  1. My God am I tired of this "rebuild" and "retool" discussion. It's just semantics. They are the exact same thing. When a team rebuilds it a process over time based on team needs, current contracts and agreements with players and uncontrollable external factors of the needs, wants and activities of 30 other NHL franchises. A rebuild is the process of replacing some parts of the organization (or finding new tools-"retool") to improve and rebuild the team to be competitive in the future. It does not necessarily mean ridding your team of all its' current talent and coasting to last place finishes to get high draft picks. The Canucks have been in rebuild/retool mode for a number of years while trying to remain competitive and foster a winning attitude and have younger players' experience the leadership and work ethic of veteran players' like the Sedins, Burrows and Edler.
  2. I rarely see Proposals that make sense on the CDC. This one does. I think we have some high-level talent that will shortly be high ticket players. Improving 3-5 on D and 4-9 at Forward is the right tactic. I do think we could also benefit from Leivo having another year under his belt and Pearson and Spooner returning to form.
  3. I don't like the trade at all. Yes, Demko is ready. I don't think that means we need to throwaway a serviceable back-up and depth toughness player for another team's garbage, I don't see any time in the future where Pyatt or McKenna will be anything but Utica Comets. The additional 6th rounder isn't enough. I'm Team Benning but this trade is garbage IMO.
  4. Hansen would be a potential choice. Agreed. He has just returned from injury. He is also a key PK member. Willie D likes to keep everyone's ice-time in check.
  5. Hey, I don't agree with his deployment on the PP etc but...... Who replaces him? Who has earned those minutes? He plays a pretty responsible defensive game, has some speed, chips in occasionally. Pretty sure they would prefer he was a 4th liner but Virtanen in particular isn't ready.
  6. Not when they haven't earned it. Being young shouldn't be a blank cheque to play. I'll take a less skillful player with a hockey IQ built from experience over a "green" rookie who hasn't earned his time. I'm tired of you bitching for a youth movement. We have one of the youngest D corps in the league, if not the youngest. At forward we have 5 of current Top 9 under 25. Seems like a youthful rebuild to me.
  7. No they can't. Empty arena tells a very different story. Retool. Rebuild. Every team 'rebuilds" every year. Chicago is rebuilding. Pittsburgh is rebuilding. The Canuicks are rebuilding. Retool versus rebuild, nothing more than use of semantics to describe exactly the same strategy. You try to replace and improve every year, whether that is adding to a "core" of players or building around a youthful "hopeful core".
  8. I have no confidence Willie is going to figure it out. This MVP was signed and has shown some capabilities albeit in Pre-season and the cup of coffee Willie allowed him to have in two games. Willie is literally the first time since Rick Ley or Bill Laforge where I wanted the coaches head. He makes the odd good lineup decision but some just leave me shaking my head (sort of like he does except with out the 70's porn stache)
  9. Yes, we most certainly need him. Thank you. That is all.
  10. Well said. Most of the people that are quick to get rid of guys like Burrows have never played the game and have no understanding of the importance of veterans in the room.
  11. Evan Oberg??? Don't remember anyone else wearing 64
  12. Actually I sort of disagree. I think we are short of heart and soul on this club. This makes Burrows very necessary. The issue with Burrows is his contract and what hew can truly deliver on ice. If he was making 2.5M I would have no issue keeping him.
  13. How about we let Jake Virtanen be Jake Virtanen?
  14. This^^. Couldn't agree more and couldn't have said it better. A coaches' job should be to get the most out of his players and if it means adapting your system to fit the personnel then that is precisely what you do. You then have an open discussion with your GM about the personnel you think you need to run your preferred system. I don't disagree that the team has gotten a little stale but that is hius job to "refresh" the room. I seriously hope they can this guy.
  15. Sorry. I will be trying to start the "FIRE TORTS" chant at Roger's Arena. His system is garbage. He could not adapt to the teams' personnel and he completely misread the Luongo/ Heritage Classic situation. Has no read on his team. B-bye.
  16. Agreed. They have fired the wrong guy. Welcome to Hockey run by ownership (glorified fan). We are in for a world of hurt with this owner.
  17. The odds of making the playoffs are not good but no team will ever tank on purpose for a better draft position. I certainly wouldn't be a fan of any team that did. I just want to see them play hard and go down battling.
  18. Weise is garbage. Relax. Maybe have a cookie. You'll feel better.
  19. Torterella? Buckle your seat belts folks this ride is going to be bumpy. I hope some of our local media are shaking in their boots.
  20. Just came back from a Father's Day movie with my kids (19 and 17 . We went to "This is the End". I laughed until I cried, my sides hurt from laughing. I give it a 10/10. Kudos to the actors for so much self-disparaging humour.
  21. This is know as "premature whinification".
  22. 1. I don't think the team is falling apart. Hodgson's move was warranted. If Dale Wiese decides that due to his offensive flair in the Dutch league that he should get 1st line minutes and PP time rather than 4th line time and has his agent continually bothers the GM with it should Gillis insist AV plays him more? Of course not. If it becomes a distraction you move the player. I do agree a little on the Luongo deal. I don't necessarily like how it has happened but many feel Schneider (not me included) has won the job, however that is the coaches decision. Luongo choose to ask to be moved. Not the other way around. 2. We have always had fair weather fans. I have been here for 41 seasons and the fan base has always been the same. In most years we just wondered what high draft pick we could squander the following June. We haven't been promised cups. We have a team and management that are making that the "goal" each and every year. I as a fan don't want it any other way. A competitive team that has an expectation to compete for the Stanley Cup. Heaven forbid. Damn you Gillis for trying to win! 3. In my opinion this has more to do with our "arrogant" fan base's on-line activities and comments(some tend to be awfully cocky despite our lack of cups) and the success of the team in recent years. Do you know how many people hate the Habs and the Yankees? I will agree I am often embarassed by our fan base in sports forums with rather cocky and arrogant attitudes and comments. I don't think that is the result of Mike Gillis and his organization. Unfortunately, with the internet and social media it seems to be a "trash talk" world. I don't like it either.
