  1. Bingo. Has to be one of the things on the top of our to do list this summer. Solid, 3rd line, 2 way (preferably right handed) C. Not only does that help out that PK you mentioned (as well as things like helping close down tight games etc) but it also takes some of that work off Bo's shoulders and likely increases his offensive production (and durability... Not that that's overly an issue). Good size, 2 way ability, solid on draws, decent if not overwhelming offensive ability, near NHL ready. BPA is a bit of a mixed bag, this draft especially, but he's definitely in that range. He should be able to be Hank-sized +/- in his prime. And he seemed to be able to play 1C at a "reasonable" level.
  2. I'm not even convinced of that personally. I love Demko, and completely agree that he's likely a big part of our ability to be competitive over his current contract. But 5 years is also a good amount of time to find and develop a replacement, if he indeed prices himself off the roster at the end of his contract. ESPECIALLY with Clark, the goalie whisperer, under contract and helping us both find, and develop guys. It's also not unreasonable to assume we can afford to extend him and still be competitive. Tampa isn't exactly paying peanuts for their goalie, and seem to be doing just fine competing, thanks. Focus on Hughes' and Petey's primes, build the organizational depth around that, including contingency plans for (eventually/potentially) replacing Demko.
  3. What if all we get back for Miller is picks and we turn around and use some of those picks to acquire the right D and/or 3C we need? Stop Alf, you're a confused old alien, clearly drunk on too much Sour Puss.
  4. Not really. I've always received the message the same. You're tying yourself in knots over semantics. Team circumstance. From the start of Rutherford's time, the message has always been to keep the team competitive, keep building. Nothing has really changed beyond a clearer view of what he has and, doesn't have in the organization.
  5. Says he plays like #1D. Complains about paying him like first pair D.
  6. Do you play 1D chess? Nah, likely too big of a challenge.
  7. Clearly the advanced in age, Hall of Fame manager with plenty of money and the mile long, resume is merely a puppet for Frank, the evil master mind. He should just grow a long mustache to maniacally twirl ,to make it easier for us idiots to spot it Alf.
  8. We don't have info on specifics but we have plenty of info on the general game plan. Despite your constant fears of moving Miller = rebuild, that's clearly not what's going to happen, if you actually listen to Rutherford and co. Regardless of what they do specifically, management clearly, fully intends to make moves to remain competitive next season and continue to build and improve the team over the next 2+ years. It will be fun to see what those moves actually end up being, but that's clearly the plan. There's very little mystery IMO.
  9. You sure like to get wrong things in your head and repeat then ad nauseum don't you? Woo hasn't been converted to wing. Rutherford never said step back for two years, he said he hopes to make the team a contender in 2+ years. The plan was never to "tank" for those two years. He was always planning on keeping the team competitive in that time frame.
  10. Trade for Nick Roy or sign one of Paul/Tierney/Sturm this summer. Draft Kasper at 15 to come in tandem 3C/W in a couple years and eventually swap 2/3C slots with Bo in 5'ish years...?
  11. It isn't up to us. I don't think we need to sweeten Myers. Will the return be huge? No. Probably something like s middle/bottom 6 prospect and a late 2nd or something. But Myers is easily moveable IMO. Myers problem (on our roster) isn't ability, it's fit. Big, RHD who can skate, chip in second pair offense and only has 2x$6m term left. You're not going to do better than that in free agency. Teams with a shut down 2nd pair guy and a hole there, will trade for that. Karlsson I'd imagine will be in Abbotsford most of next season regardless of what happens with Hoglander.
  12. Yeah, I don't get the urge to sell low on him and move him out by a lot of folks. Cheap, cost controlled, incredibly hard working player that we've already seen has upside, and had a common sophomore slump. Move him!!
