Nope, based on your post,I don't think you do.

And fair enough that top 4, RHD aren't exactly "easy" to just sign/acquire. But don't go and commit (small but not insignificant) cap space, for term, to solve a problem you don't have! It's just a roadblock to fixing the needs you DO have, when/if the opportunity arises. Thankfully new management somewhat dealt with that by moving Hamonic. And I'm fine with (healthy) Poolman/Schenn as our tandem 3RD in the event we can fix the rest of of our right side (something like Miller for Marino, move out Myers, sign Lyubushkin). But it's just another example of Benning acquiring decent of pieces on their own, that just don't fit in to a bigger "cohesive" picture.
-
I really don't think you're grasping my point here. Yes again Poolman on his own is fine as a 3rd pair guy. I said as much above. But that wasn't a problem we needed solving. We didn't need more 3rd pair depth. We still don't need more 3rd pair depth. This signing did nothing to address the problems with the right side D (a lack of top 4 talent and and the one "top 4" talent we have there, being an ill fit with the two good top 4 guys we have on the left). Poolman was an "ok" solution to a problem we didn't/don't have.
-
Of course you would, so would I. Problem being it's unlikely they give up Dobson for Miller.
-
They'd want Miller, we'd want Dobson. They wouldn't want to give up Dobson. They don't really have other pieces we'd want. There's "potentially" a move there if they're desperate. But otherwise, it's unlikely to happen.

[Proposal] Charlie McAvoy to Vancouver
aGENT replied to Maddogy's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
As much as I'd LOVE McAvoy, the only chance they're moving him, is if they're rebuilding and they'd be getting a top player, top prospect and 1st at a minimum. The only way we could do this would be to move Miller for some of those pieces and use them + to acquire McAvoy. And again, only if they were rebuilding in the first place. -

While I'd love one of Paul/Tierney/Sturm etc, I like targeting Nic Roy out of Vegas for our 3C personally. -
How far are we from being a playoff contender?

Does one deep, lucky run every 12 years sounds like something we should "plan" for? -

Why? D tend to play well in to their mid 30's. Which is when his contract runs to. He's a first pair capable D, making low end, first pair money At worst (barring unforeseen injury issues) he's got one (maybe two) mildly cap-inefficient year or so, at the end there where he's overpaid +/-$1m. And with inflation perhaps not even that. It could be what good 2nd pair D are making by then. Again OEL should be right up there with Demko on the list of things fans should not worry about. There are SO many better, more pressing things to worry about than trying to wish away one of our only two, top pair capable D. -
Guys like Burroughs and Schenn signed as cheap depth = good. We didn't need another +/-$2.5m D that did nothing to fix the ill constructed, starting right side. Again nothing wrong with Poolman individually but he did nothing to address the poor construction and lack of top 4 capable D there. He didn't help "fix" anything. An extra layer of drywall covering up the poorly constructed wall behind it.
-
Poolman's making about what he should be. Signing him wasn't necessarily a problem in isolation. It's that we already had Hamonic and Schenn on the roster (as well as an ill-fitting Myers). Signing Poolman did nothing to actually solve any "needs" on this defense core. It was just more (unneeded) depth thrown at the (poorly constructed) wall. The individual player, and his contract, in isolation, aren't the problems. And no $2.5 doesn't buy you "special"

OEL is right up there with Hughes as our best D. He's not a problem that needs fixing. -
So many people with Clarke-goggles on. I'd happily take (a likely bigger) package with either Grans or Faber. Faber arguably even fits our needs best of the three.

