  1. Lyubushkin is something like a younger version of him. Marino similar to a younger Tanev.
  2. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to build a proper, contending team. If Petey doesn't want to stick around for that (which IMO is silly as I think we'll still be playoff competitive, more cohesive and with a better long term outlook, with the right moves, after moving Miller), then yup, you move him in a couple years too (as $&!#ty as that is). Though I'd expect we'd get a pretty good return. But again, assuming competent management, I don't see that happening. The team is bigger than any one player. They either fit in your salary structure, time lines etc, or they don't. See below: We need to get him a defensive D partner to get the most out of him and spend some of Myers cap space more efficiently. OEL is not remotely this rosters problem.
  3. OEL is a top pair D paid like a top pair D. He's not remotely "overpaid". And defensemen usually stay productive until 34-35. At worst we have 1-2 mildly inefficient years at the end where he's overpaid ~$1-$1.5m. That's a whole world of difference from Miller being overpaid $3-$4m over the last 3-5 years (depending on term).
  4. Nope, just entering his prime. They exist on a spectrum, just like sexual identity and autism. Why do you hate winning?
  5. Really, what age would that be? You're posting like a monkey throwing feces at a wall now so I'd guess you're about 7... maybe an immature 8 year old.
  6. Yes better team construction, cap allocation etc. Plug your ears all you like, it's entirely possible and probable. It's also quite probable that one of those pieces is a better player than 33+ Miller in 4 years, when we're hopefully contending/matters more.
  7. Stopped reading here One: I never said "anchor for the next four years". Two: turning 30 upon new contract is not "entering his prime"
  8. Individual player? Probably not (though the chance is there dependent on the return). Better overall team construction, better identity, better depth, better cap allocation, better prospect pool... Those things are all quite possible and those are a lot of "betters".
  9. Myers is a two way D. I want some defensive D (think Tanev, McNabb, Manson, Marino, Lyubushkin etc). I don't want someone in the same mold.
  10. And if they don't, we have far bigger problems than Miller alone would solve anyway. We'd be rebuilding either way. Especially at almost double the salary and an increasing anchor over the next 4 years.
  11. Wrong section FYI. I've been pushing for Marino, Poulin, Blomqvist and a first for a while. Probably require some sweetener and/or retention in Miller to get all that.
  12. IMO that trade looks better once we move Myers (a perfectly fine player on his own, just an ill fit with either Hughes or OEL). Replace Myers with a younger, cheaper, "defensive D" and we're better off IMO.
  13. Or defense is "ok". Probably +/- league average. And individually most of the guys are good. Hughes is great. OEL is very good. Myers is a solid 2nd pair, 2 way RHD with size, who can skate. Schenn is a solid, veteran on a bargain deal... We have some solid depth guys... All that's fine "on paper". Problems being one: structural and two: succession. For structural... The issue is that Myers, at $6m, doesn't fit with either of our top 4 left D. He's a nightmare with Hughes and he forces OEL to play defense and kills most of his potential offensive contributions. Paying him $6m to not play in your top 4/limit your ability and cap to improve that top 4, is a major issue. We NEED a better/more cohesive top 4. Not only that but he expires in two seasons (Schenn in one). Where's the succession plan to replace either?V We've got some decent "maybes" that might work out there... But nothing close to blue chip. These things NEED to get sorted out in the next couple years. The status quo of a middling, ill fitting D, with no succession plan isn't "fine as it is". I don't care what you think Rutherford said Trade one of Miller/Garland/Boeser for someone like Marino. I'd also follow that with going hard after Lyubushkin personally. We still need at least one mid-long term, right side, top 4 solution then, but that gets us younger, cheaper, better defensively etc over the next few years and opens the necessary cap space to do so/improve the roster elsewhere.
  14. I believe you can go now for your missed pick.
  15. Isn't he via list as he's busy at poolside?
  16. Luca Del Bel Belluz... Hopefully that spelling is correct
  17. Nice....hopefully all the PIT front office/scouting/development mojo is rubbing off on these guys.
  18. Just a reminder, any COL pending UFA's next year (2023) including scoring leader Huberdeau, Bennett, Pesce, Nichushkin, Martinook and McNabb could potentially be available for the right return...
  19. I think Fletcher is going to throw everything at making that team competitive as not making the playoffs likely = his dismissal.
  20. Sometimes a boxy Volvo wagon is just what you need! Don't get me wrong, something around Konecny, Frost and Jiricek (their first) or something around Faber + from the Kings would probably be more exciting and "win" the trade if it comes to fruition. But a partner for Hughes in Marino, a solid "intangibles" F with potential Burrows-esque upside and a succession plan for Demko would be a solid, prudent return. Yes, none of those guys are likely "sexy", but they all make us a better, deeper organization.
  21. I''d prefer one of the two + their 22 1st to ideally nab Jiricek. Konecny + Jiricek (maybe throw in Frost if we add some sweetener/retention) is a deal I do.
  22. Marino is a young, cost controlled top 4 D in the mold of a young Tanev. That's a solid piece IMO and barring drafting a Jiricek etc, a solid option for a partner for Hughes. Poulin is the son of a former NHL'er with good size, good motor, good shot (and volume shooter) and decent play making... Likely middle 6, but there's potential Burrows/Hansen like upside there. Kind of reminds me of a bigger Motte (which we could certainly use more of). Blomqvist is a top goalie prospect with good size, athleticism and poise. Posted a couple very solid seasons in Liiga and made the trip over to NA at the end of the season putting up solid numbers in just one game. Has excelled at basically every level he's played at. Could easily round out his game in the A/get call ups for a couple years, backup Demko for a couple, and potentially be ready to replace him should extension talks not go well/we want to get younger.
  23. How much of that was a function of the team they were on and that OEL was miserable in Arizona? Yeah, I'm pretty sure he could.
