[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Moving Miller does not equate to a rebuild. -

The one you pulled out of your posterior. -

Simply that you're imagined "correlation" doesn't prove anything. Maybe the correlation is being a top 10 pick? Maybe it's being a PPG player by the age of 22? There's simply zero evidence that being a top 10 scorer at 29 has anything to do with the price of tea in China. And yes, his production is bound to "reduce". That you're evidently ok paying him $9m for what likely, at BEST, is a 50'ish point player, is where we'll have to agree to disagree. That's simply a garbage idea IMO. Particularly given where the team is (ie: not yet a contender according to it's own management). -

Because even that, is optimistic and again, based on no actual correlation beyond what you've imagined. That has literally been the "goal post" since day one. It has not remotely moved. Nobody is concerned that Miller can likely be a +/- 1ppg player the next couple years, one year in to that new contract. It's the years after that, that are increasingly concerning, and eventually alarming. It's literally always been about what that contract looks like in 4+ years when Hughes and Pettersson are at their peak. Those goal posts are cemented tethered, and sat on by a couple elephants. Again, you let us know when Miller is open to signing that 2-4 year for $9'ish mil contract that would remove those concerns. Nobody expects that. Precisely why some of us don't want to sign the contract he can and will get. Particularly given where the Canucks are at as an organization. -

Hall of Fame players that are largely 30-31. Totally the same bruh. The argument has never been about whether Miller can likely continue to play at a high level the next couple years (though this season is likely his peak/"career"/outlier). It's the 4-6 after that, people are worried about. Like why/how is this remotely confusing? And we've got posters coming in here all "gotcha!"... Just sad -

Yes, and regardless of your picked out of thin air, with no demonstrated correlation to age related decline example... the rest of us still take issue with paying 36 year old Miller around $9m to put up 50'ish points, right in the meat of the young core's prime. He'd be getting paid roughly double his actual value. That's bad math for actually trying to put a contending team out there at that point. None of us have a problem paying 30-32 year old Miller +/-$9m. When he's ready to sign that 2 year deal, you guys be sure to let us know -

Jiricek = golden goose? -

So.... like Konecny and Jiricek? -

Ideally, sure. I'm not sure Jiricek wouldn't be near-ready anyway though FWIW. Maybe not for 1st pair...but start out on third and work his way to 2nd pair...maybe... -

I think I'd want a 2nd back at least in that scenario...Otherwise, still fine with it -
Our President and GM seem to disagree.

Really, I think any/all of the following will at least kick tires on MIller: BOS, CAL, CAR, COL, LAK, NAS, NJD, NYI, NYR, PHI, PIT, TBL, TOR, VGK How many present serious, worthwhile offers? Who knows?

(Rumour/ Report) Friedman- Brett Burns on the move?
aGENT replied to SilentSam's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That's funny! Wouldn't be horrible... Does get us a RD to play with Hughes (for a couple years anyway). And would nix OEL's long term issues (though IMO that's massively overblown around here). HIGHLY doubt OEL would waive though -

Yeah Konecny is the most likely. Still, Konecny plus Jiricek... I'm good with that. -

The likelihood of them moving him is probably low. Probably similar to Farabee. They likely just won't have the appetite. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask and see how desperate they are and see if a bidding war causes someone to go all in... But realistically you're probably looking more like Konecny or Sanheim and the 5th. Maybe your can squeeze a 3rd piece for taking the lesser player but that's more realistic. Still, Konecny, Jiricek and perhaps a small third piece would be a very decent return. If we did manage Provorov, I'd guess we'd have to shift Hughes to the right. -

Potentially? Depends on how desperate they are -

I'm game. Any of Konecny, Farabee (unlikely), Provorov, or Sanheim and 5th OA (Jiricek)...yes please. -

They would have likely beat Nashville promptly even if the Preds were healthy. Not healthy.... Yikes. For the Avs sake, I hope they don't fall in to a complacency trap, especially with all the extra time off they're about to have. -
I was just posting off the other poster's idea and that morphed in to a discussion about how offer sheets, or even the threat of them, can sometimes be used as trade negotiation catalyst (even for a different player than the one you're threatening to offer sheet). And again, in this theoretical scenario, the Islanders would theoretically need to respond to the offer sheet or even threat of one regardless. It has literally nothing to do with what they'd "like" or "feel" about their roster, or Dobson.

Was just coming to post along those lines -
I'm not buying the spin on this. It's been widely reported management was gauging the value of literally everyone on the roster. Not sure why OEL would be any different. Also wouldn't be surprised to see if they could find any takers for a RD in exchange. But I don't think that qualifies as "trying to find a market". More like trying to find a solution.

Short sighted and ignorant posts all have one fatal flaw. Not realizing that not all teams aren't in the same position.
