[Report] Canucks won’t protect Kole Lind
DefCon1 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
so we retain on Holtby, give prospects and picks and still look for a backup goalie that will end up basically at similar cap hit as Holtby while giving up assets and no change in cap. I mean what would be the point? -

Thats stupid because we can get rid of boat anchor eriksson with that pick or 2 who has higher cap hit than Holtby. Seattle will get Holtby withot any added assets. -
How is being environmenfally friendly and using the canucks name cheap when 5 other NHL teams have done the same. I rather have the Canucks name instead of some other stupid name that would probably make people on this board whine. Majority are happy, unless you dont like the Canucks lol

the axe? the deodrant? no thanks, am glad they went with Canucks name and johhny canucks logo for continuity instead of a stupid name lol

Rather pay 4 to 5 mil for Larsson than have both Edler and Hamonic back at same cap hit. Larsson can play top minutes with Hughes and much better than Hamonic and Edler. They could also trade schmidt for another D or keep him and bring guys like Rathbone and Julovi up with the team. We need to change D personnel, cant keep signing same failures over and over again. They got rid of Tanev the heart and soul guy and a morr superior player and now they want to keep a more inferior Edler

They sweeped the Jets, even with Scheiffle in it, they lost the 1st game badly. They are up 3-2 on Vegas so the Leafs would have been beat even with Tavares. Montreal was built for playoffs.

Benning on Sportsnet 650 with Halford & Brough - June 24, 2021
DefCon1 replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
A good player might fetch even a high 1st this year. So teams like TB and NYI that have many good players exposed to Seattle will definitely try to offload the best player exposed for high picks and prospects. This is where Jim Benning will take advantage of ED, similar to how he got JT Miller. I trust Benning in these type of situations because he usually makes out like a bandit -

Some teams might want to get something great for a player they think Seattle will get for free. A player that has a high chance of being the next Marchessault or Tuch. Now if they trade the best player available to Seattle to another team for a high pick and a prospect, you will then expose a lesser player to get picked for free. For example if Canucks had to expose Pettersson and Miller, do you think they would let seattle take Pettersson for free? Hell no, not even if they have more than one great player to protect. -

Benning will probably trade the 9th unless Clarke is available. He will wait for the draft and if he likes a player that is still available at 9th, he will get him but if not, he will trade the pick. -

I rather Juolevi develop in AHL and Benning look for a top 4 or perhaps a top pairing D that can be physical. Is there anyway to take advantage of cap strapped teams like TB or NYI to get a Mayfield or a Cernak?? -

We need a physical D man that can actually defend like Mayfield or Cernak. A dman like Gudbranson only has size, cant defend so how will that improve our D? We need reliable D to partner with Hughes not just size. If they only lool for size, then its really easy to find that although they would probably be ECHL level in defense. -

So where do you find cap space to make Johnsons contract work? -

We have a stud D men in Hughes. Dumba is not as good as Hughes. If by a stud you mean a Dmen that is a stalwart both ways like a Hedman then you should either draft them which is tough to do or maybe trade for a potential stud like Seth Jones. Dumba is not really the stud that we want or need. -
[Rumour] Tkachuk may want out of Calgary
DefCon1 replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Benning ahould get both Tkatchuk and Reinhart for playoffs. Imagine having them plus Horvat, Miller and Podkolzin in top 6 -
Are you really serious? If Juolevi cant hack it on defense, they should package him and get someone that can play D. We have 100 forwards, why do we need Juolevi to play as a forward?

So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
DefCon1 replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
I dont trust WHL prospects. I rather pick from OHL but I think Eklund will be a player which we should pick if any major D man is gone before our pick is up. -
Edler and sutter res signing means Canucks will be quiet in FA and trades with lack of cap space and roster space. Might as well just call next season a write off if Benning does that. You probably think he will re-sign Roussel, Beagle and Ericksson next year too. Benning has 2 years to make playoffs, thats a fact. So he better do something or he is out sooner than 2 years.
-
Yeah the poster clearly thinks Benning is completely retarded and cant think.
-
Well am saying this is a separate deal and not due to expansion draft. They can get whoever is exposed on our roster. Am saying this deal is done after expansion draft.
-
So they dont take 3 million for 1 year Ericksson who has a 6 million cap even with our 9th pick? Then the Seattle GM would be too dumb. Lots of teams will get Ericksson for 1 year with a 2nd and it has been done before. Plus he is owed only 3 million in real money, he is definitely tradeable and Canucks are also desperate for more cap.
-
That would be really dumb to sign both again. Might as well just call next year a write off. I dont think Benning will sign the same players that missed the playoffs again when he clearly said he will be more aggressive this season after letting key players walk last off season. I mean it wont make sense to let better players walk last off season while re-signing mediocre players this season. Thats going backwards. I dont mind Edler if its for 1 million/year and 1 year contract without NMC or NTC.
-
Also Ericksson has one year left with 3 million dollar in real money owed since Canucks have paid his bonuses so a rebuilding team could use his cap hit for one year to hit cap floor while spending less. He is now a lot more tradeable than last year.
