  1. Please play Rathbone ahead of Chatfield (the Human Turnstile). Hate to be super critical of Chatfield but his showing this year wasn't remotely good. However, he is still a rookie and I hope we give him some more time this year to see if he can start to pick up on the speed of the game a bit more. Still very uncertain how Benn kept getting played ahead of Juolevi this year. Now that he's gone perhaps we can get OJ some decent minutes as well.
  2. Glad it's been cancelled. Our guys need a few more days of skating before we can even hope to compete. Rest of the year is pretty much a write off
  3. Unfortunately, based on the history I've witnessed on this forum there will be a contingent of misguided bitching and whining. I hope I'm proven wrong
  4. Plain and simple. I just want them and their family members to recover with no complications. Wasteful, arguing and discussing anything else.
  5. He hasn't regressed defensively. He isn't paired with Tanev anymore who did a great job of cleaning up mistakes and covering for him. They moved the puck much faster between each other which relieved any pressure forecheckers put on Hughes. His plus/ minus took as huge nose dive this year primarily when paired with Jordie Benn. All Benn is capable of is fishing the puck out of our net and tapping Hughes on the pads and saying "nice try". Now that he is paired with Hamonic and they are getting used to each other things have improved a bit. I've been Team Benning & Green but for the life of me I can't fathom how they didn't think Tanev's support was paramount in Hughes early success.
  6. Will we be sending them Ballard, Raymond and a 2nd rounder?
  7. I think he lived up to the hype pretty well. There was a time when he was the best in the league. A D-man's shouldn't be measured on strictly on points. He's was well beyond a "solid" defenseman and every team in the league would have lined up to have him aboard.
  8. Care to share your storied hockey background that allows you to gauge his hockey IQ? Probably best to let hockey folks make that assessment
  9. In yet another thread I will share the saga of one Todd Bertuzzi who took 5 years to begin to make the "Power Forward" impact people had expected from him. Fortunately a twit of a GM named Milbury traded him to our beloved Canucks and we reaped the benefits. He potted 18 last year. I say we got him signed for a bargain. At the moment I will agree he's got million $ skills and a 5-cent head but if the light bulb comes on like it did for Bertuzzi we'll be happy 18 is patrolling the right side.
  10. Solid signing for fair $ considering his output last year. Likely under what he would have been awarded in arbitration and avoid the necessary evils of salary arbitration. Personally still think we could see him shine. For all those saying we shouldn't have signed him for this I'm guessing they must be members of the "Mike Milbury GM club" and his book "How to Trade a blossoming Power Forward with nice hands and a 5-cent head for a bag of used pucks:The Todd Bertuzzi saga". I love Trevor but the trade was a steal, Bertuzzi, McCabe and a 3rd.. Bertuzzi took a bit longer to blossom but he certainly did.
  11. Why would the Vegas management be fired? They did plan for it. The plan was to move Schmidt and Fleury to make money for Pieterangelo because they felt they needed that elite D-man. They have arguably improved their team. Keep in mind they only had 24 hours to move enough money to stay cap compliant. Look at it another way and they just got Pieterangelo and a 3rd for Nate Schmidt
  12. What exactly do you think the trade value is for the rights to a 5-6 RFA defenseman? Markstrom's term is too high as is the $6M per. Tanev continues to be injury prone (and a warrior I think we will miss) Would you like us to be in the same cap predicament when we need to sign Elias and Quinn. People had to go. How exactly should they have prepared for a pandemic that flattened the cap? The landscape would have been a little different. More flexibility We literally just stole Nate Schmidt. Let them continue to work things and see what transpires before next season.
  13. Excellent. I hadn't seen the presser so was unaware of this. My bad. Humble apologies. At the end of the day he still didn't do it.
  14. Always nice to read posts that are thought out as opposed to the knee jerk "Chicken Little" posts on these message boards. As I've said previously I still found losing Toffoli , given the contract he received puzzling but I'm guessing there is a game plan. That game plan has a lot to do with making sure we have available dollars for EP and QH next year so reducing potential cap strain is paramount.. Do people understand there is quite a bit of doubt moving forward? The NHL revenue stream is currently devastated and may not return that quickly.
  15. We don't know this to be true. When an exceptional D-man states Boston and Vancouver as two options he will accept it would be ludicrous for Benning to not at least kick the tires and investigate. Did he make the deal? No. Why? A large contract and they likely didn't want to take back the people and contracts we offered. Or possible it never happened at all. Relax and stop believing everything you read.
  16. I'm guessing the plan is for a mass youth infusion and likely a veteran D man is a priority with any available free agent dollars. I haven't been upset with Markstrom or even Tanev moving on but this one puzzles me. The money seems like a bargain. Perhaps they've decided it's time to let Jake sink or swim in the Top 6?? Genuinely puzzled. I look forward to the entertainment of the "Fire Benning" threads and folks losing their minds.
  17. $3 Something gets you Cam Talbot. No Thanks. And despite Khudobin's playoff success this year. No Thanks. There is a reason he's bounced around. Holtby didn't have a great year but a change of scenery and goalie coach might be what the doctor ordered. 4.3 X 2 is definitely better that $6 X 6 IMO.
  18. The more you post the more I wonder if you understand this game or what it takes to build a winning team.
  19. Despite a glut of goalies on the market, a Stanley Cup winning goalie and Vezina winner for 4.3 per is a steal.
  20. Great Job by Benning. Likely a couple million a year less than Markstrom wanted, plus a few years less as well. He's only a year older and this leaves us more flexible with the short term of the contract. I hate to see Markstrom go but he has been quite prone to injury and we needed cap relief. Just like RB's in football, teams don't want huge dollars and terms for goalies.
  21. Hard to choose between two huge extremes. I'll go with great as we have certainly drafted well and have a better prospect pool & young players than I can recall. With that said there are some albatross contracts he's responsible for that haven't worked out and potentially jeopardize those prospects moving forward.
  22. My prediction at the beginning of the year was between 6yh and 10th in the West. It's looking like we may even be better. Regardless of whether we stay the course this year has been great fun. Exciting team, overcoming injuries because of better depth, talented players. JB has built a solid squad
  23. After reading all your posts and responses on here I do agree with one thing; your name. You certainly are.
  24. It's been two games albeit very poor games. Right after we won 7 straight. We are still in the thick of the race. Take a look at the standings. Teams go through ups and downs. Look at Toronto at the start of the year, Boston of late. The fact is we just had our longest travel of the year to Florida and we have had a little let down after a 7 game streak. I was at the last home game versus New York. It wasn't a good effort. A young, confident team were far too cavalier with the puck in our end. Trying to make finesse passes rather than being hard on the puck and ensuring it left the zone. Now breathe. They will figure it out.