[Discussion] Acquiring Nicolas Roy for 3C
aGENT replied to aGENT's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sure... But it's not like AM was just scraping along. A lead scorer on his team, leader and IIRC, likely captain this coming season. I also don't think you're giving the college route enough credit. Guys frequently come out of there at least as "fully baked" as the A. -
Well, like I said the color scheme looks great, particularly in black (though IMO the blue and green is more "Vancouver") so I get why people/players like the jerseys (beyond just the feels). And also like I said, the logo solidly conveys motion, so it gets props for that as well. Beyond that though, it's just not a very good logo. Though it probably is our second best! Understandably. The orca is a terrible logo and the V wasn't even a logo. It was a (poor) jersey design without a logo
-
The best, timeless, iconic logos ARE (mostly) "boring" (more accurately, simple, clean, direct, distilled symbols of a brand). The stick in rink is certainly not the best of those classic hockey team logos, but it is OUR most simple, clean, iconic "best" logo.

[Discussion] Acquiring Nicolas Roy for 3C

Think I covered that pretty well. We also won't be the only team bidding... And we have a sense of McDonagh playing against men in college where he's shown more than Klimovich has. -

I'd love Farabee instead, but I doubt he'd be available. And try thinking of it this way, maybe acquiring Konecny, facilitates a Boeser trade -

Heck, Faber might actually be a better fit for us, if less "exciting". And being less exciting might actually make him more attainable. By no means should anybody be "Clarke or bust". Like you said, LA could EASILY make numerous packages that have Clarke nowhere near them, that I'd be PERFECTLY fine with. -
I don't know about iconic. Nostalgic yes, largely on the back of that 94 run, it's got all sorts of "feels" propping it up. That and the (black jersey anyway) colour scheme is great. Objectively it's just not a good logo though. Beyond it's solid ability to convey motion it's overly complicated and fussy. Bit of a mess graphically honestly I'd love to see a cleaner, modernized version of it though. Perhaps even using our current colours (though maybe with a darker/off black blue).

[Rumour] Devils open to trading 2022 1st-round pick
aGENT replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If we could move up AND grab an early 2nd, I'd be game to move the 15th (though I'd certainly prefer to keep it). But Miller +15 for Philly's 1st, 2nd, Konecny and Frost... Yeah, I'd probably do that. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
aGENT replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I mean I very much agree with the "technically anyone is tradeable" line of thinking. The offer just needs to be big enough to make you unable to refuse. That said, there's almost zero chance any team actually offers us what it would be worth. And it's not remotely something we should be "looking for". On our roster, the list of players least likely to be traded starts with Demko, Hughes and Pettersson. The chances of us moving any of those three is so small it's barely worth even discussing. -
I'd love for everyone's favourite man-crush to retire a Canuck. Make this happen.

As for the OP, IMO we're 2-3 years away from contending depending on how quickly/well new management can unravel our issues and build out organizational depth/development to cycle in useable support/role players. I think the elite offensive F can be one of the final pieces. We can see if we can draft or develop one in the next couple years. Heck maybe even a Karlsson/McDonagh/Klimovich etc even surprise and turns in to that guy. If not, wingers are comparatively easy/cheaper to find/sign later. 3C ABSOLUTELY! Beyond RD, that's our biggest need by far IMO. Not only does that guy likely help out with things like PK and secondary offense, but he also likely frees up Horvat from taking so many draws AND to likely tilt his play more offensively. I'm hoping we target and acquire Nicolas Roy out of Vegas for that very spot (made a thread in proposals to discuss exactly that, in fact). As for RHD, IMO we need more than just one. Even if we find one guy, Schenn is expiring next season (and is better as a 3rd pair/spare guy if we're being honest) and Myers the year after that. We NEED a succession plan there. BADLY. Hopefully we can trade one of Miller/Garland/Boeser for a guy like Marino and sign a guy like Lyubushkin this summer (while also moving out Myers). Then we need to follow that up and make a better effort drafting and/or finding unsigned college/Euro guys and developing them as well. And yes, totally agree we need more speed, size, grit and guys who can PK in our bottom 6/9 that don't break the bank. Hopefully given Pittsburgh's track record with finding/developing those guys, management has brought some of that ability here. Between that and our expanded analytics department, I hope to see more diamonds in the rough unearthed in those roles.
