  1. This is why I keep suggesting Blomqvist as part of the potential return from PIT. Something around Marino, Poulin and Blomqvist.
  2. No idea but helping them with their cap + the threat of just offer sheeting him... I'd sure be looking in to it. Have to clear cap first though... Patches, Petey, Podkolzin on a line...?
  3. I'd happily take on one year of patches to snag Roy from them. They can have Ferland back (Assuming we've cleared cap by moving out Myers, Miller etc)
  4. Disagree. Getting actual complementary defensive D that fit with all our puck movers, not only likely improves our goals against and PK, but also free guys like OEL up to create and push play more and get the forwards the puck more. AKA more offense. Even without a legit "top" D (though a top D would certainly be great). Adding a proper 3C would similarly do wonders with our goals against, PK and freeing Horvat up from taking almost all the D draws etc allowing him to create more as well. Beyond that, yes I think we need to add some more gritty, "heart and soul" guys throughout the lineup. They're just not likely to be Miller. We absolutely will be losing a good, individual player. But with the right moves, I think we could easily be just as good (maybe even better, and with an actual, cohesive identity) of a team.
  5. If we can add Lyubushkin as a Myers replacement, he'd be younger, cheaper, better defensively and more consistently physical while opening up OEL to play more offense.
  6. With McAvoy injury... COL is considering taking a step back next year to reload. Any of our 2023 pending UFA's (Huberdeau, Bennett, Pesce, Nichushkin, Martinook and McNabb) could be available with the RIGHT offer
  7. Agreed. We're not building for this coming season as the "finish line" anyway. The next couple years are just the warm up to the race (hopefully) starting and running for a good 5'ish years after. By then Pettersson is a 1C and I think we all agree Bo is fine at 2C until probably the last couple years there. Keeping Miller in that context makes a lot less sense. Turning 32 when the race starts and going downhill from there. Sell, get the assets.
  8. And I'd be ok with that around that sort of return. Works for both clubs.
  9. I'd love to add Roy (and Hague if possible) but this deal is meh.
  10. There's also the possibility he just has a down year and tanks his value. Never mind the constant distraction and media circus about it all year that the the team simply doesn't need. It's not impossible we head in to the season, with him still here and without an extension...I just don't see it as very likely.
  11. Marino, Poulin and 1st. I'd also try to push for Blomqvist, even if we have to add, retain etc.
  12. How is this possible? @mll assured me players, teams and their agents never, ever say one word to each other about potential contract interest, even a minute before the opening of free agency...?!!
  13. Physical, and one of the better shut down D out there (who actually skates pretty well), with a history of playing well in a complimentary/shut down top 4 role (with OEL, then Chychrun and then Reilly in Toronto... bunch of scrubs ) in both Arizona and Toronto. And he shouldn't be expensive. He's actually not dissimilar to a younger Schenn! Schenn may very well beat him out to play with OEL.. In which case we have him to pair with Rathbone! I think that's exactly what management should/will be looking for to complement all of our puck movers. And he's been closer to 17 minutes the last 3 years. Likely largely a function of the physical game and hard minutes he plays (and his lack of offense).
  14. Either of Manson or Lyubushkin would be GREAT fits for what we need. Manson is older and likely pricier. I'm a big fan of attempting signing Lyubushkin personally. Miller could be a bit of a "bargain-hail Mary" as well. Pysyk would be solid depth at near league min-$1+m range. If we can manage to trade Myers out, trade one of Miller/Boeser/Garland for Marino and sign Lyubushkin though, I'd be a happy camper. We still need to hopefully find an eventual long term, top pair partner for Hughes but that could be a solid top 4 for the next few+ years while we find/develop that guy. Hughes, Marino OEL, Lyubushkin Some mix/rotation of Dermott, Rathbone, Burroughs, Schenn and Poolman in the bottom 4.
  15. Yeah, I'm not big on Zacha either. Far prefer Sharangovich as a current NHL forward coming back. Pieces I'd be interested in would be the 2OA, Holtz, Mercer, Sharangovich and Bahl (more as sweetener). Don't hate Severson, but he wouldn't be high on my list either.
  16. Sure but again, that's not what those posters were suggesting. And it's not remotely preferable at any cost/term. And IMO what it's going to realistically cost to extend him in cap hit and term, while also considering his age, the age of the young core, that young core not being in their primes for a few more years, and management likely needing 2-3+ years to sort out the majority of our roster, cap and organizational depth issues... Doesn't make any sense to spend high cap and term on his couple remaining prime years to spin our wheels while sorting out those issues, only to be an increasing anchor as those things finally get solved. All while also limiting our ability to address those issues in the interim.
  17. Yeah, I'm with Gawd here. You can't actually run with Miller, Horvat, Pettersson as your top 3, C depth long term. As he said, you're playing them with plugs because you have 3 C's you're paying $7-$9m to. Never mind that Pettersson is going to want, and his play likely to demand, more than "3C" minutes/usage etc. Long term, one of them has to move to wing anyway. Now I'm fine with playing C's on the wing as it's good coverage for faceoffs, injuries etc but that's a seperate discussion from the one you guys are having. And I fully agree that good C depth should be what we aim for. If/when we move Miller we will need to target an ACTUAL 3C (and one that doesn't cost $7m+ like Petey). Whether that's a UFA like Paul, Tierney etc or targeting a guy like Roy out of Vegas, that should be the aim. I guess another way to say this is that IMO we need a "proper" 3C regardless of what happens with Miller. Running our current C's 1,2,3 isn't actually a viable long term solution. Personally, I take the improved RD, added prospects picks, improved cap allocation, proper 3C etc route over the signing a 30 year old player to an anchor/retirement contract, years away from actually being a contender.
  18. Might want to make a similar list for PIT under Rutherford...
  19. If we can actually bring some of these solid complimentary guys in while making the appropriate moves to clear cap, add a 3C, get faster, shore up the RD etc. I'm excited for the team next year... Even with the likely Miller move.
  20. Yeah, if he makes it to UFA and was willing to sign for +/-$1-1.5...ok I guess, but he's not filling a organizational need (even if I do like him as a player). And in that case, he likely just stays in Carolina or picks a team that isn't already full up on bottom pair D anyway. More money than that and it's the same problem with us signing Hamonic AND Poolman last year. That $5.5m could have been better spent then on two guys who fill the same roster spot. We need more Marinos, Lyubushkins, Mansons etc (or Dobsons if we're REALLY dreaming) before we need yet another $2m+ smaller, bottom pair guy. It's just poor use of cap.
  21. Hart and Farabee are two of the biggest reasons their season wasn't worst. Hart did just fine last year... The team in front of him however...
  22. 100% pure mutt I think there's some Golden retriever in there and maybe some terrier.... Rescue from Victoria Humane Society. But that's just a guess and be could be just about anything lol. Nice! Our last dog was a yellow lab cross and he was the best boy ever. Must be something in the air at Miracle Beach that encourages dog adopting! Was a little weird... That was our first (and last for a while) camping trip without a dog in years.
  23. We can always flip futures for other roster players too FWIW. Perhaps some of the assets in a Miller return are used to acquire guys like Nick Roy out of Vegas for instance?
