is playing decent defensively is the biggest anchor on our team right now. -
Plans for Roster going forward (Discussion)
DefCon1 replied to KKnight's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sutter, Hamonic all need to be forgotten as they will not be part of the team anymore. Sutter might as well retire as Covid has done long term damage to his lungs probably. Hamonic should also retire for being so injury prone. Thats 4+ million plus the Luongo penalty being removed which frees 7 to 8 million in cap space. -

We will miss a beat for sure. Miller is an impact player that you cant just replace. If we can trade Miller for a kings ransom then we should, to fill other holes in the lineup but Canucks would then need to look for a top line C in the future as I dont see Petersson being a center but more of a winger. -
[Proposal] Miller for kakko or lafriener
DefCon1 replied to Paul-walker's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I dont mind Laff as a piece in a package but not a center piece. The center piece would be Schneider. But I would go for Ottoman instead of Laf to be honest. 1st, Schneider and Ottoman does it for me if we are trading Miller. If NYR doesnt want to give up Ottoman, I would ask for 1st, Schneider and Lunkvist to really build our defense with Demko and Martin as the goalie duo. Hughes-Schneider Lunkvist-OEL Rathbone-Myers Poolman, Schenn If we get Lunkvist and Schneider in a deal for Miller, that would make our D set for present and future while making the cap structure work. Getting 2 NHL ready D on ELC is really valuable. -

Schneider had 2 assists, one was a primary assist that was a pass shot. He was +1, one of only 2 defenseman in that 5-3 loss. Played 18 minutes while playing great D. He is definitely NHL ready and can be inserted into the top D pairing for Canucks right away. His salary cap is ELC, so he will be cost controlled until Myers contract is up and can ve easily re-signed. Fits the age group for our team going forward. Another prospect that Canucks can ask NYR to add to Schneider would be Ottoman depending on how high they are on Miller. Canucks have to act fast this year on Miller if they really want to trade him while the demand is high. If they can catch NYR in a desparate situation, they can really extract highly valuable prospects out of them. Another trade would probably be getting Newhook off the Avs for Miller because Kadri could price himself out this offseason and Miller would still be signed next year. -

Canucks have to get Schneider fast before NYR makes him untoucheable. He got 2 points last night and looked great defensively. Canucks definitely need that type of D and he would be someone to eventually replace Myers in 2 years. -

Trade Miller for 1st, Schneider, and Ottoman off NYR Trade Boeser for 1st and Barron, O' Connor off Avs Trade Pearson for a 3rd Trade Halak for a 2nd Trade ChasOn for 7th so we get returns of 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th plus Schneider, Ottoman, Barron and O'Connor. Use cap space to re-sign Horvat and sign a top 6 center and top 4 D future lineup: Garland-Petersson-Podkolzin Hoglander-Horvat-Ottoman O'Connor-UFA-Dickenson Motte-Lammiko-Highmore Hughes-Schneider OEL-Myers Barron-Rathbone/Poolman Schenn Demko Martin The forward group will be younger but full of potential while the D group will be a lot faster and much more offensive while still veing decent on defensive side. -

I think JR knows how valuable Miller is, so I bet his asking price will be really high. This is not some complementary player we are trading.