  13. I feel like they might be just like Pittsburgh, keep throwing mud at that wall, while you have a generational player on your roster and you can make that sweet playoff money. And it's hard to argue. Even at their advanced ages, both guys are still top players in the league. Drive it until the wheels fall off, rebuild when they do
  14. And we largely accomplished it (despite some miscues along the way). We have a new, young core in place, do we not? Now we need to make smart moves by selling valuable vets for other pieces (futures included), tweaking the ill fitting parts of the roster and flesh out the roster with depth and role players while building a better team, organizational depth etc
  15. I think you're making too much of the "small step back"/"don't take a step back" comments. They really mean basically the same thing. If (as we're likely to do IMO) we move Miller,, it inherently means taking some level of "step back". At least at in our top 6 F group. You simply don't replace that level of player on your roster no matter what you do. But that doesn't mean that you can't still make other moves that improve your overall roster, elsewhere. Like say trading for Marino, moving out Myers and signing Lyubushkin, targeting guys like Nick Roy (3C) and Hague (physical LD) out of Vegas and/or signing guys like Paul/Tierney/Sturm, bringing in some more size/grit, speed and PK'ers, maybe Kuzmenko to replace some of Miller's lost offense...etc.etc. There's zero reason that with the right corresponding moves we can't be just as/near as competitive next season, even with the "step back" of moving Miller out. That has really always been the plan. Make the required changes, while continuing to push forward and build a long term, contending, more cohesive team. I mean there '22 1st, '22 WPG 2nd, unprotected '23 1st, Iorio and Protas isn't an awful offer. I'd expect we could do better but that would give a lot of ammo for potentially acquiring guys like Roy/Hague.
  16. Meh. The market's going to pressure what it does, anyway. Don't see current management pandering to any of it regardless of Kuzmenko or any other moves.
  17. And like I said, I don't consider him a "bust". Should have been picked about 20thOA +/-, not 10th. He wasn't worth a top 10 or even 15 pick in that draft.
  18. Yes. So something like exactly what I laid out there. The "Hamonic maneuver" but with bigger pieces. Exchanging older, expensive pieces for younger, cheaper (and in the case of Myers) better fitting pieces.
  19. So like I said, you trade for a guy like Marino and sign a guy like Lyubishkin. Cap saved, younger, faster, more cohesive D pairings with players that actually complement each other instead of the old, expensive, ill-fitting mish mash we have now. Myers is easily moveable IMO. His problem here is fit, not ability. Big RHD D who can skate and put up complimentary offense with only 2 years of term left. You're not going to get a better D on a better/shorter contract than that. The trade return might not be overwhelming but the cap savings and ability to put together a more cohesive D core would be well worth it. I still don't think you're grasping the concept of having the cap to get a guy like the "Toews for a couple 2nds" trade. Yeah, most of that cap gets eaten up by the player you acquire...but you need the cap in the first place to acquire them and you whitlle away at making space overall. It's not about just hoarding and not doing anything with Miller's $5m of cap space. It's about getting younger, cheaper, faster, more depth etc. And nobody said the moving Miller is going to be a step back. You don't/can't just "replace" a guy like that. You plan that the young core continues to progress, that maybe you sign a "Kuzmenko" to help replace some of the lost offense, that building a more cohesive D core means better puck transition forward and less goals against, etc, etc. All while getting younger/cheaper/faster to give your club the best long term outlook you can.
  20. Like I said, he was a pretty safe bet to be an NHL'er, which is always good to get out of the draft. I've never called him a bust. Just middling, slow and bad at defending Great shot though! Safe bet but low-middle ceiling is late first territory IMO, particularly with FAR better options on the table. Could we have done worse? Sure. We could also have done better (as could the Oilers). I still wouldn't have taken him at 10 though when there were better players available, with better skill sets and better skating. Dobson EASILY. Like not even close. Also was high on Farabee, K'andre Miller and Smith (though to a somewhat lesser extent on Smith).
  21. That's debatable. He's also only 23 with room to get there (if you don't think he's there already). Never mind that we don't really need him to play top 4 given we already have Hughes and OEL on the left. Exactly. $2m(or more) saved. Now you're getting it. And all while also likely being a better fit given Myers is an ill fit with Hughes and OEL (both of whom would likely do better with cheaper, more defense-first oriented partners anyway). Lyubushkin as UFA is another option. I also think we likely end up moving out one of Miller/Garland/Boeser for a RHD at some point here. Besides, you're still missing the gist of the entire conversation. You clear the cap in Miller/Myers first. Then you have cap space to take advantage of teams who can't afford to extend their players. Ie: exactly how Colorado got Toews (or we got Miller in the first place).
  22. Well, a guy like Hague would "replace" one of those guys. For cheaper, while also getting younger. Pretty much exactly what we're going to be aiming to do and exactly what people are talking about here. So no, "any cap cleared" won't be used to replace them. "Some" cap, yes.
  23. Move out Miller and Myers and *poof* cap space to pick up guys like say Hague.
