  1. Nice! Came home from camping at Miracle Beach today to read this news... And got a new puppy! Been a good day so far!
  2. Do you think teams like Tampa, Colorado etc planned to "just get in" and "see what happens"? It's really, REALLY hard to win a cup. It's not something you simply luck in to (though you indeed need luck). It requires massive amounts of planning, resources and smart management, including hard decisions. Yup don't simply "decide" to win a cup and then "hope" to maintain it.
  3. I never said anything about emulating them. And yes, by the time the Canucks are (hopefully) a contender, teams like Tampa, Colorado etc will be dwindling. That's also entirely missing the point.
  4. IIRC, they're about $2m over, with a 17 man roster. So about $8m over even if they sign 6 guys at $1m'ish/near league minimum. Conservatively. Roy is probably going to cost about what Pearson is making on a new deal so we'd basically be taking 1 year of Dadanov at $5m, which gets them at about half way there. Heck, maybe we can send them Ferland instead/as well, if they can get themselves under enough to utilize his LTIR.
  5. Nobody is going to do them any favours clearing the cap they need to clear.
  6. Nobody suggested a #2 D. A top 4 would have been fine. Including our very own Edler. And again, it's not that either Poolman or Hamonic are "bad" 3rd pair D or even bad value at their cap hits INDIVIDUALLY. Signing both however, was a bad use of limited cap space, that didn't actually address any of our many, clear roster issues.
  7. Typical CDC, going after one small part of a post, our of context, and ignoring the greater point. I merely suggested we could have potentially done a better job communicating interest to him among many possible options. Including the most obvious, which was to simply retain Edler. That's it. And his stat line is largely a function of his poor team. Never mind that Larsson's availability or lack thereof has diddly to do with it being stupid to sign both Hamonic and Poolman.
  8. They need to clear cap. Like BADLY. I'm suggesting something like, we take on Dadanov at their expense of sending us Roy. We send a lesser, cheaper warm body back in exchange. Say Pearson or Dickinson. They clear cap, we gain assets.
  9. Gotta start with a B you'd think. Bustaroo Cedar just doesn't have the same ring to it.
  10. I'd prefer Forsberg, if we go that route. Malkin would certainly be less term commitment though. Either would be pretty solid "add assets while not taking a step back" moves though. Couple that with moving Myers out and using our additional cap space to acquire a guy like Roy from Vegas to be 3C and we may even take a step forward...
  11. Nobody claimed "they should have just signed Larsson". And you're both naive if you think teams don't unofficially "indicate interest" in players through back channels, ahead of UFA (or expansion draft) periods. I thought we already covered this in the Miller thread mll?
  12. Strangely, I've been sleeping just fine with not knowing any of this
  13. I never "claimed" you said anything. I outright asked you if you thought a "slight improvement" by following your "re-up Miller and tweak" plan is good enough to considered in the same postal code as other contenders.
  14. Don't dodge. What do you think the team's aim should be? To be an "ok" team? Like what do think it is "we" have been arguing about for months here? Is a moderately better, 95% the same but more expensive roster going to put us in the conversation with the likes of Tampa, Colorado, Carolina, Florida etc...? Does it even get us in the rung down conversation, with the likes of Toronto, Calgary, Dallas, Nashville, St. Louis etc? There's a reason some of us only see this as a one answer problem.
  15. He's good, 2nd pair D but an ill fit with either Hughes or OEL. If he can't play in your top 4 with those guys, $6m is a lot to be paying your 3rd pair D and takes away from your ability to actually find (pay) top 4 who DO fit. He's also expiring in two years and we need a succession plan there, sooner than later. Thankfully, what both those guys need is a good defensive D (who don't cost as much). We could trade a Miller/Boeser/Garland for a guy like Marino, sign a guy like Lyubushkin and actually have a better, younger, more cohesive D core and hardly be spending more cap on those two guys, than we do on the ill fitting Myers alone.
  16. Plays a lot like a young Tanev. While that's not a terribly "exciting" player, we've already seen how good that can look beside Hughes. PIT is rumoured to be shopping him, largely so they can afford to extend Letang and move Marino for some potentially needed F depth..
  17. When you look at the two teams in the finals...can you honestly tell me that a "slight improvement" is going to cut it?
  18. And then again with Eichel. It's naive to think good teams won't make room for him, if they value him (which they should and likely do).
  19. It's just an extra pick in the round. It will be a 33rd pick in that round, instead of there being the "normal" 32.
  20. Myers would have actual value to a good number of teams. There's no reason we'd need to try to "dump" him to ARZ.
